Dogs and plovers at odds on beaches

If we aren't careful, they could go the way of the Dodo.

Why have another black mark on our specie's soul?

I think they deserve to be protected, as it's humanity's fault they are endangered.

But then again, I could be wrong..." Aug 4, 09 11:19 PM

Drive-In movies resurrected in Southampton

Memories of the Bridgehampton drive-in are some of the earliest I have. My mother had this old blue Dodge Aspen station wagon, and we'd pile into the car in our PJs with my older cousins. Things were so much different then. Quieter, more peaceful, no honking horns, and sirens all day long. No wall to wall people. Just a slice of the country in the "East", not the bastard, exploited suburbia it has become.

Ahhh, the price of our "progress" that has been exacted on the next generation..." Aug 6, 09 5:49 AM

Westhampton Beach Police remain mum on ongoing internal investigation of incident

All I know is, the two times I ran out of gas recently, ironically on the way to the station, a SHT officer happened by to help push the car off the road.

Warranted, I had to walk for gas, and it was a reasonable distance, BUT there was a cop when I needed one.

You guys can bash to your heart's content, but just pluck the bad apples out, and wash off the rest of the bushel before you do." Oct 6, 09 12:46 PM

McGintee resigns as East Hampton supervisor

All they have done is follow the example set by the rest of the fiscally "blessed".

It was all about the Benjamins, and lining pols and their "friends" pockets with them.

It was the example the citiots and Wall St. brought to these towns, and the avarisitc ways they glorify that led us to this point in History.

The wealth of the five towns was in it's agriculture, rustic beauty, and singular environment. NOT because of "monuments to excess".

These geniuses walked a part in the party, and became a sideshow act in the pathetic circus that put well over sixty percent of the nation into a ridiculous amount of debt, and an astronomical bankruptcy rate.

Though he may have technically "committed no crime", he sure as hell was an accessory to the mess.

Thank Providence he is gone, and I say don't let it happen again...

Southampton Town deputy supervisor confronts, shoves PBA president over comments about budget

If they managed their money wisely over the years, they can sure as hell afford a pay cut.

Let's remember to thank all the lovely rich people who brought us this mess, by driving up the cost of everything, and usurping the town for their own excess.

Quit fighting amongst ourselves, and maybe put up a fight against the disparity that has been created.

That's my two cents..." Oct 6, 09 1:13 PM

Campaign Diary: Gregor pushes plan for solar panels at town landfill

I for one, grew up with the lovely "eau du dump", and sometimes still get a nice whiff now and then.

Let's do something really productive with it, and maybe we won't need a tax increase." Oct 6, 09 1:44 PM

Springs man fights to preserve woods alongside West Pond

Once again, it's about the money, not what's right.

If the Joslin people had any respect for the East End, or the environment, they would not have outbid Mr. Schwatzmann, and his good intentions.

Yet again, we have people with power (money) who insist on destroying, or exploting something good for their own excess, and avarice." Oct 6, 09 1:49 PM

East Hampton couple returns woman's missing wallet ... and $2,400

Now, now, nicole.

I had a supervisor once, who in his own right is a bit shady when it comes to scruples.

There are just people out there who can't believe that someone would do the right thing. They would assume some untrustworthy aspect of one's character is yours as well. They can't get over that lacking in themselves, and that's how they express it.

Just the way it is, I suppose..." Oct 6, 09 2:04 PM

SUV flips in Montauk crash Sunday

All I need is my W endorsement.

Who was this guy's employer?

If he needed to pass so badly, what was wrong with the Napeague Stretch, where there is much better visiblity? He had no business pulling that move where he did, and I'm a professional.

Sometimes, I think the CDL exam and road test are too easy, no matter how much people complain about the road test.

I missed two on the basic exam when I took my written test, one on my air brakes, perfect on my tank, two on my HazMat, and missed five points on my road test.

SO, consider the source..." Oct 6, 09 2:33 PM

Club members offer $1 million for Oddone bail; trial nears start

Due to alcohol being involved, and the nature of the incident, I may have to agree with INS on the issue of charges.

He may not yet be found guilty, but it seems he has enjoyed, and abused, his freedom in this life.

Out on bail?

I think not..." Oct 6, 09 2:51 PM

Deliberations in Oddone trial resume Monday with testimony reread to jury

Fact remains, Mr. Oddone CHOSE not only to assault Mr. Reister, he chose to hold him in a headlock for an extended period.

Regardless of either person's behavior, he HAD the choice to walk away.

Mr. Oddone did not walk away, and a man is dead for it.

He is responsible for this man's death, as HE made the decision to assault, and place Mr. Reister in a chokehold.

All Mr. Oddone had to do was walk away..." Dec 12, 09 4:59 PM

Driver flips SUV in North Sea, trying to avoid deer

Very true, overdevelopment has pushed the deer out of their traditional foraging grounds.

Fifth Annual Polar Bear Plunge splashes Saturday

Had a great time, a friend and I carpooled since I have heated seats (YEAH, BABY), and it would seem a great time was had by all.

Lunacy, you say?

Weeeellll, I did see a bunch of guys in red coats, but no one in white coats strangely enough.

Upon this observation, Garfield said to me, and I quote, "Nah, they were sane enough to stay indoors at the institution this morning!"." Dec 12, 09 10:39 PM

Southampton Town Board adopts dark skies legislation

Well, how about motion detection spotlights on your property?

Ones that will go on automatically, and extinguish after an "acceptable" amount of time.

Y'know, on a new moon in my backyard, as long at there isn't any light pollution, the stars are incredible, and, you can time the low orbit sattelites as they pass over. You can see them with the naked eye, and even time them with a stopwatch, should you be so inclined.

By the way, there is one thing that enthuses me more than obnoxious, retina searing "Blue Streak" headlamps coming the other way, and that is obnoxious, retina searing lights at the end of some driveways, impeding visiblity on a thoroughfare." Dec 12, 09 10:46 PM

Oddone guilty of first-degree manslaughter, jury announces Monday

fix-it-now, it's hard not harbor at least some dislike toward those who have taken too much from society, the irresponsible wealthy, or this young man.

This young man took a healer, husband, and father from ALL of us, first and foremost, his immediate family. And, though a corrections officer, he was a healer. He helped to heal people's lives, who wanted something better after harming society, and being incarcerated for it.

The wealthy in question, also harm society, by hoarding too much unto themselves, and taking from the ability to create a sustainable, and equitable society. They drive inflation, and slowly, repeatedly through History have imploded the economy with their excess, harming society in the process. But, then again, they are not the subject of this thread.

The verdict is.

Hat's off to the jury, and my advice is, don't waste society's time with an appeal. He killed a man, has a history of being violent, and it finally caught up with him." Dec 16, 09 9:12 AM
