Southampton Students Petition District To Change Columbus Day's Name

These students are correct in saying that Columbus came to the New World and did not form positive relationships with the indigenous; instead he took their goods and enslaved some/sent some back to Spain. What and how these teachers are teaching their students is exactly how all teachers should teach the subject of Columbus. Students are continuously fed historical information that is one sided and often not true, such as this example. Students need to be given the correct information regarding historical events, and this is a step in the right direction." Feb 6, 15 11:07 AM

Southampton Students Debate A Sons Of Italy Member About Columbus Day

Columbus did in fact slaughter millions of indigenous natives. Most students are being taught historically inaccurate information in their social studies classes. These students (and teachers) are taking a step in the right direction in realizing that students need to be presented with historically accurate information. I am glad that these students are fighting this battle and I hope something good comes out of it. " Mar 4, 15 2:50 PM

Remsenburg Parents Ready To Fight For Child's Right To Attend Westhampton Beach Schools

I commend the family for fighting for what is right for their son. All students, regardless of their (dis)ability, deserve to be educated in the least restrictive environment. Studies show that students with disabilities have better success rates when placed in an inclusive classroom with students without disabilities. I am shocked that WHB may not allow Aiden to attend middle school. WHB needs to become more inclusive to all students. I hope this works out for Aiden and his family and he is allowed to attend WHB next year." May 8, 15 8:05 AM

Tuckahoe Uncertain If It Can Continue To Educate Shinnecock Students
