It was an all-Westhampton Beach singles final at the Division IV Individual Tournament at William Floyd High School on Monday.

Danny Tocco, the second seed in the singles bracket, faced off against teammate Josh Kaplan, the fifth seed, in the division championship match. Tocco won, 7-6, 6-3, but both players will advance to the Suffolk County Individual Tournament, which begins this Friday, May 11, back at William Floyd.

Kaplan had the upset of the tournament, defeating top-seed and reigning division champion Michael Koscinski of Center Moriches, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, in the semifinals. Tocco defeated Bridgehampton’s Johnny DeGroot, 6-3, 6-2, in his semifinal match to advance.

“Another amazing final,” Westhampton Beach head coach John Czartosieski said. “So proud of both boys, Josh for pulling the big upset over the number one seed, and Danny for defeating his formidable teammate and friend. On to counties!”

Brennan Tomlinson and Danny Caputo just missed out on advancing to counties in the doubles bracket for the Canes. A win over East Hampton’s Miles Clark and Matthew McGovern in the quarterfinals would have secured a spot but they suffered a loss.

The county tournament starts off with the singles draw only this Friday, May 11, back at William Floyd at noon. The next rounds of the singles draw along with the doubles will play on Saturday at 9 a.m. The finals will be Monday, May 14, at noon.

Hampton Bays

Patricio Pulla and Jeremy Carcamo represented the Baymen at the division tournament. Pulla had a hard-fought first set with Mattituck’s Tucker Johansson, but eventually succumbed in a tiebreaker, 7-6, and then lost the second set 6-1. Carcamo lost his first-round match, 6-2, 6-0, to East Hampton’s Jaedon Glasstein.
