Southampton Village Planning Commission prepares for consultants

Are you kidding me? The streets are empty, can't anybody find something better to do with the money. Less traffic. You don't need anybody to advise on less traffic. Bring somebody in to bring more people to the shopping area. Find ways to increase foot traffic. The buildings don't look the same, big deal, that adds to the character of the village. Fix parking, great idea. The only one. This is the classic case of officials wasting taxpayer dollars. I wonder how much this will cost us. How about advertising Southampton Village as a year round shopping haven. How about increasing the hours that stores stay open or for that matter days that they stay open. How about working with business owners to offer deals during the rest of the year to attract business. How about offering tax incentives to landlords to rent to year-round stores and not just summer months or for that matter just rent them. I am a village business owner for almost 12 years. I have never seen it as disgusting as it is now. I don't believe getting the buildings to look the same will improve business, it will only waste more landlord dollars which will raise our rents. Wake up and rewrite the master plan. " Sep 14, 09 11:01 PM

Enjoy Walmart! In Riverhead, where it belongs. Think about it if you move there you will be that much closer." Dec 15, 09 12:01 PM

Many of the shops in the Village offer better deals, especially during this time of year so they can move inventory before the true heart of the winter sets in. Also the Abercrombie's, American Eagles, and any of those other "Mall" stores take away from the spirit of shopping in a Mom & Pop shop, where usually customer service is more personal and you can actually get to know the person behind the counter instead of some kid that's more worried about texting or talking on their cell phone. BTW the village has a J Crew store, LF, and many other stores that carry brands like Ed Hardy, True Religion, Seven, Juicy, etc. Check with your teens to see if he/she would wear any of these brands. I'd be surprised if they weren't interested. Even the Ralph Lauren store has great deals, you just have to ask. " Dec 15, 09 12:16 PM

You would be very surprised at the deals you could get in the Village! All you have to do is ask. Being a SH business owner I would be very surprised if you came to the village this weekend that you would walk away without getting a good deal." Dec 15, 09 12:23 PM

Mall developer seeks new retail in Hampton Bays and Bridgehampton

Hey I know, maybe we can make an Outlet Mall for Tanger Outlet Mall, so if anything doesn't sell at the Outlet Mall they can bring it to BridgeHampton. Yeah that's a good idea Johnny! Just to let all of you know Tanger Stores posted record numbers this holiday season, while most small business in our villages struggle to pay their rents. Hope you guys enjoy it when you wonder why Main St. Southampton and Easthampton look like Main Street in Riverhead, and I'm not talking about Route 58. " Jan 1, 10 11:29 PM

Hooters hoax in Bridgehampton

The fact that all of you want a Hooters, but you can't lead yourself to a town hall or village meeting is really the joke here. Seriously, all of you complain that the town is run by dinosaurs, yet you do absolutely nothing about it is hilarious. Get with the program folks, it's your community!

Parts of Southampton Village parks and beaches may become smoke-free

You are not missing a damn thing. This is all about a bunch of people having nothing to do but complain about nothing. " Mar 11, 10 12:34 AM

Well , well what a surprise? I have been awaiting this day for a long time. It starts with one or two public areas here and there and before you know it, you won't be able to smoke anywhere. " Mar 11, 10 12:39 AM

It starts with the villages, and then the town adapts, and then the county, etc... so if you want to continue to enjoy that cigar you should be fighting this every step of the way" Mar 11, 10 10:20 AM

The same way it is hard to breathe and we get nauseous from you spraying way more perfume/cologne, if you can call it that, than necessary on yourselves. What's next? Let's control how much perfume you can spray, or what kind of food we can eat, or how people drive, or talking on the cell phone in public, or how much I eat or should I continue. While I agree that kids should not be exposed to smoking, I also believe that all of us are afforded the right to do as we please to ourselves. Until smoking is proven suicidal, I do not believe bans on open public areas like our beaches and parks is fair to those of us that do choose to smoke. My doctor may never give me any bad news or he may. I might get hit by a vehicle driven by someone under the influence of a narcotic or alcohol or while on their cell phone. I might get shot in a robbery. Where are my rights there? I am truly sorry you lost your husband to smoking related cancer, but fortunately/unfortunately we are given a set of rights in this country, and when those rights begin to be taken away, I get really annoyed. Southampton Village mayor and police chief at odds over officers' secondary employment applications

This all stems from one bad seed! Ridiculous bureaucratic bs that wastes taxpayer dollars. " Mar 17, 10 9:56 PM

Parts of Southampton Village parks and beaches may become smoke-free

Totally separate argument. Stick with the subject at hand. I'd pay more for healthcare as a smoker by the way if that was the case. Funny thing is there are many more problems in this world than smoking bans in open spaces. Next time you go to a Mets game, why don't you call the City of NY, even better Mayor Bloomberg, and tell him how you are tired of the pollution from the trucks, factories, airplanes, etc... Bottom line is this is open space that is supposed to be shared by all, smokers, non smokers, drinkers, non-drinkers, fat, skinny, ugly, beautiful, etc... Next time there is a Concert at Agawam, I'm gonna call Epley and tell him to arrest all those drinking their wine before they get in their car and run me down!" Mar 17, 10 10:10 PM

Southampton Town officials revisit idea of charging clubs for additional police presence

It is also amazing that no one mentions that the police presence also generates revenues for the town thought ticketing and arrests. I do feel that these clubs are a part of our economy, and although everyone only sees the vomiting and urinating, go and ask Uncle Joe's Pizza on Sunday if the Boardy Barn should close, or some of the other food establishments, or clothing establishments, or limousine companies, or whoever else may serve many of these kids. I am in retail in SH and my business has dropped tremendously because of the police presence at many of these clubs. Many of the patrons don't visit these establishments anymore or the area for that matter because it is so easy to get in trouble for the smallest thing. I mean really, 21 drug related arrests at one club, that's ridiculous. If that's not profiling, then I don't know what is. Nobody mentions anything about the drunken idiots leaving the American Heart Association annual fundraiser, or the VIP idiots leaving the Bridgehampton Polo matches each Saturday afternoon half sloshed. If you don't believe that there are drugs under the VIP tent at the Polo matches, wake up!!!! It's just a different clientele, I don't know what the solution is, but I can tell HB is much quieter this year than ever before." Jun 5, 10 12:36 AM

Town to reconsider leaf pick-up

Oh yeah just leaves and nothing else! Ha. " Jun 5, 10 12:43 AM

The town should provide an incentive to residents to bag and drop the leaves off at their local recycling facilities. I know I would bring them there if it means I could save some money on my tax bill." Jun 5, 10 12:54 AM

Arts Harvest Southampton faces backlash from local merchants

Kudos to the Mayor, at least he tried to do something. Yes, he/they messed up, but give them some credit for trying, and give him credit for taking responsibility. For those of you that complained, propose a better idea, or become a leader, take charge and get involved. If you haven't noticed business isn't that great in general, nevermind in sleepy SH Village. Ever been to Sag Harbor, Westhampton, or East Hampton. I'm not entirely sure how good business was this year b/c I haven't spoken to many business owners, but these villages were and are still booming with people. I saw more SH people in Sag Harbor this year than ever before. I wonder why? I know, b/c they host events like HarborFest, or WH has there sidewalk sale, or they're open late. Yeah maybe it cheapens the look, but my landlord doesn't care where the money comes from, just as long as it comes.
This year was the worst I have ever seen this Village. Wake up people, we are the only ones that can fix this problem, unless of course you don't view this as a problem. And yes I was part of last year's effort to revitalize business, but unfortunately, only half of the businesses in this village wanted to have anything to do with it. I guess some of us are more fortunate than others and can afford to sit back and relax. Well do your neighbors a favor and be a more supportive." Sep 23, 10 6:41 PM

Saks Fifth Avenue closes Southampton store this past weekend; Water Mill's Citarella also closed

If you guys took all your energy that you are using here to disucss this subject and went to a Brick and Mortar store and spent $5, us business owners would be in a much better situation. You people are annoying with all the bickering. Do something positive instead of this crap" Oct 8, 10 1:08 AM

Parties are at odds over date of Westhampton Beach Halloween parade

The SH Chamber parade has been changed, and for the exact reason the merchants are complaining and rightfully so in this economy. Just doesn't make sense to close a street on a busy afternoon summer or not. I have a five yr old and more than anything do I enjoy bringing my kid to SH for the parade, but at the same time, these businesses won't be able to afford handing out candy if the economy continues in this direction. Since its a school organized function, its a bit challenging, but why do you need the school involved? " Oct 15, 10 12:07 AM

Town Looks To Take First Step To Regulate Wastewater

Here's an idea! If you're so worried about the drinking water, then why are you allowing so much building. I can't imagine what a 10,000 square foot mansion with 20 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms might do to the aquifer system. Just Saying! Data collection? I always was under the impression that when a home is built, that a building permit needs to be issued. Usually that building permit requires plans to be drafted that are filed with the town or village. I would also be safe to assume that the location of septic systems and cesspools were required in those plans. Why do you need to use data collection as an excuse. STOP WASTING OUR MONEY! Southampton Village Nixes Sidewalk Sales During SeptemberFest

I hope to see your display out this weekend!!!!!" Oct 4, 12 11:25 AM

Next year we should move Septemberfest to Hampton Bays. Wait no maybe Water Mill. No wait maybe North Sea!!!! You should embrace the fact that a group of individuals/businesses/non-profits gathered together and are attempting to promote this village in whatever possible method they can. You should be helping not complaining. Or is this your idea of helping? Were you at all of the Septemberfest meetings. I doubt it. Stop whining! " Oct 4, 12 11:31 AM
