Hults faces felony charges; probe's focus turns to supervisor's office

Well, you could make a movie and call it All The Supervisor's Men. Reminds me of Aug 1974 and the two reporters from the Washington Post. Only this time it was the Indy who broke the case. Oh, and I should think some resignations would have to be forthcoming shortly." Jun 11, 09 3:17 PM

Mad as heck over added Cablevision charges

A lot of new TVs accept a card instead of a box, but most are high end. I switched to Directv ten years ago and would not go back to cable. I do however pay an additional 5 bucks a month for a satellite receiver for each tv I own.
My main gripe with cable was the processor in the cable box was so slow, it took forever to scan the channels.
If I am not mistaken, i believe cable companies have until 2011 to switch from analog to digital. The over the air switch occurred last month. " Jul 14, 09 12:44 PM

Ref your Directv question, It is not a wind problem. A really heavy front from a rain storm may degrade the satellite signal for a few minutes as it passes through. This may happen once or twice a month at most.
My honest opinion is the HD is better on satellite than cable. I don't think your getting the full 1080i or even 750p on cable. Probably due to bandwidth problems.
I fiqure I pay about the same for satellite as cable, but I get more channels and better reception than cable can deliver." Jul 14, 09 7:05 PM

Man's best friend may follow post office to new home

An excellent story. By all means Bee Bee should be re-interred at the new post office location. It's nice it's been 4 decades and the aninal is not forgotten!" Jul 16, 09 5:50 PM

Surfers injured by feeding bluefish at Sagg

A school of bluefish could kill you in a few seconds. I've often wondered what would happen if you fell off a boat into a feeding school of them. That being said, I never heard of an event like this. " Jul 26, 09 6:52 PM

New Suffolk County taxes target motels, cell phones

The state already gets 75 cents a month for cell phone 9-1-1 service from each customer. Suffolk County has been trying for years to get a cut of this money. However they have no chance in hell of getting any of it. It all goes to NY State Police. At least that where it's intended to go." Aug 2, 09 5:44 PM

Long Island University to sell WLIU

I remember the station the day it started well over 20 years ago. It was on another assigned frequency in the educational portion of the FM band and had different call letters that I don;t recall. The station was assigned to broadcast with a power of only 10 watts then, but I could still hear the station ten miles away with a roof top yagi antenna at my home in Sag Harbor. It was really done on the cheap with a short tower, and three pieces of coax having to be spliced together to reach the antenna from the transmitter. The station's studio was in a basement at the campus. But the best part was the students had their own shows and could play whatever music they wanted. It was fun in those day to hear a real college radio with real student behind the mics!" Aug 7, 09 5:53 PM

Southampton Village replaces Crown Victorias with Chargers

Man, the old Chevrolet Impalas of years gone past with the Corvette engine were the best. Oh, who by the way mentioned high speed pursuits? It's called, fleeing to avoid apprehension, in these litigious times." Sep 25, 09 12:40 PM

Southampton Village 911 system suffers failures

Well, communications antennas should not have been installed on the roof of the police station in the first place. They belong on a tower 150 feet or higher. Poor initial design to say the least! If the mayor and village board have been aware of this problem for several months, it's about time they either s**t or get off the pot!" Nov 19, 09 11:05 PM

East End still digging out after record snow

Now, the next problem for the town will be the elderly, who's driveways and walks are snowed in, who will be calling for assistance, food, etc. Let's see how this will be handled." Dec 20, 09 8:29 PM

Abrupt and tearful end to Stony Brook Southampton dream

I am old enough to remember when the college opened. 1963 I believe. And the 70's when the students started a 10 watt FM radio station. I visited he campus many times over the years, concerts, etc. What a loss!" Apr 8, 10 10:40 PM

Beached whale in East Hampton put down; euthanization dart missing on Main Beach

This incident could not have been handled any worse by those involved, if they tried. The Coast Guard should have towed the whale back out to sea 20 miles, 3 days ago. I suspect there was never any intention to save this whale from the beginning. Just what they could gain scientificly after killing it. Yup a load a lead from a high powered rifle does the job guys. Instead of erecting tents on the beach to hide their deeds from the public, they would be well off to start searching immediately for the poison they lost in the surf. Oh well, there goes Main Beach to swimming this summer. I to, hope this paper asks hard questions about this deplorable incident.

Whale killed with bullet; experts defend how beaching was handled

He said samples were sent to many different labs, and it was hard to determine when the results would be available.

“It could be a day or a few weeks—or never, if the samples are inconclusive
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bet you 100 to 1 the results will never be released. We all got to believe the whale was ill, right? I am not a big fan of fascism as you can see.

Southampton Village Police launch internal investigation into inappropriate computer use

Well, I don't know how Southampton works, but basically there is three types of systems. A statewide police information network, including connections to NCIC, DMV, etc. A highly secure and auditied network. No hanky panky on that type of network. Then you have a inhouse, semi-secure networked system, that stores department records of all kinds, etc. And lastly mobile data terminals that relay info to and from HQ to cars and other devices licensed to be in that network. The inhouse system would also operate as a gateway to the state system for license info, local records or just about ANYTHING, you want to send out over the air to a mdt in a car.

Unless there are specific departmental guidelines in place prohibiting it, it sounds like there may be more to it than some bored employee/s viewing a porn site late at night.. Nice work if you can get it.

In all fairness, untill an audit of the machines alledgely involved in the incident is conducted, the police chief shouldn't be showing his cards at this time. If it turns out to be a personnel matter and non-criminal, the matter will not become a matter of public record anyway.

Dog poisoned; was it whale meat?

My dog had a large fatty tumor removed last year at a animal hospital in Southampton. As it blew up to the size of a baseball in a short period and was affecting his walking, I decided to put him through it, dispite his age, as it was a quality of life issue.

Expecting a $2000. bill, I was pleasantly surprised to be charged $600. Not bad considering the drugs, the Dr.'s and tech time and 3 post op visits.

I have heard some horror stories on outrageous vet bills originating from the East Hampton area. For me, however, I was treated very fairly as I have been for the past 30 years." May 7, 10 12:54 PM
