New Canoe Place Inn Application Filed With Town

The Inn was built in 1922. It is 90 years old, not 78.
The Inn is +/- 40,000 sq. ft. in size, not 98,000 sq. ft.
(The 98,000 number in the pre-submission report refers to the potential buildout of the Inn site at underlying zoning.)
The Community Preservation Fund cannot buy and replace anything with a park unless there is a willing seller. Its owners have stated that the Inn is not for sale. Also, there is a park at the canal and another one in the works for the downtown.
The article correctly refers to the flexible PDD mechanism "swapping" the development potential east to west. The motel use on the east is to go to the west. The residential potential of the west is to go to east.
40 new townhouses are not simply coming out of nowhere. The Inn site would allow for 33 now.
The difference of 7 is to be mitigated by an open space donation, and the public benefit of the restoration of a heritage asset.
With underlying zoning, no sewage treatment would be required, as is the situation at present. In this case, one side will be subject to treatment.
It's to be worked out that the Inn's restoration and townhouse construction are to run concurrently in and in phases.
Presumably the taxes are currently paid and would continue to be.
There is no idea whatsoever anywhere at all that the Town will be running a catering hall.
Etc.

Quogue Village Rejects Application For Religious Boundary; EEEA Plans To Sue

I don't get it...how can an Orthodox sect imagine, justify, request, or demand that the govt. of secular Quogue Village somehow release said sect from one of its very own religious proscriptions?
That would be like Catholic congregants of Sacred Hearts asking Southampton Village to confirm allowing or disallowing the eating of fish on Fridays...
Makes no sense.

to HHS:

Thanks for the info, but I remain confused...

That implementation of a finer point of doctrine requires the consent of a local authority implicitly suggests respect for that authority's own rules and reasons to grant a special request or not.

Should a recognized authority's response come back as a "No," perhaps it is just a "No," or a supportable "No," and not necessarily the presence of animus or prejudice.

That a sect would force such an issue anyway seems to defy the spirit and intention of its own doctrine's directive to cooperate with local authority in the first place. " May 19, 12 1:09 PM

Immigration Outreach Group Celebrates 10th Anniversary In Hampton Bays

There isn't anything to "wonder" about when it comes to the Catholic Church.

A self-interested corporate entity, it finds peddling mind control and sin management products a tougher sell these days amidst an increasingly educated and progressive American public. The Church will need adherent Latino immigrants for future cash, clergy and congregants. Simple.

The sister's work is commendable, but unfortunately enables a not-so-pure agenda on the part of their bosses in Rome and Rockville Center.

Some statistics:

USA population: 313,544,041
Square miles: 3,790,000
Percentage Catholic: 24%
Persons per sq. miles: 82

About a bordering neighbor:

Mexico population: 112,000,000
Square miles: 761,000
Percentage Catholic: 89%
Persons per sq. mile: 147

If Mexico's population math (undoubtedly influenced by the Church's historically negative stance on birth control) were to apply here, the USA would have a population of 557,130,000.

I'm not sure who would think of that as a good thing.

Again, the Sister's work is commendable. If, however, the Church they work for were not so anti-birth control, fear of never-ending waves of immigrants coming across the border might abate and tensions would ease.

Yes, the situation is sad in a number of different ways, and what is sad usually makes people mad. Particularly when the unspoken, underlying concern is that there will be no end to the sadness, despite the noble intentions and good works of dedicated women religious.

New Canoe Place Inn Application Filed With Town

Who ever said, and exactly where is it written, that the building could, would or should be "turned over to the Hampton Bays Historical Society?"

Is there a source for this "information"?

If there is, where can it be found in actual, shared reality?

Maybe the Inn's sappy and delusional neighbors would vaguely prefer the idea of a 98,000 sq. ft. nightclub, for instance, but probably not." Jun 18, 12 10:23 AM

Hampton Bays Neighbors Still Oppose Redevelopment Plans For Shinnecock Canal Land

That's right. For decades politicians and planners said "Put it in Hampton Bays" so that "tourists" could come here to "party." That "party" gave us the bars, motels, group rentals and the generally bad and undeserved reputation that hard-working locals see in lower property values relative to the rest of the town. Very nice. And nice to see neighborly posts from North Sea and Southampton encouraging the situation to stay that way. Thanks so much." Sep 26, 13 9:52 AM
