Hospitals and insurer fail to reach agreement; Empire not accepted at East End hospitals

1. The Hospital is still in negotiations with Blue Cross
2. You can still go to the Hospital for emergency care
3. Most doctors are still contracted with Blue Cross until Oct.1
4. Blue Cross is NOT United Health Care (they are parent company of Oxford)
5. If you have the state, county or medicare plan you are unaffected (sorry EH Town)
6. If you need elective surgery you can call Blue Cross and request that it be treated in network if you do not have a facility within a certain mile radius (30 or 50 depending on your plan).
7. Hopefully they will have closure one way or the other by Oct 1

Hope that helps" Aug 6, 09 9:42 AM

Howard Dean comes to East Hampton to discuss health care

The guy is a kook! The orginal goal of helath care reform was to improve care, reduce costs and reduce the number of uninsured's. I think most educated americans agree that these are all noble goals and are in favor of accomplishing them However an independent bi partisan study by the Congressional Budget office shows that all propsed plans so far with a public option will reduce the quality of care and greatly increase the cost of care. They need to go back to the drawing board and get this right. " Aug 6, 09 9:57 AM

East Hampton residents to gather for public option health care vigil tonight

Just a bunch of Kool aid drinkers that have bought into the biggest sales pitch in US history. There is nothing in this bill that will reduce costs in fact it will do the opposite. You can't even begin to have a serious conversation about health care reform until it includes Tort reform. No mention of improved claims processing, universal claims forms.

Medicare is in ruins I cant wait to see how "great" this public option. The GVT needs to stop demonizing evry industry and look in the mirror. 1.5 trillon defict, 10 trillion in debt and ballooning. Right on. Great job
" Sep 2, 09 3:36 PM

No new progress in Empire, Alliance talks

Demonize the auto industry, banks, wall street, and insurance! How about looking in the mirror? A staggering 1.6 trillion dollar defecit and 10 trillion in debt. Mismangaement with OUR money at its best. Our policticians should be the ones on the stand getting grilled. A public otion...I think not. The GVT can not run anything effectively. Its best attempt at socialized medicine (medicare) is a complete financial failure. It will be broke within 10 years and has so many covergage gaps in it that people must buy supplemental plans. Yes, We need health reform but not some 1,100 page takover of our current system by the GVT. we need to find effective ways to help drive down and stop escalating costs. Tort reform would be a good start. How can you have a health care reform bill without even a mention of tort reform. Its like having oreo cookies without milk" Sep 4, 09 12:43 PM

People first you are really drinking the kool aid. Please give me an example of where the GVT has run anything half way as effectively as the private sector. They are operating at 10 trillion dollar in debt! The gvt is so full of waste and mismanagement it makes me want to puke. From East Hampton and southampton towns to NY state, to California and yes the top of the heap the federal GVT " Sep 4, 09 2:50 PM

East Hampton residents rally for health care reform

Who doesn't want health care reform? I think its fair to say most educated americans want to see rates reduced and more people insured. The question is how best to get there? The proposed 1,100 page bill from the house. If you want to solve the problem for 15% of the population and screw the remaining 85% its for you. There has to be a better way." Sep 4, 09 2:56 PM

If you believe it is our moral imperative to cover every single person and want socialized medicine REGARDLESS of the cost than the public option is for you. I believe in personal responsibility and fiscal prudence. Lets enact reform to stop escalating costs, help make coverage more affordable to individuals, and provide subsidies to low income individuals. " Sep 5, 09 8:06 AM

No new progress in Empire, Alliance talks

Nice speech but you never answered the question. Give me an example of ANYTHING the GVT has run that hasnt bleed red ink. Please do not compare the noble services of civil services such as the police and fire department. Thats what the GVT is supposed to do. Not invade the private sector and takeover banks, insurance, and car companies. " Sep 5, 09 8:13 AM

lulu belle you forgot to mention that the civil services (police, coast guard ect) that you claim are free are actually paid for by taxes. It is not free and I pay my fare share. Judging from your opinions I take it you are not a business owner. The GVT constantly rapes the private sector to pay for its services. Some good some bad" Sep 5, 09 9:37 AM

I take it you both are either liberal democrats or are not in the private sector. Both of these people seem to want to save the world regardless of cost. I predict the public option will die in the senate when coller heads will prevail .Bottom line is Medicare and SS will be bankrupt before I reach that age or we will be back to Jimmy Carter days of 70% top tax rate to pay for all of this crap.
FYI I cant take anything lulu says seriuosly after quoting barney frank" Sep 5, 09 2:14 PM

Supervisor: East Hampton tax hike is certain

shocker. Another GVT official mismanaging our tax payer dollars. EH, NY Federal GVT bleeding red ink." Sep 5, 09 3:03 PM

No new progress in Empire, Alliance talks

Dag, Personally I do not believe in GVT dependency and I loath big GVT BUT I do respect your answer. It is the only one that makes sense to me. As a small business owner medical coverage is tough for you. You may want to look in Oxford or HIP sole proprieter plans, Healthy NY (if you can qualify) or Blue Cross Tradition Plus (that is if these guys work out a deal). Premiums range from 100-400 a month." Sep 6, 09 7:24 AM

East Hampton residents rally for health care reform

uirudesu.....wow are u kidding???" Sep 6, 09 3:57 PM

wackos? Are you blind to GVT fraud, waste and mismanagement? I can buy the theory you feel we need it because it is morally the right thing to do REGARDLESS of cost but fiscally responsible....please. 1.6 trillion defecit and 10 trillion in debt..enough said. " Sep 6, 09 5:32 PM

1. I also heard the stat about having to file personal bankruptcy even if you have health Insurance. This is very misleading. If are sick and can't work then you cant pay the bills unless you have disability Ins. Most people do not have this. Maybe we can get the GVT to pay for that too.
2. To say we need the public option to keep insurance companies "honest" implies that the companies are in collusion or you do not believe in free market capitalism. We need to get to the root of the problem which is the cost of care. If we can reduce the cost of care then premiums should reduce through competion. This along with subsidies should decrease the number of uninsred. " Sep 7, 09 8:50 PM

Health care reform march held in Sag Harbor

In NY state if you have health ins the company can NOT drop you for prexisting AND you can not be denied obtaining coverage if you have a prexisting condition. What they can do is deny coverage for most prexisting conditions for 1 year if you have had no coverage within the past 60 days. The reason for this rule is no one would get coverage until they get sick. Pretty fair I think.
Again the GVT has painted yet another part of the private sector, the Ins companies as the demons. Lets get to the root of the problem...cost of care. That should be addressed first. What reform can we put in place to help reduce the cost of care. " Sep 7, 09 9:02 PM

People first- You are a lost cause.
1. It is true that if you do not continue coverage under cobra or NY state continuation or you have not have had coverage within the last 63 days that the insurance conmpanies will deny coverage. The reason IS no one would pay for coverage until they got sick. It is your responsibility to get the coverage. To help unemployed Obama put into effect a plan to have the GVT pay for 65% of your cobra premium for 9 month if you were termed from employment involuntarily.
2. I am not sure where you got the info about United health denial of claims but you have checks and balances with insurance. An insurance company denies a claim (as does medicare from time to time) and you can appeal to the NY state insurance department. Who can I appeal to when the GVT denies a claim a GVT run advisory board?
3 Yes insurance companies do exist to make a profit. To make a profit they need to offer the best product at the best price. we need find ways to lower the cost of care and hopefully the free market will take care of the rest.
4. 10,000 physicians are protesting in washington today. They want to improved claims procedures, medical malpractice reform, better representation on helath care reform and yes insurance reform. I am very curious to hear there ideas because we need all of these things NOT health care run by the GVT" Sep 8, 09 11:01 AM

East Hampton Village scrutinizes roundabout plans

Its desperatly needed. That is a very dangerous intersection. Question is where can we get the money to do it. " Sep 8, 09 11:11 AM

Health care reform march held in Sag Harbor

You have way to much free time on you hands. I'm sure you could pull up tons of right wing or left wing artilces that will tell you a different story depending on what point of view you want to take. I am not necessarliy against a single payor system as long as the GVT doesn't run it. Problem with a single payor is now you need to FORCE everyone to buy it just like car insurance. Again the root of the problm is COST of Care. " Sep 8, 09 12:39 PM

doc,
I like it...I disagre but an intelligent response.
1. I agree we need health care reform. I feel most people do. I would like to point out that Meidcare and Medicaid are lowering reimbursement which is causing doctors to drop then as well. II believe that is true that we need a universal claim form and increased underwriting procedures to help reduce administrative expenses.
2. I am sorry to hear about your mother in law. I do not about texas state laws but that can not happen in NY. They should try and adopt rules that apply on the federal and not state level
3. Medicare and Medicaid are in near bankruptcy. No matter who runs it the GVT or Insurance some one has to pay for it. I am for the bucket option as long as it doesn't include a public option. I have more confidence in the free market to keep costs down and help improve innovation the GVT which can be a stagnant bereaucratic mess.
4. insurance companies waste about 90 billion a year in health care administration? I'm at a loss on that one. How much money does the GVT waste a year. We are operating at a 1.6 TRILLION dollar defecit and 10 TRIllion in debt. I wouldnt call thateffecient would you?" Sep 8, 09 1:00 PM

peoplefirst are you really Tim Bishop who says lets have an honest debate which equates to if you don't like my view I'm going to piss and moan like a little girl. What is it you far lefties say... Dissent is patriotic. Dissent is only patriotic to you if I agree with your agenda. At least Doc4 reform had some valid points. Again I AM for reform but I do not believe a GVT run plan must be included. " Sep 8, 09 2:45 PM

Bostwicks will close this fall

I don't know about the "greed" in East Hampton from the the Mendelmans. They are local people who own the property and have the right to do with it as they please. Boswicks was a great place. It will be missed." Sep 8, 09 3:43 PM

No new settlements in Empire and Alliance negotiations

Tax and spend tax and spend. Waste waste waste. Tax cuts help stimulate the economy. How much do you want to gouge the rich for. They already pay way more than their fair share for all the social service programs, waste and inefficiencies our GVT provides. In addition I truly believe the 1 trillion number is ridiculous low. They throw "projections" out there like they have a clue how this 1,100 page bill will play out. What a bunch of clowns" Sep 9, 09 9:40 AM

Waiting game continues for McGintee

board watcher..agreed. Newsday recently printed an article listing EH town as the worst town fiscally in all of NY state. How can you screw up the budget on a town with our type of revenues. How can Hempstead, Mastic, Wyndanch or Coram be better than us. Its disgraceful?" Sep 9, 09 9:47 AM

I thought the speech was great although I understood the concerns. I believe there were concerns over the content and the speech may have even been tweaked due to the uproar. If they looked at the prespeech content they may have hung him" Sep 9, 09 11:26 AM
