Report says anti-immigrant atmosphere in Suffolk County fuels violence

Violence is not the answer but people are fed up.
What has illegal immigration done? Here are a few wonderful tidbits

Additional burden on our schools and our taxes increase.
Additional burden on our hospitals and our insurance increases.
Not knowing who is living in our neighborhoods.
Over crowded homes and our property value decreases.
Day laborers lining the streets and leaving trash in their wake.
Gangs!!!
Additional burden to our prison system.
Uninsured and unlicensed drivers on our roads.
Money leaving our country and economy to support South American countries.

The list goes on.

There is spin and there is fact. Facts always trump spin. We are fed up and have been sold out by our government.
Pressure should be put on all levels of government to fix this problem. Violence against Latinos will do nothing.

If you don't like the stats below then contact your local and federal govt officials and let them know. Complaints without action are just a waste of time.
Who's on the side of the tax payer???

+++

* Education. Based on estimates of the illegal immigrant population in New York and documented costs of K-12 schooling, New Yorkers spend more than $4.3 billion annually on education for the children of illegal immigrants. This estimate does not include programs for limited English students, remedial educational programs or breakfast and lunch programs available to students from low-income families. An estimated 11.7 percent of the K-12 public school students in New York are children of illegal aliens.

* Health care. Taxpayer-funded, unreimbursed medical outlays for health care provided to the state’s illegal alien population amount to an estimated $690 million a year.

* Incarceration. The uncompensated cost of incarcerating deportable illegal aliens in New York’s state and local prisons amounts to about $165 million a year. This estimate includes only prison costs and not short-term or other detention costs, related law enforcement and judicial expenditures, or the monetary costs of the crimes that led to incarceration." Sep 16, 09 6:28 PM

If I broke into your home and took your money would you defend me with the "he's only trying to support his family" argument? No, because that action is illegal and I would be violating your rights.
So Latinos coming into the country illegally and putting heavy burdens on our schools, hospitals and judicial system should be tolerated because "they are only trying to support their families?" I'm taxed and paying for the same services that illegal immigrants are getting for free. Therefor I'm being ripped off and having my rights violated. So again, I guess I can take what I want, when I want, and from whoever I want because the notion that we have a country with laws has officially been thrown out the window.
This is about the rule of law, not race." Sep 22, 09 11:04 AM

And which race is the main the main culprit? I don't care if you are from the moon... if you are here illegally you have broken the law. But you can keep avoiding the facts and hide behind the easiest card to play... race. I'll be happy to have a debate based on data." Sep 22, 09 1:48 PM

Well I too have facts that will dispute everything you just wrote.
But let's have it your way... laws that only apply to certain groups.
That's cool. I think I'll start a group that does not want to obey the speed limit. That sounds good to me. I was unaware that laws were so flexible. What a wonderful revelation.

BTW - who has a problem with immigrants? I thought we were talking about people that are here illegally. I guess the train fell off the tracks at some point eh?" Sep 22, 09 3:36 PM

The speed limit thing was a sarcastic analogy.
I have made my point and you have made yours.
In the end we disagree. " Sep 23, 09 9:45 AM

Don't you know that writing FACT in all caps makes it so?
Apparently by doing so one gets to ignore substantiating the FACT with any data.
It's a rather interesting thing.
ie.
FACT: 2 + 2 = 5
FACT: The moon is made out of cheese
FACT: Certain ethnic groups get to ignore border laws.

Kabot's court date is pushed back to December

This all too funny. How many here supported Bill Clinton after he was caught lying under oath? So now many of you want to destroy Kabot because she has been accused of DUI. Ahhh the hypocrisy... I have seen enough from democrats this year. Quite frankly, I've seen enough from democrats for a lifetime." Oct 30, 09 10:01 AM

I hear you EQme. I guess it's best for us to govern our own homes.
I hope we both get that right. Maybe we can raise a few people who are not liars, cheats and greedy." Oct 30, 09 10:36 AM

Oh so standard levels fluctuate based upon who you like or dislike... I see.
I don't feel the need to explain my analogy as it seems quite clear.
I will say this though... if you put blind faith in any party, then you are in for big trouble. We are all being hurt by the "ride." " Oct 30, 09 11:48 AM

I agree with you. What I am saying is ALL public servants (ha) should be held to the same high standard. But alas, if they were we'd be left with about 4 people in government. Not that that would be a bad thing." Oct 30, 09 11:51 AM

Lying under oath is not a crime???

The Clinton analogy was, well... an analogy and not an assumption.

But we have this post above from fcmcmann
"The difference between democrats and republicans is that we do not swear blind allegiance to our party or its candidates."

So if you want to talk about assumptions we can." Oct 30, 09 2:45 PM

Health care reform passes House with Bishop's blessing

Funny how the lawyers in govt don't include tort reform in the bill.

Mr. Bishop, if you continue to take away from the producers of the world they will eventually have no incentive to keep producing. Then what happens???" Nov 11, 09 7:01 PM

For dagdavid

FYI I am a small business owner. This will hurt me and subsequently my employees. Here is the example you asked for...

Don't be so quick to line up for socialism people - it's going to hurt you.

"The 1,990-page bill the House leadership unveiled Thursday would impose a dizzying barrage of new regulations on employers, and force them to either provide government-specified health insurance or pay a penalty of up to 8 percent of their payroll."

Source: Grace-Marie Turner is president of the Galen Institute, a nonprofit research organization focusing on health policy." Nov 12, 09 11:09 AM

Many call Razza names and say he is "beyond enlightenment"
But none of you offer anything resembling an argument. For a moment look past your righteousness and consider the data.
I assure you, an 8% increase on payroll tax will result in lower wages and less hiring. It may very well send people to the unemployment line.
Call people names as much as you like, but do not ignore the data. If you work for or own a small business you will be negatively effected by the proposed health care bill. This has NOTHING to do with party affiliation and everything to do with what is best for the country.
" Nov 12, 09 11:51 AM

Nope. I don't listen to propaganda Sir.
Let's stay on topic

True or False

The bill would impose new regulations on employers, and force them to either provide government-specified health insurance or pay a penalty of up to 8 percent of their payroll

" Nov 12, 09 11:59 AM

BTW - if you need another source

Under the House measure, employers with payrolls exceeding $400,000 a year would have to provide health insurance or pay the 8% penalty.

Wall Street Journal" Nov 12, 09 12:13 PM

I did offer you another source and the data remains the same.
The answer to my question is TRUE

Under the House measure, employers with payrolls exceeding $400k a year would have to provide health insurance or pay the 8% penalty. Employers with payrolls between $250k and $400k a year would pay a smaller penalty.

We can debate this forever, but we'll still disagree. If this passes I hope I'm wrong and we have found the greatest thing since butter and toast. If I am right I will hold those who voted for the bill accountable with my vote." Nov 12, 09 1:59 PM

Clever that you have chosen to attack the source, so I have offered you another source. I can offer you about 100 sources on this issue and you can determine which one you like. In the end you have not proven the data to be false at all.

" Nov 12, 09 2:04 PM

You will probably wait forever.
If not, you will likely be called a name and someone will throw their ideology at you and assume that you are stupid because you disagree with them.
Those who claim to be the most enlightened are usually the most closed minded." Nov 12, 09 2:11 PM

This message board is really a microcosm of what is going on w/ our fed govt.
2 sides screaming and insulting each other with neither side at all interested in consensus. Maybe we deserve the horrible representation that we have at all levels of govt. Maybe the divide between the republicans and democrats represents the divide between Americans. I always hoped that the intention was to get things right and do what is best for the country. I don't see much reason to remain hopeful of that anymore. It is pretty sad, our government is who we are. So everyone carry on with the insults and false accusations. Perhaps you may find yourself in the senate one day." Nov 13, 09 8:54 AM

But hey, I'm sure Mr. Bishop, Mr. Schumer and the Pelosi / Reid gang know what is better for me than I do." Dec 22, 09 9:57 PM

Wrong. Greed got us into this mess. You don't kill the herd because you have a few sick cows. If you are a socialist then wave your flag high, because your views are that of a socialist. Free enterprise built America. Entitlement, government intrusion and laziness will be it's demise. BTW - if someone disagrees with you it doesn't make them a neocon, a whacko or any less evolved than you. It makes them an American with a point of view. You may want to embrace that notion as individuality is actually a good thing." Dec 22, 09 10:07 PM

President declares South Shore beaches a disaster area following November storm damage

People First how in the world do you turn this issue into "Bush gave tax breaks to the rich"??? Get over it already. This issue is about spending millions to build a sand castle that will last approximately 6 months if we are lucky. It wouldn't make sense if it were Bush, Roosevelt or George Washington making the decisions." Jan 5, 10 2:24 PM

C'monnnn.... Sava's post knocks Obama's spending and you fire back with Bush tax cuts and wars. You want jobs created? You can't think of another way? So this plan to dump sand on the beaches of those who received those Bush tax cuts that you hate so much is ok because Obama and Bishop came up with it eh? Now if Bush wanted to play million dollar sand castle I'm sure your tune would change. Personally I think Bush was a complete failure and not once did I vote for him, but that doesn't make Obama right by default. Quite frankly, this is a stupid idea and Mr. Obama seems chock full of those.
I'd rather see the money (and jobs) go to infrastructure. Al least we'd all get something out of it. But that just might make some sense so it's a non-starter.

This party.... that party... who cares? Just get to work and do a good job. Then we can throw a party." Mar 10, 10 7:44 PM

I will never understand the ridiculous allegiance that so many people have to one party or the other. Right now, at this very moment, republicans are spending oodles of time plotting against democrats. And at this very moment, democrats are plotting against republicans. And at this very moment, neither side is working on solutions to problems. Look at health care for instance. We can't get a consensus on the best course of action? Obama's plan has been rejected by the people, but he thinks he is so much smarter than all of us and is determined to shove it down our throats. Mr. Obama, your ego is way too large. The Repubs, of course don't offer a viable alternative, but instead spend all of their resources attacking. In the end we all lose. So clap and jump up and down and continue to write your checks for your party, my friends. You are basically celebrating ineptitude and corruption." Mar 11, 10 10:31 AM

Thanks for your point of view. As a business owner I would argue that there are too many restrictions on businesses and way too many taxes. I will also argue that Democrats spend too much and tax too much. The liberal Democrat clings to ideology at the expense of making decisions based on reality. That's not to say that there are not a myriad of problems with the RP.
But I do understand what your point.
My wish is that independents could participate in the primaries so we don't get stuck with these polarizing candidates. A little moderation could do us all good.

On a local level, I would challenge our representatives to make decisions based on what is best for the people, not the party. Do any of them have the guts to do so?" Mar 11, 10 12:41 PM

So angry. You keep on looking out of one eye and let me know how well that serves you. The Bush admin was terrible. That doesn't make the Obama admin any less terrible. Dems are so in love with the concept of Obama that they look past the reality of Obama." Mar 11, 10 7:35 PM

Surround yourself with smart people and get a consensus.

We have been filled up with so much garbage that we have come to expect it, and worse yet tolerate it." Mar 12, 10 9:49 AM

Bishop will vote yes on health care reform bill

We all agree that the country needs healthcare reform as right now it's a disaster. That said, this bill is a joke and Obama and Pelosi did nothing but twist arms, bend rules and force it down our throats. This process is an insult to all of us. I hope that anyone who is applauding this remembers this day when you wake up and realize that you just fell for a pile of garbage. Very expensive garbage at that. The Repubs had 8 yrs and did NOTHING. The Dems follow up with this nonsense. Those of you who voted for Obama are now cheering for tactics that are the exact opposite of what he promised you. Mr. Bishop is a sellout party puppet and I can't wait to do my part to vote him out. We are moving backwards. " Mar 20, 10 7:00 PM

You sure do paint with a broad brush. You are going to need a bigger box if you want to categorize why people are for or against this or any other piece of legislation.
So if you think this version of healthcare reform is wrong for the country then you don't care for your fellow man? Are your philosophy books penned by Dr Seuss?
" Mar 20, 10 9:32 PM

FCM is so liberal she makes Sean Penn blush. What FCM doesn't realize is that the hard push from liberals is turning moderates into republicans. Ther will be push back and it will be strong." Mar 20, 10 9:34 PM

That's the problem... you see this as a battle between neocons and liberals.
It's health care we are talking about. If this very same bill came from the Republicans and they used the same tactics that your beloved liberals are using, you'd be dead set against it.
" Mar 20, 10 9:43 PM

Correct. Your taxes are too high because your govt spends unwisely. Social Security is a complete dog and you will never get back what you put in. And now we will have govt health care. So history has already shown us what a wonderful job the govt does for "the greater good"" Mar 21, 10 11:36 AM

Ahhhh yes that does make sense. Bush started the Iraq war so we should all settle for a horrible health care bill. Once again the liberals yell "Glen Beck, Neocon, Iraq War, Tax cuts for the rich"
People, G W Bush is gone and most of the world thinks that is a good thing. Time to exhale and move on. Try to look at the legislation without your party goggles on and tell us how this is a good long term solution?
This "We won, we won" mentality is a fools game.
Nobody wins here folks. Your inept Fed Govt (Both sides) dropped the ball for the one billionth time. How America got to the point where ideology trumps logic I will never know.
And to my Republican friends, if you don't move to the center and get out of bed with big business very quickly, you will remain unappealing to most of us. Offer solutions. Any turd can jump up and down and say no." Mar 22, 10 8:46 AM

A dangerous precedent has certainly been set. " Mar 22, 10 8:48 AM

Ha. I can offer solutions (like ala carte insurance bundles that best suit the needs of any given family or individual) but that isn't my job. PF you spew your angry liberal nonsense constantly. You may want to look up the meanings of fact and opinion because you clearly have things scrambled up in that noggin of yours.
You are sooooo very angry. Relax." Mar 22, 10 9:50 AM
