East Hampton Town councilwoman could face charges for interfering in arrest

It was still a good chuckle..." Mar 12, 10 12:17 PM

WOW!
Fancy that this is a hot topic.
I chalk this up to a distraught mother. No matter how much of a professional she "should" be, there is a motherly instinct to protect a child.
She most likely acted no differently than most any other mother would. Any respectable judge would see that, and leave it as a non-issue.
At least, that's my opinion, I could be wrong.

OH, and unless you are a woman, or have children, I really desire not to hear your musings on the subject. But, I will listen..." Mar 12, 10 12:21 PM

Alert issued after girl is questioned by man driving a tan van in Remsenburg

I also fondly remember a time before the arrival of wealth, and influence.
When we didn't have all these domestic issues, overdevelopment, and overpopulation.
And, there's no putting the genie back in the bottle, or wishing it away.

Southampton High School seeks upgrades for planetarium, envisions opening to public

I agree. Due to divorce, I did not attend SHS, but, the school I went to had a defunct planetarium, which was not used.

I recall how disappointed I was that it didn't work, and would love to see this upgrade happen, so these kids don't know that kind of disappointment. Maybe we could throw in a Foucault pendulum somewhere as well.

In case of emergency: East End SWAT teams

The training these officers, and paramedics recieve is not solely applicable in a SWAT situation.

The methods they learn, and knowledge they acquire can be applied elesewhere, as well.

Public decries proposed cuts to LIRR service on East End

I took my first "real" vacation to St. Thomas a few years ago.

I had to take a 1 A.M. train out of Southampton, so I could catch a 7:30 A.M. flight out of Kennedy. Even then, when seeking transportation to the city for an excursion, I found the transportation almost useless.

Now they want to reduce it?

For starters, how about you reduce some of the ridiculous salaries these idiots running the show receive as "compensation", and let the people have dependable public transportation?

The MTA is simply another shining example of gross fiduciary negligence, and they want US to pay for it." Mar 12, 10 2:18 PM

Firefighters extinguish brush fire in Westhampton

OK, could have been a spark from a passing train.

HOWEVER, noting the breezy conditions today, and the proximity of the fire to the road, I would wager it is more likely that a driver disposed of a cigarette via their car window.

MTA finalizes cost-saving plan, including cut to Montauk line

Suffok is GARGANTUAN by comparison to any other county on Long Island, but no, we can't consolidate from Riverhead eastward. Take a look at a map sometime, you may get the picture. Leave Suffolk in Happauge, and give us weary locals the voice we need. We have been drowned by NYC's wealth and avarice for too long. Our kid's can't have their own slice of the American Dream, because some interlopers have ABUSED theirs, on a level that constitutes gross fiduciary negligence. The MTA has gone beyond gross fiduciary negligence, and into unknown territory that I just don't have the lexical terms to describe at the moment. We are the only ones who can stop these jackasses, and the biggest one running the House can't live forever." Mar 30, 10 7:43 PM

Local stationery and office supply shops react to Staples planned for Bridgehampton Commons

Ummmm.... K-Mart?" Mar 30, 10 7:47 PM

Unfortunately, as much as we locals could boycott Staples, most of the summer folk most likely would not.
I'd like to know if Staples pays more than minimum wage to their part time employees. I can almost guarantee you whatever work you find there will not have a pay scale commensurate with the cost of living here. What you will find is another corporate that keeps their store 95% part time, so they don't have to provide decent benefits, or more than 30 hours a week maximum, if you get that many.
As far as saying NO to their presence, well, we don't need their pinstriped lawyers bankrupting our town in a fight we don't have the finances to win.

Southampton Town Board considers joining lawsuit against MTA

Nothing like the MTA having us pick up the tab for their fiscal negligence!

And frankly, I always thought one lane in, two lanes out was a nice, subtle hint. Well, now we have four, and our resources have become more inadequate. Nothing can change the fact that what we live in here is a confined space, which really can only sustain a certain number of people.

And, P.S., stop feeding the strays, and maybe they'll leave..." Mar 30, 10 8:08 PM

County Road 39 to see minor widening project in the fall

NO, we can't. When it was 45, people usually did 55 or 60.

Now that it's 35, they usually only do 45, or 50.

Personallly, I set my cruise control to 40, and roll through.

Traffic lights are designed to stagger traffic, so left turns CAN be made. When you exceed the limit, you close the gaps, and leave people waiting. Then, they get frustrated, take chances, and accidents happen." Apr 2, 10 10:08 AM

Caldor, and shopping for plants, trees, and potting soil in the back when they had a nursery. Going to Stanley's (can't remember his last name, green house by Whspering Fields Ct.) on Head of Pond to get cow manure for the garden. Running around the Sears catalog store, and playing hide and seek around the appliances, while Mom ordered school clothes. The big old carpet cleaners in King Kullen, when it wasn't TJ Maxx. Oh yeah, taking Mom down the back roads from North Sea, 'cause she could never remember, Seeing NOTHING but corn, potatoes, and barns along the way. Running around by Road D, playing in the bay, and on the beach when dad worked for Cy Coleman.
And, when Rose's Grove didn't connect to Deerfield. There was just a pile of dirt across caddycorner to the Stengel's old house.
Riding my bike down Major's Path, ironic, as Fish Cove is by the dump, and not seeing the significant amount of trash I see on the road I see these days. Backing up to the pit at the dump, and watching the payloader go by. And, can't forget, "shopping" at the "top o' the mountain", and at the North Sea dump in general.

Health care reform bill gets mixed reviews on East End

Frankly, the whole debacle is sad.
Insurers, and drug companies have profited grossly at the expense of the injured, or ill for decades.
It has become blatantly obvious that people cannot regulate themselves, so it would seem authority needs to do it.
To quote Matt Taibbi in Rolling Stone, "The system assumes a certain minimum level of ethical behavior and civic instinct over and above what is spelled out by the regulations. If those ethics are absent — well, this thing isn't going to work, no matter what we do. Sure, mugging old ladies is against the law, but it's also easy. To prevent it, we depend, for the most part, not on cops but on people making the conscious decision not to do it."

If you can't control yourself, and I hate to say this, "We" will have to do it for you. Stopping abuses, and usurpations is moreover what this is about, and fear is turning it into a circus.
