Judge Puts Off Airport Ruling Three More Weeks, Restrictions Will Remain On Hold

The town board has pushed the recreational aviation community toward the helicopter groups by USING AIRPORT FUNDS TO DEFEND THEIR NOISE RESTRICTIONS. These funds are needed to maintain a safe airport. We have asked the town board to re pave runway 04-22 (too short for jets). Install the AWOS system (weather reporting). Finish the parallel taxiway. Cut the trees to restore the instrument approaches to their original design. Follow the APPROVED airport master plan. Why has there been virtually no progress?" Jun 4, 15 10:19 AM

Actually the new AWOS system will reduce noise. The number of missed approaches will go down as pilots are able to use local weather information rather than weather data from Westhampton to make decisions about flying into East Hampton. A missed approach includes a low pass and a full throttle departure. A missed approach would also typically include an approach and landing at Westhampton. As for noise, I don't believe a helicopter using the correct route and altitude defined in the noise abatement guidelines generates too much noise. I live near the flight path which passes north of North Haven. " Jun 4, 15 1:54 PM

I agree we should get back to the way things were. Re pave runway 04-22. Cut the trees that interfere with the instrument approaches. However I'm not so sure we need to restore the scheduled commercial helicopter and airplane service that the airport had for decades.......I'd be happy to send you Montauk Caribbean's schedule from 1979. East Hampton Town To Spend $1 Million On Airport Legal Fight In 2015 Alone

The traffic problem in the Hamptons has become unbearable. Routine waits of an hour from the Westhampton exit on the sunrise to Southampton. We are asking the towns of Southampton and East Hampton to institute 4 common sense regulations to address the issue. First, a mandatory curfew. 1) No vehicular traffic between the hours of 11pm and 7am. 2) One round trip per week for all vehicles with a gross weight of more than 6000 lbs. Vehicles weighing more than 6000 lbs. get poor gas mileage and pollute the air with their gas guzzling engines. 3) An outright ban on commercial vehicles from may 1st to September 30th. Construction work should occur only from October 1st to April 30th. 4) Extended curfew of 9am to 7pm on vehicles with a gross weight of more than 6000 lbs. These common sense ideas will help reduce traffic volumes and reduce noise for those who live near roads. How will we enforce the rules? Cameras will be installed at the Shinnecock canal to monitor vehicle types. As for funding the inevitable lawsuits from construction companies and commercial vehicle operators such as the Hampton Jitney, we will institute a plate pass system (toll, like you see in the roads in Florida) at the Shinnecock canal. Cars will be charged $5, vehicles with a gross weight of more than 6000 lbs. $10 and buses or large trucks $25. There will also be a noise surcharge for noisy motorcycles, contractors with loud lawn maintenance equipment and cars with modified mufflers. These common sense ideas will encourage the use of quite technologies such as bicycles and walking with the added benefit of improved health thru all the exercise. Please complain every time you see a vehicle you don't approve of as we need to show the town boards how important this issue is to us. Please join the quiet roads coalition." Oct 26, 15 7:22 PM
