Westhampton Beach suggests land swap with Habitat for Humanity

The fact that you believe the village spends 8 million dollars on its police budget is just shear ignorance; more like less than 2 million. As for you comment about our police chief, the village has never had such a hardworker. We all should be proud to have him; he deserves every penny he makes (mind you, all chiefs of neighboring departments, quogue included, make almost identical salaries). Just to prove my point- since I like facts, not speculation- take a look at an article dated back in July of this summer (something about a car accident on Main Street). You'll see a gentleman in the picture questioning a driver; the gentleman is none other than Chief Ray Dean. Now for anyone who has the vaugest idea of police structure you know that it is an rarity for a chief to respond to a call (they're usually tied up on administrative duties, which is more prominent in WHB due to the insubordination of half the department), but he was picking up the slack of some officers probably out sick or something. The fact of the matter is we need as many fresh new officers as we can get. The department is riddled with corruption stemming from officers who have been employed the longest. It's time to send these fogies on their way on make room for a clean department." Oct 6, 08 11:10 AM

Four will vie for two seats on Westhampton Beach board

"sjd"

Your spelling errors and your blithe lack of knowledge as to village affairs are a testament to your ignorance. Please do not comment on matters which you obviously know little about; the fact that you would comment on Annona overlooking a car dealership while trying to portray it as some kind of scandal, is just pure idiocy. Has that even been an issue?

And to comment on your statement that “facts are facts”, well, yes they are.

Hey Resident,

I found these articles quite interesting: http://www.law.com/jsp/article.jsp?id=1202422941503 (“N.Y. Court Defines Test for Obtaining Identities Behind Online Posts”) and http://www.citmedialaw.org/threats/ottinger-v-journal-news (“Ottinger v. The Journal News”); Dean Spier of “On the Beach Blog” briefly commented on the case back in July of 2008. Since you find it necessary to air some pretty bold accusations on a message board, you may want to take a look. You see, these disguised commenters (that’s funny because that’s what you are) wrote false and slanderous remarks about former Congressman Richard Ottinger on a webpage very similar to this one. When these libelous comments were brought to the attention of Mr. Ottinger, a defamation suit was brought forth against the fictitiously named defendants (“SAVE10543”, “hadenough”, and “aoxomoxoa”); those names aren’t as catchy as “Resident” though. While you may claim your first amendment right, just know that your rights end when you begin making false and potentially damaging comments. Perhaps you should provide some solid evidence to backup that pathetic attempt to slam the chief. I mean come on, I would hope that as “counsel for the Westhampton Village PBA” this gentleman would be a wee bit more polished in the realm of grammar and legalese; that thing read about as smoothly as a 1st grade book report.

Perhaps instead of slinging fictitious muck and hiding under a cloak of cowardice, you could provide a constructive comment to this message board. After all, this article’s intent is to inform readers about the candidates running for Westhampton Beach Village trustee.

Board rescinds motion but still targeting Westhampton Beach Village police chief

sjd,

Man, you never seem to quit; and the sad thing is that your comments continue to make no sense.

I pay taxes in the village just like you do (or maybe you don't), and you don't see me crying; mind you, I’ve only met Ray Dean in passing. The chief makes what he makes, get over it. You aren't letting reality set in. Dean's salary is comparable to those of other east end chiefs, including that of Quogue Police Chief Robert Coughlan. If you weeded through the tabloid garbage Newsday was feeding you, you'd see that there are, in fact, police chiefs out here that actually make more than Dean; I believe Riverhead Chief Hagermiller's base was over $154,000. The fact that anyone would take this garbage Newsday published to the bank is embarrassing; I maintain that Newsday caters to those who lack reading skills above a 6th grade level.

And to look at a hypothetical, even if the Chief was ousted, it would be against civil service law to pay his replacement a penny less than what he currently makes. I mean it's all there in black and white; maybe you're just too thick to process the facts (yes, they are facts), or maybe you just don't want to (I wonder how that Levan/Tucker kool-aid tastes). Either way, you are embarrassingly misinformed.

Your Pal,

Woody

Four candidates are seeking two open seats in Westhampton Beach election

Publius,

Desperation is a stinky cologne.

Your comment as to trustee hopeful Arrasate’s disability is comical. There is a fine line between going to work each day with a gun attached to your hip and performing the duties of a village trustee. Frank Wheeler has already made the connection, but you may want to familiarize yourself with H.W.’s Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Man, so what’s next? I mean, with the path you’re travelling now, you’ll be calling him a butthead in no time. But if I was in your position I’d be throwing out everything in the playbook too. When in doubt, discriminate and make ridiculous accusations!!!

And remember “Publius”: Ottinger, Ottinger, Ottinger……
