Two teenage girls are rescued in Flanders Bay

These girls are very fortunate to be alive today. The real story should be why did it take bay constables 20 minutes to get to the girls? Why didn't the town PD dispatcher alert the fire department for a water rescue after she was told their was a FD boat in the water 1000ft away and knowing that the bay constables were coming from shinnecock?

It's unfortunate that the town PD dispatchers continue to play politics with people's lives to maintain job security for the bay constables. Mr Sadleir knows the FD operates in the bay and has assisted the town on several occasions.

The Flanders Fire department operates three boats, one that is in the water almost year round and two that are on trailers. The boat that is docked was less than 1000ft away from this incident and the FD was never notified. Jamesport and Riverhead FD's also operate boats that can be quickly deployed in such incidents. AGAIN, no notification.

Any boaters in distress on Peconic Bay/Great South Bay should put this # in your phone/dial 631-852-4800 which is direct line to Suffolk County Fire Rescue Communications and ask for the appropriate FD w/ medical personnel to respond. " Apr 15, 09 3:48 PM

Westhampton man dies after losing control of SUV on Flanders Road

This is not a surprise...

2 or 3 people lose their lives on this particular 1/2mi stretch of road every year. What will be done about it? Absolutely nothing! Take a step back and think where all the money goes from the gas tax, that is, to half as-ed designed roads like Rt24 & County Rd 39.

It took how many yrs for 24 to be paved?

Two teenage girls are rescued in Flanders Bay

Bay Constable errr I mean Terry,

I guess I have struck a nerve in Linda's Navy!

Even if no one was hanging out at the firehouse it would've taken 5 minutes max for the FD to reach the girls w/ home response included. They could've launched their 2nd boat in ten minutes, went to cutchogue had lunch scooped the girls up and returned before you went on scene.

Case in Point: Yesterday at approximately 440pm, boater in distress off Long Neck Blvd. FD gets notified, FD boat is underway at 445pm w/ 3 EMT's on board. All units back in service IN 20 MINUTES! Are you an EMT? I highly doubt it since you think its ok for 2 teenagers to float on a dock in the middle of the bay when the water temp is in the 40's and the air temp is 46 degrees. A water temperature around the 40's can lead to death by hypothermia in as little as 15 minutes FYI.

If the public only knew half of the games that your agency plays someone would be brought up on charges." May 2, 09 7:35 PM

Waldbaum's backs out of mural project in Westhampton Beach

Waldbaum's corporation as a whole is very anti-community. A while back I went to Waldbaum's to ask for a donation and I was treated like a perp by the store management, I ended up walking out in dusgust and I will never shop at a Waldbaums ever again. Stop and Shop was more than helpful..." Jul 29, 09 6:00 PM

Roadwork will disrupt traffic on North Sea Road Tuesday, Wednesday

I hope the illegals have the decency to weed and maintain the new flower beds while they are waiting for work.

State DOT will install traffic light on Flanders Road this fall

Ingenious, a traffic light in the middle of nowhere. It takes the average driver around here about 1000ft to reach 10mph over the speed limit. If this road had half of the police presence as CR39 you would see the speeding and accidents drop dramatically.

CR104 should be expanded to 2 lanes and 5 or 6 additional traffic lights installed on Rt24. This would push all the traffic onto 105/104 thus eliminating all the accidents. Town officials have been presented with this idea many times but as usual Flanders is the step child of the town." Aug 27, 09 1:18 PM

Quogue women say they were mistakenly doused by Suffolk County Vector Control truck

you are advised of the spraying over all types of public service announcements...

you hear the truck coming down the road...

you identify the truck as a mosquito sprayer...

you remain outside as the truck passes and get doused...

Who is to blame here? LOL

The county should issue night vision goggles to all vector truck drivers." Aug 28, 09 6:45 PM

Southampton Village replaces Crown Victorias with Chargers

they need every cubic inch of those Hemi's to catch speeders doing 28 in a 25mph zone down Hill St!

Southampton Town deputy supervisor confronts, shoves PBA president over comments about budget

for the average citizen this would have been a discon at the least with a trip down to justice court in the basement. The restraint shown by Gwinn and Aube epitomizes the way a police officer should conduct himself. It must be comforting as a police officer knowing that you have a strong union that has your back.

As for police salary's our cops are worth every penny. Many of you commenting on salary's are the first ones to call 911 when your neighbor's dog is barking for more than 3 minutes straight. Go to radio shack and buy a scanner and you can listen to police calls all night long. Just remember in January when it is 2* out and you are home in your warm bed that Southampton Town PD is out being a social worker, first responder, marriage counselor etc.

Public questions the need for new firehouse

I don't know if most residents know but SFD is one of the most professional FD's around. For you part time residents the service you recieve is equal if not better than what you get in the city from a paid dept. SFD deserves a new firehouse.

Fire protection needs to grow with the community. If the village and town want to continue to allow more subdivisions/mcmansions and the like then the FD needs to add additional apparatus to meet federal guidelines for fire protection.

Our friends at the EPA recently added stricter emmissions standards for 2009 which will make the trucks even larger in order to fit the additional smog equipment.

This project is penny's on the dollar and is needed NOW. I applaud Ms Stevenson for asking tough questions representing her fellow taxpayers." Oct 4, 09 8:20 PM

East End still digging out after record snow

great job by the Southampton highway guys, not only did they clear the MAIN roads but they had to assist the ambulance company's and FD's to gain access to the hypochondriacs w/ a stomach ache in the middle of a blizzard. We are in a state of emergency therefore the little side roads are skipped for the main roads. I find it hysterical that this is the biggest snowstorm in LI history and you folks are still complaining. Bill always did the best he could with what he had over the years, enjoy your retirement Mr. Masterson." Dec 21, 09 12:08 PM

Lt. William Hughes named Republican nominee for vacant Southampton Town Board seat

I'm very dissapointed in all of you. I assumed most of the author's from Southampton, WHB and the wealthier parts of town had some education and would research before spewing the usual propaganda like our friend smallhatsize. One phone call would've made you aware that the upper management of the Southampton PD is NOT part of the PBA.

Getting past the liberal anti-authority/PBA propaganda, Mr Hughes is an outstanding candidate to represent the interests of EVERYONE in the township(even smallhatsize). He brings family values, an exemplary military career and leadership, traits that the other candidates democrat and republican lack. Good luck Bill" Jan 14, 10 5:49 PM

Election date set; nominees lining up

wow impressive, 8 years in the town, I'm sure she has a real feel of the pulse of the town(insert sarcasm). The maintenance guys at town hall have more credibility." Jan 15, 10 11:36 AM

Lt. William Hughes named Republican nominee for vacant Southampton Town Board seat

Hampton Bays has the most registered voters in the town. Everyone in HB loves Bill. Mrs Fleming on the other hand has only been in the town for 8 yrs and has been out of government in the post 9/11 world. The last thing we need is a city transplant who doesn't have a clue what this town is all about. Bill has been through the good times and the bad and knows the town inside and out. Like I said in another post, the maintenance guys at town hall have a better pulse of the town than Mrs Fleming." Jan 15, 10 11:45 AM

I'm still searching for Ms Flemings credentials besides a couple of nice photo ops w/ Bishop, ATH and Pope(c ya!). The NYC welfare system is the most abused in this country. I could see if she flipped the system upside down and got rid of the 3rd and 4th generation recipients but it is business as usual in the most corrupt city in the world. We should pile publius, smallhatsize, fidelis etc and drop you off in one of the housing projects in manhattan for a 24 hr period, you will need a set of riot gear but you get a front row seat to Fleming's best work, it will become obvious that she didn't do a very good job!

PS-Bring a pair of boots for the feces and urine in the elevators too!" Jan 15, 10 9:07 PM

more propaganda, Bill took a civil service test through the county and scored well enough to be high on the list and get promoted. After a retirement he was next on the list and moved up." Jan 15, 10 9:10 PM
