Congressman Bishop prepares for difficult race but remains hopeful for outcome

Thought I had answered your question? Guess you don't feel there is any entitlement provisions with in the health care bill" Apr 11, 10 11:26 AM

This is my last reply to you frankly because our conversation is pointless. I will diregard your comment about me not having to pay the 1000 a year to cover uninsureds any longer because it is ridiculous and stick with the original question. Your orginal question was give me an example of an entitlement plan and how it was on the backs of the working class. My reply was health care. As to cost to the working class, throw out all the left and right propoganda for a secound and use comon sense. If you add 30 million more uninsured into a system (most of who need to be subsidized), do litlle to contain the increase cost of coverage, close the donut hole, cover all prexisting conditions regardless of insured status, tax and increase regualtion on health care companies and do nothing for tort reform do you actually think health care costs will go down. The GVT has set such terrible examples with Medicare and Medicaid I dod not know why they fell it wise to double down on this." Apr 11, 10 2:03 PM

Or what? What are you gonna do??" Apr 11, 10 7:43 PM

Guess you don't understand common sense. Do you really think people making over 250 k will pay for all of this. How about the increased payroll tax? How about the cadaliac tax? How about the increased taxes to employers? Don't you think that will indirectly affect the working class? FYI to say Medicaid operates at 30% less than private insurance. Medicaid and Medicare are losing billions every year and adding to the debt. You can not compare the private and public sector because the private sector would have had to follow bankruptcy long ago. I have also seen the 44k number. That study was done by a professor who supported universal coverage. Every person legal or not is guaranteed coverage in the country. " Apr 11, 10 7:55 PM

yea what facts. Most of the founding father favored an agarian society. The founding fathers were not in favor of GVT having such a stranglehold over people lives. The industrial revolution hadnt yet occurred so its highly unlikely they forsaw the extent of corporate influence AND state GVT was still more promenient. Federal powers did not become more pronounced until after the civil war" Apr 11, 10 9:14 PM

Individual mandate. Effective Jan 1, 2014 all US citiznens and legal residents MUST have health insurance coverage OR PAY A PENALTY. The penalty will be phased in according to the following schedule:
1. in 2014 the GREATER of 95$ or 1%
2. In 2015 the GREATER of 325 or 2% of taxable income
3. In 2016 the greater of 695 or 2.5% of taxable income. After 2016 the penalty will be INDEXED for INFLATION (meaning it will go up)

One could argue as I do that the penalty is not high enough. If the insurance companies need to cover presxisting condition why not just pay the penalty and obtain coverage when you get sick. There are so many problems with this bill and only time will tell how it will play out. Also cant wait to see if they will now deny illegals covergage seeing they are not mandated. I'm sure they will still be getting the coverage for free." Apr 12, 10 9:26 AM

again you are wrong" Apr 12, 10 9:32 AM

The language written in the bill is "semantics" ? You keep using phrases like "the GVT will pay to get you insurance" "it will be no more than you can afford" and the GVT will still pay for your insurance with the same affordable contribution from you" The Gvt is the people. So you might as well say other people will pay to get you insurance and "semantics" might say that is an entitlement" Apr 12, 10 10:39 AM

Kinda sounds like the system we have now doesnt it except there is no mandate. Only difference is the word free coverage. In Ny state people can BUY inexpensive insurance (@225 per month) wilth state subsidies. People with No coverage are guranteed covergae through Medicaid." Apr 12, 10 10:43 AM

This bill expands medicaid. Gov paterson has already gone on record as saying this bill will cost Ny billions of dollars. Money that we don't have. " Apr 12, 10 12:09 PM

does BIG GVT work? How much money is the GVT Losing annually running medicare and medicaid. For the life of me I don't understand why you "lefties" are defending big Gvt. " Apr 13, 10 10:16 AM

teabaggers...blah blah blah....neocons.....blah blah blah....Sarah Palin...blah blah blah" Apr 13, 10 10:17 AM

Native that is complete and utter nonsense. in fact you could argue just the reverse. The gvt is the watch dog over insurance. Between lawyers, state insurance department, and regulations you will have recourse. With the gvt their is no watchdog" Apr 13, 10 12:00 PM

BigFresh Trust me I am no fan of ObummaCare and I agree their is way to much GVT control over private business but I do not think your statement is entirely true. My understanding is that groups under 50 employees are not subject to the mandate (that was in the orginal house bill). The language reads Effective Jan1,2014 employers with 50 or more employees who do not provide health insurance to full time employees will face a 2000 per FTE penalty. I don't want to bore you with the rest but it then talks about free choice vouchers and qualified employee contribution mandates. Bottom line is this bill does NOTHING to reduce the cost of coverage for those us who have it. You can not reduce the cost of coverage until you reduce the cost of care " Apr 14, 10 10:27 AM

Year rounder I don't believe he used the word takeover but control. In my opinion whats the difference. If I can control you why not just take you over. FYI Thats exactly what this administration wanted to do until the Scott Brown victory." Apr 14, 10 10:34 AM

Big Fresh I forgot to add that even though Employers under 50 are not subject to the mandate the employees themselves are. The GVt has just shifted the responsibility. " Apr 14, 10 11:20 AM

Yearrounder we go back to the same argument. You are thinking like a freeloader who doesnt pay taxes. Insurance comapnies make a profit. The GVT losses billions each year in Medicare/Medicaid and has trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities. Thats called typical GVT waste and mismangement which will lead to higher taxes. For those of us that DO pay taxes thats more money out of our pockets. " Apr 14, 10 12:30 PM

" I would gladly pay an increase in taxes of a few hundred a year to save a few thousand" I hope you are not self employed as an accoutant. You do understand that Medicare LOSES Billions each year and is underfunded by TRILIIONS of dollars. Your self employed status is unfortunate but I would like to remind you that the GVT yes the GVT created that problem with the NY state community rated law in 1992. Blame them." Apr 14, 10 1:50 PM

East Hampton Library budget vote this Saturday

Congressman Bishop prepares for difficult race but remains hopeful for outcome

Thanks for your input FCM. If believeing in personal and fiscal responsiblity is your definition of a far right wacko then I am guilty as charged. Just out of curiousity what would you consider yourself then?" Apr 15, 10 2:52 PM

Healthcare law to sock middle class with a 3.9 billion tax increase in 2019--
Taxpayers earning less than 200,000 will pay roughly 3.9 billion more in taxes-in 2019 alone- due to health care reform according to the joint commitee of taxation, congress'e official scorekeeper.
The new law raises 15.2 billion over 10 years by limiting the medical expense deduction (the 7.5% of AGI#), a proviision widely used by taxpayers with a seriuous illness or are older. JCT estimates the deduction limitation will affect 14.8 million taxpayers-14.7 million will earn less that 200K" Apr 16, 10 3:22 PM

Local Tea Party movement holds two rallies on Tax Day

Laughable comment. Even REAL liberals agree this bill stinks. Stop drinking the kool aid" Apr 25, 10 9:49 AM

I love all these libs who scream tax the rich. They are paying most of the taxes in this country already. " Apr 25, 10 9:51 AM

shnative I don't think you get the movement. I am not involved with the movement but can appreciate their ideas and points of views. Their demonstrations have been far more peaceful than the libs during the Iraq. Last time I checked we are still there but I don't see the protesters anymore. Hmm wonder why??" Apr 25, 10 12:48 PM

I know it very difficult for most liberals to comprehend but the true tea party movement is not about Iraq, insurance companies, Bush or even republicans. They are about personnal and fiscal responsiblity. " Apr 25, 10 1:06 PM

What are you babbling about? I said I am NOT part of the tea party movement. But if I had to chose between their beliefs or yours it's a no brainer. I find most tea part people are educated, work hard, believe in family values and are sick of big gvt" Apr 25, 10 1:51 PM

Yes and the amazing thing about the progressive movement is that most of them are getting GVT benefits from the taxes that the tea party members are paying. I firmly believe the further expansion of GVT and addition of another entitlement (Health care) was the last straw for these people.
FYI your comment about militant wing is insane. I know many people who are independent and/or dems who support ideals of the tea party people. What happened to dissent is patriotic. If anything your views sound a little militant. " Apr 26, 10 10:21 AM

Local Tea Party movement holds two rallies on Tax Day

Cowee you wanted some ideas well here you go
1. flat tax coupled with a consumption tax. that way EVERYONE pays their fair share based on income.
2. GVT stops its irresponsible spending and MUST maintain a balanced budget with limited exceptions.
3. All illegal non US citizen freeloaders must go and anyone caught hiring them must pay heavy fines as a deterent.
4. Gvt officials act on behalf of their contituents and not their party" Apr 28, 10 3:24 PM

cowee you are ranting all over the place. Let's stick to one thing at a time. Flat tax coupled with consumption. I never said it reduce taxes. The principal is everyone pays their fair share. Their are many people in this country that pay no taxes yet reap tons of benefits. Why does 20% of the population pay 80% of the taxes. It is no secret that due to the past 2 adminstrations spending we will have to raise taxes. It's either that or face the eventual fate of Greece." Apr 28, 10 5:12 PM

odd how you are completely in favor of #2 and 4 yet so against the tea party movement. " Apr 28, 10 6:27 PM

regardless of a flat tax or our current tax structure the GVT will have to raise taxes to pay for our escalating debt. The addition of yet another entitlement (health care) does not help the situation. Personnally I am in favor of many of the tea party ideals. Personal, fiscal responsibilty and believing in the free markets. I dont understand the anger in letting people voice their opinion. Dissent is Patriotic right?
As for MY ideas to reduce debt 1. examine the defense budget with a fine tooth comb 2. No More pork spending period 3. Eliminate medicare and provide subsidies for medicare advantage plans only. 4. Set time limits on unemployment benefts to get people back to work. 5. If you are not here legally you are not entitled to a thing from the Gvt. " Apr 29, 10 6:39 PM

I am not a member of the tea party movement but most tea party people are for free market . In regards to the Arizona legislation they are not legal citizens and are reaping benefits from legal tax paying citizens. In my personnal opinion these people have no rights. They are here illegally" Apr 30, 10 10:26 AM

Capt America is right on. Point is the Arizona "show me your papers" legislation is following federal guidelines that we do NOT enforce. Seeing 70 % of the population favor it Obama should step to the plate and endorse it. If he can ram through something most people dont want like the health care reform bill why not something most people seem to agree on." Apr 30, 10 2:01 PM

Local Tea Party movement holds two rallies on Tax Day

It has nothing to do with bigotry or race if you are in this country ILLEGALLY and receiving free entitlements off of taxpayer dollars you should be thrown out. FYI key components of the Arizona law are already Federal law so how can they deem it unconstitutional. Read Capt americas previous post he is right on. Please excercise other parts of your brain and get off the kool aid" Apr 30, 10 4:47 PM

racial profiling give me a break. if you can't speak the English language and are hanging out with day laborers use your brain and carry ID. As for preaching humanity the day you loonatic lefties stop killing unborn babies then I'll start listening. What a bunch of hypocrites" Apr 30, 10 6:56 PM

Rally held to support push for federal immigration reform

All the libs are screaming you can't deport them well how about banning them from ANY entitlements. Also Heavily fine any employer who is caught hiring them. With no free stuff and no jobs you won't need to deport then they will leave. We can even provide them with a free bus pass." May 5, 10 7:53 PM

do your own research and READ the federal laws regarding immigration. They are not enforcing them. If the ARizona bill is repealed it is due to language in the fed bill limiting state power to enforce federal law" May 7, 10 9:36 PM

LOL when the facts hit you in the face you blame bush" May 10, 10 11:16 AM

Please refer to the FEDERAL LAW title 8 chapter 12 subchapter II part IX item 1357. Enforce the LAW and legally deport them or find a away get rid of them. They are like leaches feeding off of free entitlements. " May 10, 10 11:26 AM

no more so called facts from media matters.org. It appears you actually found the federal law " May 10, 10 11:27 AM

I would ENFORCE the LAW. Just because you don't like the LAW its not my fault. Personnally I think stiff penalties for employers hiring them, elimination of any entitlement plans (schooling, medical care and financial assistance ect) and proof of legal US status is a good start. There are many good hard working latinos here legally. This is not about them." May 10, 10 12:16 PM

again get off of the left wing web site and read the law" May 10, 10 12:47 PM

Please dont change the topic and stick to your orginal point which is You said per mediamatters.org so called "facts" that Arizona law is NOT mirrioring federal law. Your so called fact are untrue. Please check the lawfor yourself.
In regards to your second comment about costs to deport.
1. How much does it costs taxpayers for them to be here?
2. Are you saying because it costs 94 billion we should allow them to break the law?
3. Deportion is just one of many ideas including providing no more entitlements and fining employers heavily for hiring them.

You can provide them with free bus transportation home when they run out of work and free stuff " May 10, 10 2:17 PM

Ok phil just this one time. TRY reading the law itself. I'm sure you can google it. Its Title 8 chapter 12 subchapter 11 part IX item 1357. Spells it out. federal GVT is NOT enforcing there own law.
