Obama's speech to students will be shown at EH Middle School after uproar

Does anyone remember where President Bush was when the first plane hit the tower?

Ad calls GOP candidate's personal finances into question

When someone is campaigning to fix our finances, and his own personal finaces are questionable, the voters deserve a detailed explaination. You four may be simplistic enough to vote for anyone with a "R" next to their name, but I'm not willing to take a chance and put another possibly unqualified person in charge of MY TOWN! I'm waiting to see the response." Oct 15, 09 9:37 AM

Voting the party line is easy. That's a large part of the reason we are in this mess. It takes effort to vote the person." Oct 16, 09 3:12 PM

Where is the "beat the IRS" info comming from? I haven't seen it anywhere but here. I've been in business for 20+ years and never had to deal with a lien, let alone one from the IRS. We deserve an explaination. The talking heads who claim "I hear that" are not the ones with the answer, only Stanzione has it." Oct 19, 09 11:10 AM

Testy testy" Oct 19, 09 4:50 PM

You'll have to ask the building dept. how that happened. As far as Stanzione, he has now shown that he is clear, and I feel much better about him. It was disappointing to see the lein, but it was a legitimate question. You don't know who my candidate is because I always split my ticket, unlike the party parrots who run this town. The best thing that could happen is to get rid of national parties on local level politics, then we could truely have the best people running. D's & R's are ruining us. It doesn't matter who you are or where you came from, it's the letter that follows your name. " Oct 22, 09 12:32 PM

East Hampton Village code amended to allow taller "deer fences"

Unfortunalty, all this deer fencing only pushes them on to the roadsides. I believe that that what appears to be a dramatic increase in the herd is mostly a reduction in roaming space. I have lived here since birth, 54 years ago, and have never hit a deer until this year. My wife and I have hit 3 between us. I say ban the fencing and let them roam. " Oct 23, 09 9:39 AM

Supporters gather for brothers facing fishing charges

Unfortunately for the Lesters, the waters that provide the catch they are accused of poaching are not regulated by the Trustees, unless they were caught inside the town harbors or creeks. I find this unlikely. Also, Officer Lester's

In drowning aftermath, residents push for better beach protection

This area of Amagansett has gone to great lengths to to privatize the public beaches in front of their homes. They have been able to convince the previous administration to install a no parking zone throughout the entire neighborhood and limit the use of vehicles on those beaches. Now they expect to have the town provide them with what would be private lifeguard service. And this is a few weeks after a story about them wanting to post guards at their boardwalks to prevent "outsiders" from accessing the beaches. I say we consider lifeguards only after they show that they can be good neighbors to the rest of us taxpayers." Aug 26, 10 7:42 AM

East Hampton High School pushes for better performance in mathematics

Becky, the new board members just took office July 1. What the hell have they done to attract suck an accusation. Obviously you must be one of those sport coaches and must be concerned. The East Hampton School District has been sports centric for far too many years. Perhaps if they had been interested in academics we would not have to be spending additional money to bring in consultants. This administrative culture is in for a rude awakening. I applaud the the new board members. They won their positions precisely because things have gotten so out of control. The adminitration needs to understand that they work for the taxpayers and the education of OUR children comes first! Gualtieri better wake up before the public demands to investgate his dealings." Bid To Bag Leaf Pickup

If the town was truly "broke" would they have cut taxes? So many fools have fallen for the political B.S. set in front of them. East Hampton residents don't mind paying taxes for services and land preservation. We are now seeing that play out. " Oct 15, 10 9:17 AM

Judge Orders That 161 Ballots Be Counted, Prepares Ruling On 1st District Race

48 votes won't change the tide of this election. It's not news worthy as far as this story goes. One person out of tens of thousands may have voted twice? I'm surprised it's not more. And the only reason we hear this is because this election is being so scrutinized. I'm sure there are many more across the country, from both parties. I can also guarantee dead people voted. Memo To East Hampton Town Employees Raises Concerns

Disappoinment,

I disagree with your assessment of the duo. When you can't rely on your own intelligence, you resort to bully tactics. These two aren't smart enough to see that every time they try to help those special friends, it only blows up in their faces. This is small town stuff, not corporate. It's the stakeholders that are getting screwed each time." Mar 9, 11 1:57 PM

We'll see how it goes. They have managed to piss-off every hamlet except Wainscott and I'm sure that will come soon. You can't go after town employees for doing their jobs according to town Code and than demand respect. This is an administration that reminds me of the good ole boy system we had in the 60's. Give to the GOP and pick your prize!" Mar 10, 11 9:41 PM

Obviously you need to step outside your small circle of friends. The fisherman(sell docks, fisheries rep), seniors (service cuts, leaf pick-up), second homeowners/amagansett residents (7-11, concert), springs residents (apartments), village residents(taxes on town projects), environmentalists (nature center, Grimes dredging) and now the Town employees! One was a running mate! Doesn't leave much support come election time by my view." Mar 11, 11 7:19 AM

McGintee, McGintee, McGintee! I'm so tired of hearing everything being blamed on him. This administration needs to own up to the mistakes THEY have been making. You can't blame everything on the "budget crisis" created by the previous administration! This is about political favors and nothing more. Instilling fear in the town employees and make sure they issue permits to the connected, no questions asked. In this atmosphere, if a trained professional does their job by the book, and the wrong person is denied what they want, it can cost a valuable employee their job. They work for the taxpayers and are payed to follow the town codes, not the desire of the town board of the day. Without the employees doing their job, there is no consistency in government.

formertbm, if town employees are so bad, why did you do nothing about them when you were a board member? " Mar 11, 11 9:32 PM

I've said enough and stand by my observations. Beverly and Bambi can huff all you want and it won't change the reality of the situation." Mar 12, 11 10:43 AM

Wrong person. I would never give up my home in E.H. Once you're out it's hard to get back in. It's too valuable. Land preservation makes the supply and demand certainly worth the ownership." Mar 12, 11 5:01 PM

Mr. Abrams?" Mar 14, 11 6:58 AM

One other thing that Brookhaven and Islip have that E.H. doesn't. A rather long history of graft. I'm sure it has nothing to do with departmnts being run by political appointees." Mar 15, 11 7:40 AM

Believe it or not, I agree with Boardwatcher. There was a personal reason for him to leave his position and I for one commend him for his decision. Let's not go there Brown, OK." Mar 19, 11 2:06 PM

MTK Festival Cancelled Due To Low Ticket Sales

It started with the silly plan of hosting the show on Montauk Hwy, east of Amagansett village, cutting off Montauk from the rest of the world in the middle of August! Springs Resident Calls For East Hampton Councilwoman Theresa Quigley To Resign In Wake Of "Nazis" Comment

If you or Gaines lived in one of these neighborhoods you would see that this is not about illegal immigrants. It's about people who bought or rented houses they can't afford and offset there costs by subletting. Some are in it only for the extra income. One house in my neighborhood was built in 1987 by the current owner who has never lived in it. This has been consistently been occupied by tenants who sublet. How do I know the owner has never lived in it? Because she calls every-time she needs a new tenant!
The house on the corner was bought ten years ago and the owner soon moved people into the basement, with a sliding door entrance, and while he lives on the main floor, another family lives on the second floor. Instant 3 family home! And guess what, they recently started putting in a cesspool without permits! I know because I reported it and this was confirmed.
There are at least ten other examples like this in my little sub-division in Springs. When I walk my dog I have to deal with visitors speeding up and down the cul-de-sacs and main road. Empty cans, bottles and used condoms on the street. Strange cars idling in the middle of the night in front of my house.
I challenge you or Gaines to rent or buy in my neighborhood in Springs and retain the opinion you have on what we live with.

Protesters Gather In East Hampton Village To Oppose Deer Culling

When the deer are gone ticks will find another host! Will you then want to wipe out the replacement host? Your cats and dogs maybe? At some point, people will become the choice host for the ticks. Yum yum." Jan 20, 14 9:33 AM

The politicians have not done the proper research to proceed with such a radical plan. East Hampton's Town Board contracted a count that showed 800 plus deer in town! Though that number may not be accurate, the information at hand does not seem to require a cull. They need to do the proper research before risking a cull that may bring the numbers down below sustainability of the herd.
