LIRR Could Start Offering Additional South Fork Service Within Two Years

More trains would help! But forget about buses between the train stations and downtowns. Who would use those? Instead, spend the money on adding tons of parking at the east end train stations. I go into the city from Southampton at least once a week. Because of the horrible LIRR schedule and the expensive & unreliable taxi services (to get to the train station), I usually drive into the city or I drive to Patchogue, which has good parking and frequent trains." Thiele Proposes New Real Estate Transfer Tax To Aid First-Time Homebuyers

If we want to use tax money to subsidize affordable housing, it should be done through a broad-based tax. Putting the entire burden on a small number of tax payers is good for politicians, but unfair to taxpayers. I feel the same way about the CPF." Feb 1, 18 4:01 PM

Thiele Includes $500,000 In State Budget For South Fork Trains

Why in world would the towns spend money on buses, taxes, and Uber cars? Sure, a few more trains would help, but the real problem is that there's no parking at the train stations. Everyone who would commute via train from Southampton or East Hampton already has a car, they just need a place to park it!" Mar 22, 18 12:48 PM

Southampton Town Board Looks At Spending $4 Million In CPF Money To Preserve Sag Harbor Cinema

Possibly well intentioned, but incredibly misguided. As other have said, the CPF is for preserving open space, not for funding whatever project some politician thinks will buy votes. If the people of the Town of Southampton are being asked to pay to preserve the Sag Harbor Cinema, we should be allowed to vote on it. And if we vote yes, we should have our taxes raised to fund it, or better yet, we should tell the town officials to cut something else." Oct 4, 18 12:45 PM

State Looks To Designate Funds For Expansion Of The LIRR Montauk Branch

What a waste of money! I live in Southampton, and I often travel to the city. I'd love to take the LIRR from Southampton, but I can't because there is virtually no usable parking anywhere near the train station.

Fix this first, and then worry about train tracks and schedules." Apr 18, 19 3:36 PM
