Police Say Investigation Led To Arrest Of Westhampton Beach Assistant Fire Chief

Dec 5, 2018 11:13 AM

Southampton Town Police revealed last week that Westhampton Beach Fire Department Assistant Chief Kevin Raynor, who was charged with felony heroin possession after a traffic stop in a department vehicle on November 24, was arrested as a result of an investigation that had been ongoing for weeks.

“We started an investigation, which included surveillance, and, after a short period of time (weeks), he was stopped on the traffic violation and found to be in possession of the 175 bags,” Detective Lieutenant James Kiernan said in an email. “The investigation at that point also revealed that he was actively engaged in dealing heroin.”

Det. Lt. Kiernan said that Town Police suspected, through its partnerships with community programs, that Mr. Raynor was using and possibly dealing heroin prior to being pulled over on November 24 at about 6 p.m. He declined to provide more information in order to protect the ongoing investigation.

Town Police pulled over Mr. Raynor driving a fire department-issued vehicle for a traffic violation on Carols Way in Hampton Bays. He was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court on November 26 and released after posting $5,000 bail. He is due back in court on January 16.

Mr. Raynor’s attorney, Robert Macedonio, said he was unaware of the investigation and was told only that Mr. Raynor was pulled over for a traffic stop.
