UPDATE: Remsenburg Teenager Charged With Vandalizing Westhampton Beach High School

Apr 11, 2018 1:01 PM

Authorities arrested a 17-year-old Westhampton Beach High School senior on Tuesday afternoon, four days after they said he broke a window and spray-painted anti-Semitic and vulgar graffiti on both the school and its grounds.

Christian Hinck, who lives in Remsenburg, was arrested near the Lilac Avenue school at around 3 p.m. by Suffolk County Police following a joint investigation involving its Hate Crimes Unit and the Westhampton Beach Village Police.

A spokeswoman for the Suffolk County Police, who declined to provide her name, said detectives believe another person took part in the vandalism and are still investigating the incident, which was reported on Friday morning and labeled as a hate crime.

The teenager was charged with one count each of first-degree aggravated harassment and third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, and one count of making graffiti, a misdemeanor. Police said he also broke a window near the school’s main entrance.

The vandalism was discovered by school workers on Friday morning. The Suffolk County Police spokeswoman said the damage was done sometime between 1:50 and 2 a.m. that day.

Some of the graffiti targeted High School Assistant Principal Bryan Bookamer. Graffiti on the sidewalk near the high school’s main entrance included swastikas, “Hitler youth,” and vulgar words and drawings, according to authorities.

“This hateful act is not representative of our school or community and will not be tolerated,” Westhampton Beach Schools Superintendent Michael Radday said in an email on Friday, noting that the graffiti was discovered by security staff. He did not immediately respond to requests for further comment on Wednesday.

Those with information are asked to contact the Suffolk County Police at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Ridiculous reply. Teens do very stupid things. I don't know this kid nor do I have any need or desire to condemn him. His actions were stupid, heartless and absolutely wrong. He should be appropriately punished. More importantly, he should be given a chance to work out his issues and hopefully become a positive member of society. That is my hope for him. If we all were judged by the worst thing we did in our teens, most of us wouldn't be too happy.

No need to apologize BF, I would not expect it from someone feeble minded.

Can you post a quote of his "apology"? No, you can't. Meanwhile, while you're busy slandering a veteran, leftists like you on campuses around the country call for Israel's destruction, just like Al Queda and ISIS.

Or perhaps it's the fact that he's served in the armed forces that lies behind your hatred towards him. We know how much left hates our military and celebrated their casualties.

The problem isn't that racism exists, that's nothing new. It's that when people talk about why they think racism exists, they get shouted down for being biased and hysterical.

Maybe this would have happened regardless of who was elected in 2016 but many people of color, some of them your neighbors, are telling you that Trump contributes to a hostile environment towards them.

Maybe hold back on the excuses for a second and try to listen.

Perhaps they should teach about the 100 million+ slaughtered and starved by leftists like Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot. The Nazis were bad, but the left, was far, far worse. There is little difference between the Marxism espoused by today's left and the ideology of three 'progressive' heroes listed above. Today's Antifa movement can trace their heritage all the way back to the 1930's.

In today's society with social media, it's almost impossible to get away with something like this. I knew he would get caught. Teenage mischief like that probably spread like wildfire through social media with the students at Westhampton Beach HS. I'd bet money on it that that's how he got caught. But let's not bash the police for not solving a hit and run. Not as cut and dry. The perpetrator left the scene. No rumor mill or social media speculations. The guy is in the wind. Not easy to solve....

I guess I'm torn...if he's just a stupid kid doing stupid kid things, then this type of public shaming by SCPD seems over-the-top.

At the same time, if the vandalism is an accurate reflection of his beliefs, I think he is close enough to adulthood to bear the full burden of his actions, especially as a deterrent to future Nazi-graffitos or sympathizers.
