Suffolk Legislature tries to quiet helicopters

All helicopters AND jets should arrive and depart to the South - right over the ocean and Sagaponack. The fish and clams won't mind as much as all of us who live to the north and west of the East Hampton airport and have had to endure the ever increasing window rattling noise. My guess is that most of those who arrive and depart by jet and helicopter live South of the highway - I think it's only appropriate that their neighborhoods should be part of the solution to this noise issue. If I sound annoyed - I am; Too many years have gone by where the quality of life outside has been marred by the jet and copter noise of those arriving in these very expensive taxis." Madame Tong's open for holiday weekend

Maybe Bravo will pick up on this and make Kleefield's story into a reality show about how to ruin a few good restaurants. Tthere's a good side to all of this too - - keeping that nice location in Sag Harbor closed can only help the other restaurants that really care about the food business." Jul 1, 09 3:23 PM

Draft impact study calls for runway change at East Hampton Airport

Mr. Wadsworth - thank you for speaking Out!

There ARE enough people who are willing to fight the horrible noise attacks from the propeller planes, jets, and helicopters that leave and arrive in East Hampton, and have said ENOUGH. If a viable noise abatement solution is not presented to the public soon, I would suggest that the airport not receive ANY money for improvements. Living just North of the airport off of Sagg Rd. has become a noise nightmare. Voluntary height limits is just ignored by the pilots. The airport is not a good neighbor!

Please Use the better approach and departure lanes to the South - over the farm fields and the ocean.

Sag Harbor teachers plan to march through village

I am disgusted with TASH "demanding" anything. In the business world, if you don't like your job or your pay, you are invited to leave. While most of the real workers on the East End have taken substantial reductions in income due to the recession - myself included, it is agravatingl to watch this ongoing
"Kochansz Klowns" show. Please - grow up, accept that you still have a great paying job with super benefits, stop whining that you deserve even more than you get, and go do what you're paid to do - - teach the children of Sag Harbor. You're bad behavior is going to come back and bite you in the butt. I think that the likelihood of teacher layoffs will increase exponentially as the working community reacts to this TASH nonsense - and it IS happening all over the country right now; TASH is not immune. Wake up and smell the community sentiment !

I saw the "Kochansz Klowns Show" parade in town this afternoon - with many imported "protesters" from Wading River, etc. Teachers - you are burying yourselves with anti-teacher sentiment. The Tribe has spoken - leave the Island!

And, why hasn't the Sag Harbor School Superintendent and the various School Principals put a stop to teacher demonstrations within the schools? " Oct 19, 09 7:02 PM

Sag Harbor School Board, teachers to resume negotiations

Standing up for yourself is a good thing and should always be encouraged - but wearing slogan t-shirts while being paid to teach and complaining that your raise isn't big enough, is something quite different. The teachers union continues to be blind to real world economics and of those who pay for the school system; - why - - - because it's been tolerated and accepted for so long. It is time for that to change - because the system is broken. " Oct 20, 09 6:59 PM

Free house up for grabs in North Haven

Amazing - here's a couple doing a nice thing - offering to give a very old house away for free, yet most of the comments have the "the glass is half empty" spin. They could have avoided this negativity by just knocking it down; rather, they chose the high road. BTW - there is no McMansion involved.
Good for you Gayle and Kevin !" Oct 22, 09 6:15 AM

Taxpayers Reject $6.7 Million Bond Vote in Sag Harbor

And this triggered a 1/4 page ad in the Sag Harbor Express today paid for by TASH - about how our school district is in crisis; a so called crisis fabricated by the very same group - TASH. There is no crisis - just quite a few employees of our school system who keep pushing our buttons about how they deserve more despite the reality of our current economy. Tired of it? I am.

Looks like our community has voted NO CONFIDENCE with giving more money to the school system. I'll bet the trend continues....." Dec 10, 09 6:58 PM

Congressman Tim Bishop address Wainscott citizens' concerns

I live in one of the areas affected by the noise -and enjoying the peaceful outside area our modest home in Sag Harbor is impossible from May to October when the parade of planes and helicopters go overhead. I commend Congressman Bishop for being involved because the Town of EH doesn't care. Lastly, I don't believe the 40% figure quoted by the "consultant"; the shear volume of noise gets worse each year, not better." Mar 11, 10 7:40 AM

Fairway Restaurant closed after 20 years

Another piece of what made the East End great is going to be lost forever; this is a very sad day! But kudos to the towns back in 2003 to have saved us from another winding lane of 5 acre vacation estates. Good Luck Dan - you did good !

Sag Harbor School District asks entire staff to consider pay freeze

I support a combination of both a salary freeze (It's NOT a hardship to have a guaranteed income every week)... and a cut in benefits. Where else to employees reap such a big pile of benefits as the teachers have? They should contribute 50% to their own health care cost; That's what the real world does. And THAT will help the budget!
We have to get control of the ever increasing spending.

Hampton Bays school budget includes 18.5 percent tax hike
