Independence Party endorses Bishop

Jul 20, 2010 4:20 PM

Suffolk County’s Independence Party has endorsed U.S. Representative Tim Bishop in his reelection bid, officials announced on Monday.

As a result, Mr. Bishop, a Democrat who hails from Southampton, will also appear on the Independence Party line on Election Day in November. In a press release issued on Monday, Mr. Bishop’s campaign said that the congressman received 12,919 votes on the Independence Party line during his last run for reelection in 2008.

Mr. Bishop is seeking his fifth term in Congress. Challengers lining up for the Republican endorsement include Chris Cox of Westhampton Beach, George Demos of Brookhaven and Randy Altschuler of St. James. They will likely face off in a primary in September. In April, Mr. Altschuler received the endorsement of the Suffolk County Conservative Party, the fourth biggest party in the 1st Congressional District.

On Friday, July 16, the Independence Party screened Mr. Bishop and the three potential Republican candidates before settling on the incumbent, the press release states.

“I’ve developed a very strong relationship with Tim Bishop and I am proud to call him my representative,” Suffolk County Independence Party Chairman Frank MacKay is quoted as saying in the release.

With a little more than 20,000 registered voters, the Independence Party represents the third biggest block of voters in the 1st Congressional District, which encompasses the five East End towns and a large portion Brookhaven Town, according to New York State Board of Elections figures. The Republican Party has the most, with almost 170,000 registered voters, and the Democratic Party is in second with just under 144,000 registered voters.

These guys have 20,000 votes. That's enough to do it. No wonder everyone's sucking up to them.

Yep, that should do it, no need for you to even vote clam pie. In fact, Bishop has it locked up, everyone stay home, its a given.
