Erosion, Not Snowfall, Is Blizzard's Main Impact In East Hampton

From the looks of it the house moving company would have had little ground with which to work. That whole bank appears to be unstable." Dec 28, 10 4:29 PM

Processing an accident report is SOP as is responding to any of the above examples. I don't think guarding someones private possessions is a normal police service and shouldn't be put on the shoulders of the taxpayer. If they can afford a home on the water they can afford a private security firm to make sure no one goes near the place." Dec 28, 10 4:37 PM

I read enough to know that not everything is black and white.

Since "stationed in the area" is quite vague how can you tell anyone with certainty what it is and what it isn't? " Dec 29, 10 6:28 AM

The property they live on doesn't appear to be big enough to move the house very far inland." Dec 29, 10 6:36 AM

In reading over your past comments one might wonder why you don't take your own advice. " Dec 29, 10 12:36 PM

LOL PRESTO...... no more erosion? Voila....problem solved? Look at the aerial satellite view of 16 Captain Kidds Path. Notice the eastern and western ends of the buklhead where the sand has washed away and the entire bulkhead juts out into the water. Where will the bulkhead that protects Eastern Long Island start and where will it end so that the sand doesn't get sucked out from behind it? How much will it cost and who is going to pay for it? How much time will it buy us from the inevitable? Inquiring minds would like to know. " Dec 30, 10 4:17 PM

I don't consider my comment about where to start and end the bulkhead witty. It is a practical consideration. Years ago I held the same beliefs as you. Why shouldn't everyone be able to do anything they please? Then I became involved in a project which consisted of building a gabion wall which protected someones land on the water. Twenty five years later I see that while the wall is still intact the land to the east and to the west has eroded away. The neighbors to the east and west whose land is now being eroded are helpless to do much about it except put up bio logs or some soft solution but that isn't my point. My point is that to adequately shore up the eastern tip of Long Island or Long Island itself for that matter the whole shoreline would have to be addressed and not just small pockets of the shoreline. Someone will always be to the east or west and will suffer for the actions of the limited solution that someone who wanted to protect their little piece of paradise is able to afford.

Regarding your comments about ghettos..... Some would regard a good portion of the East End as a ghetto of a different flavor. It all depends on your level of ignorance or arrogance I suppose. " Dec 31, 10 8:07 AM

Money or how one makes their money is irrelevant and I think you are misinformed about what we all realize. I personally thank God every evening that there is someone with waterfront property out there protecting my road and trying to lift my burdens with little concern for their best interests. lol " Dec 31, 10 8:39 AM

As is your tact." Dec 31, 10 8:43 AM

Mansion is a hard word to define. To grow up poor or lower middle class a mansion might mean a paid off 4 bedroom ranch with a nice yard. To grow up spoiled with a sense of entitlement a mansion might mean something completely different. What is your idea of a mansion? :-)" Dec 31, 10 1:36 PM

Southampton High School Student Will Not Return To School After Shotgun Arrest, District Says

You seem to know alot about him... It sounds almost as if you have some sort of issue with him. This "child" is exactly that, a child under the age of 18. He has not been convicted of this charge so how can you question what his status is as a youthful offender? Why slur his name? Do you know what that does to a kid and his future standing in a community of this size? Do you know how it makes a parent feel? How would you feel seeing your own childs name in print or hearing it on the radio? Have a little compassion instead of wanting to crucify someone before they have their day in court. " Oct 26, 11 5:59 PM

Most likely he had an intention to hurt or scare someone? Where does that come from? Is that the way you think? Is that how you would act? I didn't read anything about intent in the article. I read just the opposite. There was no ammunition found and there were no threats against anyone. " Oct 26, 11 6:15 PM

It is quite obvious that you have issues with this person. People like this 17 year old are products of their environment. They haven't been on this earth long enough to realize the consequences of their reactions to their immediate environment. Before continuing to judge this individual why don't you look in the mirror and see that you are also a product of your environment. The difference between he and you is that you are older and as such should know better. I think an appropriate phrase is...."let he who is without sin cast the first stone" " Oct 27, 11 4:42 PM

How do you know it was he who brought the weapon onto school grounds? The weapon was in a car that he wasn't even in when it was discovered. Was the car locked when the weapon was discovered? He is a minor. Was he given his Miranda rights? Was he provided with a lawyer before making statements to the police? If he did make the statements as the police alledge he did are those statements admissable in a court of law? How do you know that he would have gotten off so lightly had he not been a minor in a previous brush with the law? How do you know for sure he had a previous brush with the law?Are you privy to those facts? So many questions that you nor anyone here can begin to answer yet so many people rushing to judgement and wanting to hang him up to dry from the nearest tree. judge not lest ye be judged" Oct 27, 11 6:06 PM

Pretty much by the book? Define "uncooperative".. How would you like your 17 year old child questioned by the police without a parent or attorney present to advise him?" Oct 28, 11 3:04 PM
