Locations of marinas should not be permitted in environmentally sensitive wetlands, biologically productive waters, critical wildlife nesting and feeding locations or shellfish areas. This describes the bay at Docker’s. Mr. Hoffman is really the opportunist here.
Why aren't the Trustees protecting our bays and bay bottoms? Kevin McAllister is doing more to protect our bays than the Trustees we elect. We need to change the Trustees.

Why is Richard Blowes permitted to make these major project decisions without advising or getting approval from the Town Board? First it was the Flanders Community Center overspent by 5 times the original approved cost - then it was the unauthorized Town Hall Roof - now it's the Justice Court center in Hampton Bays. How do you think the people in Hampton Bays feel about the decisions he makes that affect their community? They, like the rest of us, only find out about them after the fact. Is this transparency in government?
He is not an elected official so why is he is allowed to get away with this arrogant behavior? Who is really in charge in Southampton Town? " Feb 19, 09 5:45 PM
Thanks to the Southampton Press for exposing some of the financial problems. We still don't know what remains hidden behind Richard Blowes office doors. We need still more and total transparency.
Sally Pope is right! Let's get the state in to evaluate the accounting process mess. We don't even know how much money we have on hand. How in Heaven's name can we move on?
" Feb 24, 09 10:52 AM
During an emergency, I'm glad the Hampton Bays Senior center has a stove for a hot meal. After all, we are the big voting block.
Let Flanders eat sandwiches and coffee." Mar 4, 09 6:52 PM
CommonSense tells us that it will be difficult to get experienced professionals to serve office in face of the old political machine. When we look at the old guard who have been running town hall, I’m sure we can do better.
Anyone interested in running with the only two experienced professionals already in office, Sally Pope and Anna Throne Holst, will be in good company.
" Mar 20, 09 12:41 PM
Anna Throne-Holst is a registered Blank. It is to the detriment of Southampton Town that one party has had control of the government and that more experienced people have not been hired or run for office, regardless of party.
Are Southampton's finances now following in the footsteps of East Hampton?
" Mar 20, 09 2:30 PM
The town purchased much of the property adjacent to Dockers with CPF money in an attempt to preserve the land. Unfortunately the Trustees have not seen fit to protect the waters adjacent to Dockers.
The Southampton Town 1999 Comprehensive Plan set Marina Siting and Design Standards.
Marina development can cause significant environmental problems. It can impact not only wetlands and other sensitive resources along the shoreline, but can have serious water quality impacts due to increased sedimentation and pollution of runoff and the unintended discharge of petroleum products to surface water bodies.
Its location should exclude those that are environmentally sensitive: wetlands, littoral zones, biologically productive waterbodies with no history of dredging or major disturbance, shallow estuarine creeks, bays, or coves with poor flushing, rare species habitats, critical wildlife nesting and feeding areas, and productive shellfish areas. " Mar 20, 09 3:01 PM
Frankly the farmers market is a good idea. If Southampton doesn't want it, bring it to Hampton Bays.
Maybe Schmidt's would rather have a few more supermarkets to compete with like we have in Hampton Bays. " Mar 20, 09 10:29 PM
Looks like we are in the middle of a shell game." Mar 22, 09 10:50 AM
If Costco came to Riverhead, it would give all these supermarkets a run for their money. Another "one stop shopping" will just cut into the traditional small businesses in Hampton Bays to help drive them out. Just what we need." Apr 16, 09 6:38 AM
Thank you Skip Heaney for a fine job. Three years of fudging the figures.
Thank you Linda for following him over the cliff. And we keep voting them into office. What is wrong with us?" Apr 16, 09 7:36 AM
Thank you Sally Pope for saving $10,000 of our tax money and eliminating another consultant from coming in to do the work of the assessors office." Apr 22, 09 5:26 PM
Who were in charge of the town in 2005-2007? Heaney, Nuzzi, Kabot, Graboski and Kenny.
Kagel used the policy of not transferring money into proper accounts, and the Town Board was blind to what was going on?
" May 7, 09 6:27 AM
Why don't the Rechlers get going on the Gabreski Airport project instead of a resort in Hampton Bays?" May 7, 09 6:38 AM
Thank you Sally for bringing in the NYS Auditors. They can't get here soon enough. " May 7, 09 11:42 AM
Did anyone see the Newday May 20, 2009?
It will take Southampton Town at least five years to reimburse taxpayers for improper payments to the town police department that were made from the wrong accounts since 2002, Supervisor Linda Kabot said Monday.
In an interim report, Kabot said correcting those funding errors would cost $750,000 in back payments and $350,000 in interest for each of the next five years.
The good news, of sorts, is that the town owes most of that money to many of its own residents.
The basic error was that the town paid its police expenses over several years from accounts that contained money from every taxpayer in Southampton, known as whole-town taxes.
" May 20, 09 6:22 PM
Perhaps an "Affordable Housing PDD" on each of the properties in Sag Harbor would be perfect for Sag Harbor." May 21, 09 4:10 PM
Hey Frank, the Heaney group dug the hole and got us into the fiscal mess.
Candidates don't have to be born in Southampton to run, only live here. It's more important to elect competent managers.
Let's get out there and make a change. " Jun 2, 09 4:16 PM
If the Trustees met with the cemetery association to discuss the land trade, where are the minutes of the meeting? Who was at the meeting and exactly what was promised? The Trustees have private meetings with others at closed meetings and make promises, like with Dockers.
I can't believe the Cemetery Association would purchase a piece of land to trade with the trustees without a verbal agreement. The people on the cemetery association board are honorable people.
" Jun 27, 09 6:44 AM
Appoint and anoint has always been a way for the party in power to stay in power.
Our electorate decided to change that when Sally Pope replaced the town board's appointment.
Let the voters decide in both cases." Jun 29, 09 10:42 AM
On the East End, the bulk of our taxes are for the schools. Take a look at your tax bills. There needs to be consolidation of administrating school districts. " Jun 30, 09 9:28 AM
