Deal gives Kabot GOP nod for reelection

As a Republican, I am sick to my stomach at this turn of events. Marcus Stinchi caved in to the pressure that Linda put on him. He basically sold his sole to the devil in order to retain his position as the head of the Republican Committee. Does he need the money that bad? Is his landscaping business hurting that much? His principles should be questioned and he should lose his position. Maybe he feels that giving Linda the chance to fail in November will rid him of her forever. I, for one, will place my vote with ATH, if only to help make sure that Linda fails. If she does, maybe the political world will be rid of her forever. How can Bill Wright be left hanging in the wind, Marcus? Bill, there is no promise that he could make that can make up for this betrayal!! If I were you, I'd probably look to the enemy in the next election. Nancy Graboski will be out and the Democrats seem to poised to own the Southampton Town Board for years to come. They just need to tweek their ideology slightly and look to get rid of the jobs that came from patronage. That can cut the deficit in a rather quickly. Steve Brautigam never should have been retained since he couldn't do his job as Comptroller in the first place. Yet, each Board Member except Chris Nuzzi (my hero) voted to give him a civil service job paying $100,000. Now the only way to get rid of him is to get rid of his job position. That should be the next cut on the list in order to bring down the $10 million plus deficit. There should also be a freeze on hiring outside consultants that run over budget and don't deliver on their promises. The East Quogue Moratorium is a prime example. It cost the Town $250,000 and 2 years and the result was a decision that was originally broached by the Moratorium Committee at the start. What more can I say. Oh yeah, Linda should stop blaming Skip Heaney for all of the troubles with the deficit. Remember that you and Nancy were on the Board and went along with Skip every step of the way. If you had a problem, you could have and should have voted "No"!! You should be ashamed of yourself. This is very hypocritical. " Jul 23, 09 12:55 AM

Independence Party endorsements cause rift

First of all, although I am a Republican, I woud consider Bill Pell an excellent candidate for the Trustee seat and he will be getting my vote over Eric Schulz. As far as Alex Gregor is concerned, stop your crying. Once you put your name in the hat for Superintendent of Highways, it was time to step away from your Independence Party chairmanship. Talk about a conflict of interest. I fear that the Highway Department will go from about a $2 million deficit to a $5 million deficit with Alex Gregor running the show. Southampton residents should be careful on election day as to whom they elect into this postion. If Alex Gregor wins, then maybe it is time to make this position one by appointment. That's my rant for today!! " Jul 23, 09 5:28 PM

Deal gives Kabot GOP nod for reelection

To MrRight in Bridgehampton,

I am not a Republican committeeman from East Quogue nor am I Mr. Wright's campaign manager. I just think that Marcus was a coward and placed his position above his principles. He should have gone to war with the committee's choices and let the chips fall where they may. This Town is tired of politics as usual and now that is what they will hav come November." Independence Party endorsements cause rift

Alex Gregor and integrity in the same sentence? This guy has made promises in every election to deliver the Independence Party Line in order to get a civil service job in Southampton Town. He needs to find what he is good at and look for a job in that industry. It's certainly not as the Superintendent of Highways. May back at the Planning Board or private industry. Once he accepted the nomination to run for the Superintendent of Highways, he should have stepped down as the chair of the Independence Party in Southampton Town. This is not integrity, this is a conflict of interest. Step down Alex and give your Party a fighting chance to survive!! " Jul 24, 09 12:38 PM

When the Highway Department shows a $5 million deficit in 2 years due to the ineptitude of Alex Gregor (assuming he wins), SHNative and everyone else who voted for Alex should be surcharged to make up the deficit. I do agree that we need both Democrats and Republicans serving to keep checks and balances, but Alex Gregor is just not the right person for the job. Actually what this Town needs is less politicians and more businessmen and women. Politicians that have never owned a successful business can't realistically run an organization, and that is what the Town is. Maybe some business people will step up in 2012 and get this Town going in the right direction. Lord knows, we certainly need it!!" Jul 25, 09 10:46 AM

Westhampton Beach man meets Jeter, drives home Yankees car

From one Yankees fan to another, congratulations. I can't wait to see you driving around in it. I'm sure that you will get alot of people honking at you and giving you the Thumbs Up. As the New York Lottery says, "You gotta be in it to win it"!! You owe your wife a nice evening out." Sep 24, 09 6:02 PM

Local brokers skeptical Empire and Alliance will settle

I don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. What I don't understand is that there are not any intelligent attorneys in New York that are smart enough to start a class action lawsuit against both sides. Both sides are putting the 40% of the East End population that have Empire BC/BS in a position where they have to find doctors in Port Jefferson and further west to get any services performed in a hospital for non-emergencies. In addition, the lawsuit could force Empire to lower their premiums to the East End policyholders because they have access to half of the services that they are paying for. Are there any attorneys with the guts to do this? We'll see. " Oct 1, 09 3:39 PM

LaValle calls for State Senate hearing on Empire negotiations

It is rediculous that Sen. LaValle wants to wait until November to hold a hearing. This should be one of the issues that the State Senate Insurance Committee takes up immediately. This issue has been going on with the East End Health Alliance since March or May of this year. The negotiations have gone nowhere and 40% of us that are insured by Empire BC/BS can't use the local hospitals. I find it disgusting that we are paying such high premiums for coverage that we don't have access to. It is time that we united and started a class action lawsuit against both sides to get this resolved. Is there an attorney out here in cyberspace that would be willing to take up the fight? I want to hear from others that feel the same way!!" Oct 3, 09 11:20 AM

Empire and Alliance resume attacks as hospitals remain without contract

It's interesting how Empire is not willing to pay the hospitals a higher reimbursement rate when they say that they will have to raise premiums. Since they can't raise premiums for their East End clients only, because of community rating, the increase would affect every one of their Groups in New York upon renewal. That means that the Groups on the East End of Long Island are paying for the higher reimbursement rates for hospitals west of us even though most of us don't use those hospitals. That's pretty hypocritical of Empire. They should reimburse the East End Hospitals at the same rate as hospitals such as Brookhaven, John T. Mather, Good Samaritan and St. Catherine of Siena. None of those hospitals have specialized services just like our hospitals don't. Empire wants to make changes to their plans effective January 1st, 2010. They have these changes in the NYS Department of Insurance at this time. The Department of Insurance should tell Empire that they will not entertain any changes or rate increase requests until they settle the situation out here. You can call call the Consumers Hotline at the NYS Insurance Department to make your voices heard. The phone numbers are (800)342-3736 or (212)480-6400. Let's take back our healthcare from the profit hoarding insurance carriers!! " Oct 28, 09 12:51 AM

Lt. William Hughes named Republican nominee for vacant Southampton Town Board seat

Based on the article, the best candidate for this position had to step aside before the vote. I wish him the best in getting his situation under control and hope that he is willing to put his name in the hat in 2011." Jan 14, 10 5:00 PM

Suffolk County Republicans are screening candidates early to prepare for Bishop race

Summertime,

Have you been in a coma for the last 12 months. It was our 1st "African American" president that bailed out the banks, GM, Chrysler, AIG Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He printed up more money in his first 6 months in office than it cost to clean up any of the disasters that happened in the world (ex: Exxon Valdez spill). Now he and Tim Bishop want to reform healthcare and give illegal aliens Social Security. That's my hard earned money going to people that should not be in this country, using our hospitals and getting pregnant (making their newborn a US citizen). We need to take back our Country. That means getting rid of the current Democratic monopoly in Congress and the Senate. There should be no schooling or medical care given to anyone that is illegally in our country. Children born of illegals are illegals themselves!! People that are on welfare should be cut off if they can do any kind of work. I don't mind supplementing their wages, but since when do I and other hard working individuals have to pay for the laziness of many people in this country. If people that are able to work were to take the jobs of the illegals, then maybe the illegals wouldn't cross the border. It's time to bring our troops back and have them patrol our borders. Their orders should be to shoot first and ask questions after. This would probably stop or slow down the drugs entering this country and killing our kids. Let the Iraqis and Afgans kill each other. There will never be peace in that area of the world. My diatribe is over. Time to go. " Jan 14, 10 7:04 PM

SHNative,

Tim Bishop still wants to give illegals our Social Security dollars. It's time that he talk to the people and get their feelings on this. He will find that most people agree with me, that illegals should not be allowed to use our schools and hospitals. He would find out that children born of illegals are illegals themselves, not US citizens. Illegals should be deported or should have to get green cards and start paying taxes, just like I do. This is not a right wing view, just the right view." Jan 15, 10 11:55 AM

Hello everyone. I'm back. It is interesting to hear the comments on both sides of the fence that I have built. I'm sure that there are both Republicans and Democrats picking up the illegals to work for them. If you think about it, if there were no illegals on the East End, then these contractors, electricians, HAC people would have to hire Americans that are looking for work. That's a novel idea--hire an American. Enlarging the government and raising taxes is nothing new for Tim Bishop and his Democratic majority in Washington. Neither is handing our Country over to people that don't have a right to be here. If you want to round up the illegals, how about having our troops come home and do it? They are already being paid by the U.S. Government to protect our Country. We now need to protect our Country from within. At one time I was a supporter of our troops being over in Iraq and Afganistan. But I would have dropped an A-bomb after 9/11/01 and warned the rest of the world that if they didn't straighten up, more would come. Then we wouldn't have lost any troops to these people that have no regard for human life. I know, you feel that I fit in to that category with my remarks. But I follow the principle of an "eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". I can't wait to hear from "summertime" and "SHNative" among other wishy washy liberals. And another thing, why don't the newspapers and television networks ever show the good that our troops are doing around the world? The liberal media needs to be removed, jsut like the Democrats in Washington D.C. Bye for now!!" Jan 18, 10 1:00 AM

Lt. William Hughes named Republican nominee for vacant Southampton Town Board seat

I have decided to get back in to this conversation. As far as I am concerned, neither of these candidates has the credentials to sit on the Town Board. In fact, neither do the others that are currently on the Board. None of the current Board Members has any real business acumen. They have never had to hire or fire employees. They have never had to make payroll. They have no idea how to run a business, let alone a Town. Running a Town is like running a large corporation. The Town has the largest payroll. I am sure that it has nepotism as well as political patronage. That would never work in a business. If a person is not qualified to do the job then they would not get hired, regardless of their relationship to the boss. A business is around to make a profit, not help a cousin, uncle, friend, etc... We need to put a businessman or two on the Board in 2011. Hopefully by then, we won't be bankrupt. We also need to get the leaf problem under control, as well as the number of vehicles that this Town has in its possession. I am hoping that this Board, however it consists, will put the people ahead of the personal agendas of each Board Member. Thank you for your time. " Jan 18, 10 1:14 AM

Suffolk County Republicans are screening candidates early to prepare for Bishop race

I said remove the illegals and the trades owners will have to hire non-illegals to help them. " Jan 18, 10 10:58 AM

Eastport jewelry shop makes $1,000 appeal to romantics

This is a beautiful gesture on the part of Todd and Brenda. It would have been nice if the Press had put it in last week's edition since the letter has to be in by Saturday, February 6th and the paper came out on Thursday, February 4th." Feb 5, 10 10:14 AM

Southampton, districts, village and town seek to form purchasing consortium

Finally, every municipality and school district is looking at the best interests of the taxpayer. I don't know if it will help the local businesses because they don't have the buying power of bigger chain stores. But it is worth a shot." Apr 7, 10 12:43 PM

Rechlers pick up demolition permit applications for Canoe Place Inn

It's not the Supervisor's decision as to granting the Rechlers a PDD. It is the Town Board. But, in all fairness, it should be the people of Hampton Bays that have the final vote in a referendum. Why hasn't anyone brought this option up?" Oct 4, 10 12:57 AM

Meeting Scheduled To Discuss Proposed East Quogue Cell Tower

It's very interesting that this "poor reception" situation would suddenly show up when T-Mobile offers the Fire Department money. The citizens were told at an East Quogue Civic Association meeting in the Spring of 2011 that there has been bad radio reception for the last 3 years. The citizens of East Quogue want their volunteer firefighters protected, but it would be nice if the Fire Commissioners would consider allowing the citizens of East Quogue to raise the money to put in a new radio tower, which would not include the need for T-Mobile. But they haven't lsitened to us. Let's hope that there is a large enough turn out on November 4th to put this cell tower issue to rest, once and for all.The representatives for T-Mobile will paint a beautiful picture that there are no health hazards, but they don't know for sure. Do we want out neighbors to be put in possible danger for $2000 per year for 5 years? I don't think so. " Oct 24, 11 5:43 PM

Residents Post Survey To Spur Action By Southampton Town Trustees

It's time for a change. Bring in a new trustee in Scott Horowitz. He is currently on the Conservation Board and has years of experience dealing with the trustees and the DEC. We need a new perspective. Scott Horowitz will be that person." Nov 1, 11 6:51 PM

Fleming, Scalera Win Southampton Board Race; Throne-Holst Reelected

Congratulations to all the Trustee winners this time around. Fred Havemayer and Eric Schultz should enjoy the next 2 years because it will probably be their last as Southampton Trustees. They should expect that they will be without the Republican Line in 2013. Fred will also be without the Conservative Line. Let's see how they do with only the Democratic Line. I hope that selling your souls was worth it. As for Bill Pell, watch your back. You may find yourself without the backing of the Independence Party next time around. Frank McKay may decide to remove you as a leader in the Independence Party in Southampton Town because you gave the "Mad Hatter", Gordon Herr, the go ahead to put Fred and Eric on the Democratic Line. As for Ed Warner and John Semlear, start fundraising now for your next run. You will no longer have the coffers of Mr. Scott Horowitz to pay for your campaigns. Mr. Horowitz was the only real and qualified Republican candidate that actually got out in the public and hit the streets. He was also the only one to raise money. He knew that it was a longshot as the "new guy", but he still was a team player. I can't say that about Ed and John. Mr. Semlear said he didn't want to bring politics into the race and that is why he never went to any Meet the Candidate Nights or debates. How can he not want to get political when he was backed by 4 political parties? He and Mr. Warner should have been out there with Mr. Horowitz on the front line instead of resting on their laurels and figuring that they were entitled to the Trustee position. They were right this time, but we'll see what happens in 2 years when Mr. Horowitz throws his hat in the ring again. Look out everyone.

Now on to the Republican Committee. I am seriously considering changing my political affiliation to a Blank because of the ineptitude of the Republican Party. The leadership is a joke. The fact that they went after the Southampton Project film only made the Democratic ticket stronger. We have become the weaker party because we don't work together. I don't see that changing much as long as some of the old timers still bully the new Chairman. If we want to get stronger, let's remove some committee people that have outlived their usefulness. Some of them have openly stabbed their own candidates in the back while others send out e-mails about subjects that make the Republican Party look like Boss Tweed and Tamany Hall. Everyone should just shut their mouths and work to make the party stronger, instead of sitting on your a**es and doing nothing positive. That's how I feel about Election Day 2011.
