Best Market is rolling out a new delivery service for its East End locations, including the Westhampton Beach and Riverhead storefronts.

The service, which will be available year round, is a collaborative effort between the family-owned, Bethpage-based supermarket chain and Instacart, a delivery service used by shoppers and retailers nationwide.

Best Market customers can place grocery orders online, or through a mobile app, and an independent contractor hired by Instacart will go to the nearest store, buy the requested items using an Instacart credit card, and deliver them to the customer.

Unlike other grocery delivery services, Instacart—which has partnerships with chain stores like Sam’s Club, Costco Wholesale, BJ’s and Whole Foods—deploys locals to act as personal shoppers and collect and purchase a customer’s groceries and deliver them using their own cars, cutting out the need for delivery trucks.

The delivery company, which launched in San Francisco in 2012, also works to make their service more personal and convenient by allowing customers the ability to message, email or call the Instacart shopper handling their order to make special requests.

Since launching about a month ago, more than 100 orders have been placed in the Westhampton Beach area, with roughly 35 orders coming in each day on busy weekends, Best Market Vice President Or Raitses said. He added that the delivery service is available through the Westhampton Beach store for people who live west of the Shinnecock Canal.

According to a press release, the goal of the program—which has already been available for the past year at locations west of William Floyd—is to allow people in the Hamptons the ability to order their favorite products with the click of a computer mouse and schedule a delivery, in as little as one hour, from the comfort of their home.

“It’s a very popular service, and we’re so glad to be able to offer it around Westhampton Beach,” said Mr. Raitses, who noted that the vast majority of orders are delivered within two hours from the time they are first placed.

All products offered in stores—with the exception of alcohol—are available for purchase through the delivery service.

As stated in the release, product prices will be the same as they are in stores, and Instacart delivery prices start at $5.99 for orders more than $35, with a customer’s first order delivered for free. An annual membership, dubbed Instacart Express, is also available, and offers unlimited deliveries for $149 a year.
