Developers present new plans for Tuckahoe hamlet center

All about the Benjamins, eh?

Actually, in this case, it is about those bills with Salmon P. Chase on them..." Apr 2, 10 1:44 PM

There two phrases of mine that come to mind:

Bastard suburbia, and "de pecuniae" segregation.

Back in the Civil Rights days, they had "de facto" segregation, and we all know what that is.

Pecunia is Latin for money. Any questions?" Apr 2, 10 1:50 PM

President signs historic health care legislation into law with Bishop's support

This is not about government control, it's about regulation.

It's about reigning in costs, and corporate greed at the expense of the people.

This cleanup has to start somewhere, and, this is it.

Remember, the most powerful weapon on the planet isn't any gun, or bomb, it is fear which is such. Politicians have, and always will use it for leverage to meet their own ends.

My advice is to be rational, avoid the Polemics, and stick to the facts." Apr 2, 10 2:13 PM

I think it is the COSTS involved with healthcare, that are "bankrupting" the state.

Less government, means less regulation. Less regulation invites malfeasance in like Dracula." Apr 2, 10 2:20 PM

I agree.

Please avoid the Polemics." Apr 2, 10 2:22 PM

OK, the last line was funny..." Apr 2, 10 2:24 PM

And, who created the debt, that will cause the debt you speak of?

Technically, via economic hypothesis, even if you don't have conventional debt, the fact that your income cannot support your basic needs is debt. You simply don't have those basic needs, because you can't afford them.

We call it "low-income", or "poverty"." Apr 2, 10 2:28 PM

Sad part is, even those with a solid work ethic, simply don't have the means to
"make it".

You can thank those who have "capitalized" on their own fortune, and luck to excess for that." Apr 2, 10 2:31 PM

Illegal immigrants are also "exempt" from taxes, via the 1099, and no real checks on the validity of their status.

How's that?" Apr 2, 10 2:33 PM

Nope, I don't think so.

We have to start somewhere, we need regulation to reign in costs, and it needs to begin somewhere.

There will be alot of less than popular decisions to be made, and, as always, we will have Public Servants, and politicians casting their votes to make these decisions." Apr 2, 10 2:36 PM

Again, please avoid the Polemics!!!!!!!

Thanks, SHNative" Apr 2, 10 2:38 PM

And, exactly what type of coverage will you get at $250 per month?

I get the feeling you would be footing a good percentage of the hospital bill, on top of your premiums.

The underlying roots are self-entitlement, greed, and avarice.

Mostly on the parts of insurers, and pharmacuetical companies who put profit BEFORE people." Apr 2, 10 2:45 PM

Hopefully, not roughly 50 times minimum wage per hour, as is the case here at over 3 million a year, last time it was made public.

That's a fact, no Polemics..." Apr 2, 10 2:54 PM

I don't know about a tsar, but, what I will say is that these types of excessive compensation are a big part of what has created the turmoil that exists today.

Take some time, check out "The People Speak...", and you may just find out how relative the experiences and words of the people years ago are, and differ very little today. You may even say, 'Hey, I've felt JUST LIKE THAT!".

Southampton Town looks to confer authority of peace officers on code officers

The reality is that Code Enforcement calling on the PD, takes them away from patrols. It would be an added convenience, BUT, you need to limit their authority to a point. Most any cop would not storm a house by her/himself, without backup.
Like the disclaimer says, "Special terms, and conditions may apply".

In regard to the whole illegal immigrant debacle, you know what amendment we need?

Change the rule from being born on American soil for citizenship, and add "birthed child MUST have at least ONE naturalized, or U.S. born parent." .

I do know that you should educate yourselves about some key people leading up to the crises in our markets. Health care, real estate, derivatives, and others. The key market was derivatives.
The first bailout was actually back in about 1996, and a financial institution called Banker's Trust was the beneficiary of that bailout. They were big in the OTC derivatives market.
Learn who Ayn Rand was, her direct influence on Alan Greenspan, and his belief that markets could self regulate, upon which he later recanted before Congress. He discovered markets could not sefl regulate, because PEOPLE cannot self regulate.
Learn who Brooksley Born was, how her warning was supressed, and the de-regulation that followed via the Clinton Administration. This included the repeal of the GLBA, which led to the economic collapse that occured about a decade later ('08). The GLBA repealed checks and balances enacted after the Great Depression, and was the deregulatory catalyst which set the collapse in motion. Learn about who Robert Rubin is, and how he was a disciple of Greenspan who aided in silencing Born.
And yes, the same Robert Rubin who destroyed Racing at the Bridge, for Golf at the Bridge.
Also, learn about Larry Somers, Timothy Geithner, Gary Ginsler, Arthur Levitt, and anyone else I forgot.
Happy reading!!" Apr 3, 10 1:53 AM

Health care reform bill gets mixed reviews on East End

Well, AlwaysLocal, there is a difference between cost and structure of care, and the quality and education of the personnel providing the care.
We are the "Great Melting Pot", and we do have this knack of attracting some of the best, and brightest talent.
We also have one of the highest levels of technology in a medical environment. Look at facilities like Sloan-Kettering for example." Apr 3, 10 9:18 AM

Yep, goldenrod, you've got a great point.
It seems like too many in our society MUST capitalize on EVERYTHING they possibly can.
The greatest cost factor in any industry our society utilizes, is the price placed on time.
What is a person "worth" per hour? Why is someone worth 30, 40, and even 50 times what someone who earns minimum wage? (e.g., [3M/20k = 150] & [300k/20k] = 15). So, if you make 20k a year, and your doc takes home 300k, basically society is telling you that he is worth 15 times what you are as a person.
Therein that interoggative lies a root of ill." Apr 3, 10 9:26 AM

Alliance and Empire reach agreement; both sides say they're pleased

Probably.

They realized they had little time to continue abusing their capitalistic freedom, in a relatively unregulated market.

Once PROPER regulation is enacted, they will no longer be able to grossly profit at the expense of others. Nor, profit from other's misfortune." Apr 4, 10 12:38 PM

Sag Harbor School District asks entire staff to consider pay freeze

Well, we have the Smith's, who have moved in from elewhere with a boatload of money in their pockets. Now, to have security, and the "American Dream", the Jones' must play catch up, and they need "fat raises", to live nominally, or even excessivel like their new, mostly part time neighbors, do. Most likely, whose lifestyle they covet.

Talk about trickle down economics..." Apr 4, 10 12:43 PM

Seven towns to sue MTA over payroll tax

I'll try to keep this simple.

Poor management on their part, does not necessarily constitute an emergency on OUR part.

The East End should not have to cover the cost of the MTA's gross fiduciary negligence. We also cannot be expected to cover the cost of their lack of due diligence.

It's unconstitutional, and how can we not get someone to take this pro bono from a moral standpoint?" Apr 5, 10 6:07 PM

Alliance and Empire reach agreement; both sides say they're pleased

Near as I can gather, Mr. Reid felt the documentary undermined the values, and opinions presented in his book. PBS asked him to do the doc, and then disagreed with him when they wanted their "fair and balanced view".
As someone educated in the Classics myself, though not to the extent of Mr. Reid, I can say that learning thousands of years of History, learning the daily life of those who came before us great and small, indeed grants you a broader perspective of the world, and society.
Mr. Reid is a student of the world, and has spent his life as a journalist living abroad, instead of residing in the same locale through the course of his life. He has not only visited, but spent years living everywhere from Japan, to the U.K.
You do not become a Kaiser Foundation Fellow because you have no clue what you are talking about, nor do you become a Post News Bureau Chief for the same reason either.
Mr. Reid has consistenlty exposed corruption, greed, and avarice in society. It is not the professions he takes issue with, it is their idea of self-entitlement, ego, and avarice which he takes issue with.
He simply, firmly believes that you should not die in debt, to finance another's excessive wealth.
Especially if you are ill, and vulnerable." Apr 5, 10 9:46 PM
