Jean Duffield of Westhampton died on February 27 in Hollister, California. She was 97.

Ms. Duffield was born on November 20, 1916, to Florence Culver Terrell and Archibald Terrell. She graduated from Westhampton Beach High School at the age of 16. On September 16, 1935, she married George G. Duffield. Survivors said she was a dedicated mother and grandmother, whom her grandchildren called “Nana.” She loved children, they said—not just her own but the neighborhood children as well. Everyone was welcome in her home.

After Ms. Duffield’s children were out on their own, she went back to work as a hall monitor at Westhampton Beach High School. She loved to walk several miles and exercised every day until it became difficult at the age of 90. She was a dedicated member of the Westhampton Presbyterian Church, where she went every Sunday and volunteered for everything she could. She loved to play cards with her family and especially her weekly games of bridge.

Ms. Duffield was predeceased by her husband, George; and her daughter Jean. She is survived by a son, Terry and wife Mary of California; and a daughter, Barbara Rempe and husband Lenny of Westhampton; and seven grandchildren, Lenny Rempe, Kevin Rempe and wife Laura, Kim Marques and husband David, Jessica Stark and husband John, Chris Rempe, Tracy Kemlo and husband Colin, and Julie Sand. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Adam, Sarah, Rachel, Mason, Brianna and Cory.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at the Westhampton Presbyterian Church on Quiogue.

Memorial donations may be made to the Westhampton Presbyterian Church, 90 Meeting House Road, Quiogue, NY 11978 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
