Critics respond to airport plan

The Bishop-Schummer plan does benefit those living along LI's North Shore by requiring helos to fly further offshore; but it does NOTHING for us. They will still fly similar routes out here as they approach and leave the airport; they will still be an uncontrolled bunch of air jockeys flying at will. It contains NO NOISE ABATEMENT solution for the East End. The EH Town GEIS contains NO NOISE ABATEMENT solution either. I hope that there is a requirement that they fly far offshore completely around Orient and Montauk, then go West offshore over the ocean, and into the airport over Georgica Pond. PLEASE appeal to Mr. Bishop and our other elected officials to get involved with a BETTER SOLUTION for us, because EH Town doesn't give a damn if you and I can't have a conversation in our back yards. Fishing Lobbyist Defends Record

This decision is hard to understand and makes no sense. It can't be because of his his huge salary, so the Republicans must want to bring another one of their cronies on board. Mr. Wilkinson, this is really a dumb move, and you've certainly done a bunch of them!" Feb 20, 11 9:13 AM

New Committee Charged With Tackling Helicopter Noise

The decision to dissolve the Noise Abatement Committee makes no sense! They had offered some decent suggestions to Councilman Stazione and the Board, but nothing happened with them. I truly hope that sharper minds will prevail in the future and demand that the East Hampton Airport return to the low noise status of the past. No - it's not a crazy idea; this is a quality of life issue for the East End. Any helicopter and airplane that do come to East Hampton along the North Shore should use air routes that go around Plum Island, and also use a route over the ocean with an approach to the airport over Georgica Pond. PLEASE DON'T LET THOSE WITH BIG CHECKBOOKS DETERMINE THE FUTURE FOR US - " Feb 25, 11 5:58 AM

Southampton Trails Preservation Society Urges Town To Buy Bridgehampton Land

Thank you Dai for your efforts !! The open vista benefits everyone, not just hikers.
The view from the top, or looking at that open space from Scuttle Hole Road, is one of the things that make the East End great - GREAT VIEWS ! It should be kept undeveloped and not the location of three more weekend edifices. Purchasing these properties with Community Preservation Funds is the right thing to do. Come on, Town of Southampton, please act now before it's lost." Jun 4, 11 6:18 AM

Top Residential Water Consumers On South Fork

Great reporting, Southampton Press! I love the idea of tiered pricing for these
uba-water-consumers. The fresh aquifer below Long Island is a gift from the last glacial age of 25,000 years ago. It is no an endless spring - - If we abuse it, we'll lose it. " Jun 29, 11 1:41 PM

East End Verizon Workers Join In Regional Strike

I don't have empathy for anyone today who walks off a well paid job because they are being asked to contribute to their health care cost. That's real world economics. Almost no working people today have a Verizon type pension and free healthcare; even fewer people have any medical benefits the day after they retire.

Town Board Member Sees Potential Helicopter Solution On The South Shore

You are correct, but that option doesn't become available until Dec.31, 2014 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

UNTIL THEN, the FAA rule of "fly in 24 hours a day, in any aircraft you want, disturbing anyone you want with your noise, and not be responsible for the aviation fuel droplets landing on your deck or on your vegetables" will still be in place. FYI, if a pilot thought he could land a 747 at EH airport, there is nothing stopping him from doing that! Yes, that is true.

The EH Town Board - both current and those hoping to win in November, should listen to the people, defy the FAA, and take control of the airport NOW. " Aug 15, 11 7:23 AM

FAA Approves East Hampton Town's Airport Layout Plan

The airport is not "business and community asset". It services less than 1% of the East End population, and only a handful of people make a profit from it. The airport operation adversely affects thousands of East Hampton and Southampton Town residents with year round excessive noise and air pollution. Other resort areas across America have banned this kind of 24/7 boutique airport that benefit only the rich and famous; that should happen here too. " Sep 10, 11 12:41 AM

Airport Attorney: Allowing FAA Grants To Expire Will Not Help Curtail Airport Noise

How extremely sad that this so called "legal expert" tells us that we are to suffer forever, with no recourse, from the obscene amount of noise and pollution overhead coming from helicopters, jets and seaplanes - who bring the "less than 1% of the local population" out here to vacation!
Re-routing aircraft and a seasonal control tower will only spread the noise pain to the South. If you are affected, don't give up! Mr. Kirsch's "spin" in this story is just that - it's his point of view. This should be a "quality of life" issue for all, but unfortunately, others see it differently.
Please Visit: www.quietskiescoalition.org and join those who believe that the airport is OK, but in much smaller doses.

However this winds up, I truly hope I will regain the use of using my yard during the Summer without the burden of all of the noise and pollution we have now." Oct 12, 11 5:52 PM
