To the anti- hunting contingent: The deer's habitat has been reduced by over development and there numbers are growing exponentially due to no predation, this will lead to an unhealthy population due to reduced forage. The humane thing to do is to allow hunting to thin the herds to reduce pressure on their habitat. Bowhunting is done in close quarters minimizing the potential of a missed shot going too far astray." Oct 15, 09 2:36 PM
Any of you nay sayers ever see bow hunting for deer up close? The hunter is usually in a tree stand making the angle of the shot virtually up and down. Unless some idiot sprints directly under the tree stand at the precise moment the arrow is released there is no danger of someone getting shot with an arrow. Additionally, if there are people besides the hunter in the area, the deer are going to shy away from the stand. The BMW and Range Rover contingent of soccer moms pose a much more real threat to public safety than do a few bow hunters." Oct 18, 09 4:27 PM
bow hunting is much safer than rifle hunting. A bullet can carry more than 1/2 mile, while an arrow carries a few hundred feet, although hunters don't take shots of more than 35 feet. You're not comparing apples and apples when you site statistics on hunting accidents and not include bow hunting." Oct 20, 09 5:29 PM
the murderer will get what's coming to him, one way or another." Oct 31, 09 10:16 AM
thanks for contributing to the illegal alies problem!!! The y couldn't do it without the likes of you." Nov 14, 09 9:20 AM
A slightly different take on this. Where in the constitution is it written that the government have the power to force a citizen to buy a product??!!
Also does the constitution give the government the right to force a private business to provide insurance to their employees?
Doubtfull on both counts." Nov 14, 09 9:32 AM
The ocean makes a poor neighbor. Global warming??!! Temps have been falling for the last 10 years." Nov 22, 09 10:54 AM
Sure, I'm glad my taxes have gone to preserve open space!! Using Aldrich as a taxpayer supported crime scene is rediculous. If this scam is to be foisted on us how about a couple of rules, HMMMM?
1-All workers MUST show legal documentation including a valid SS# checkable by using CARDCHECK!
2- All employers MUST show proof of workman's comp insurance.
3-All employers must pay by check with the proper witholdings taken out and documented.
ICE should set up a checkpoint at the entrance to check for laborer's documentation.
None of this mentions race or nationality, ust legal status of both the employer and employee.
Homeowners are not exempted from following these rules." Nov 26, 09 6:23 AM
If the Town and/or the Village go ahead with the hiring hall plan, are they not facilitaing the comission of a crime, ie. tax evasion? They will be providing a place where employers and employees circumvent the law by working off the books and without workman's comp insurance. With the financial problems facing the Town at this time why would they consider digging the hole deeper by engaging in a blatant illegal enterprise, with OUR TAX DOLLARS??!!" Nov 28, 09 7:26 PM
What part of ILLEGAL is so difficult to comprehend? By either entering our nation illegally or overstaying a visa the perp has comitted an illegal act. Political correctness has no place in this conversation, we should call these people what they are(criminals) and treat them as such. While I am sensitive to the plight of third world citizens, it is not our responsibility to employ them to the detriment of those here legally." Nov 30, 09 3:02 PM
The DEC is an INCREDIBlly powerful law enforcement agency that answers to no one!! There are no elected positions that we, as taxpayers, can influence with our votes. Do you know that the DEC can search your car, boat or even your HOME without a warrant?? Talk about a potential abuse of power! Couple this power with overzealous fish cops trying to make their careers take off by writing as many tickets as possible and it adds up to an out of control agency infringing on our rights as Americans. True, on the surface it looks like some fisheries violations occurred, and if they can be proved, in court, then let the punishment fit the crime. If not, the officers should be disciplined." Dec 5, 09 8:16 AM
Have fun in the slammer TONY, you can not imagine all the new friends you are going to have, really close friends. The COs in all probability will not be coming to your rescue when you and Bubba settle in for a long winter's night." Dec 15, 09 7:36 AM
an additional 2% for using a credit card? Who wants to pay more in taxes. I'll stick to snail mail thank you." Dec 15, 09 7:38 AM
Gotta say that I haven't seen a Town vehicle yet, no sand , no salt, no plow, no nothing!! What's going on here people? We pay taxes like the rest of the Town, but it seems like they forgot my road." Dec 20, 09 9:51 AM
dig the avatar kenya native! Don't let the luantic fringe get you down, the truth hurts when you've been proven wrong. Three cheers for the Tea Party and the Birthers!" Dec 20, 09 3:45 PM
since the Town isn't keeping up with all the global warming that has fallen, want to help dig some folks out david?" Dec 20, 09 3:47 PM
HELLO HELLO TOWN HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT ARE YOU THERE???!!!
Big Fresh and Randall Road are both have only 1 NARROW lane cleared, 2 vehicles can not pass each other and the Postal Service can't get through!!
I understand that we just got a good dump of snow, but during every other storm the Town and contracted plows were in motion non-stop, what's different this time. We didn't even get any salt and sand while it was starting. Holy crap, the first Town truck just went past my house.!!!!!" Dec 21, 09 6:09 PM
Bishop has let down the people in his district that actually work for a living, especially those that own a business. His supporters are either independantly wealthy or sucking on the govt teat, there's no other logical explanation why anyone could possibly agree with his voting to destroy the economy." Dec 21, 09 6:16 PM
HALLELUJAH!!! WE SAW A SALT TRUCK THIS AFTERNOON" Dec 22, 09 5:07 PM
As of yesterday at 2:30 PM, Cooper Rd. in North Sea still had 6+ inches of snow and had been plowed , poorly, 1 time, thank God for the rain!" Dec 26, 09 11:22 AM
FLASH TO THE LUNATIC LEFT:!!!!!!! YOU CAN NOT SPEND YOUR WAY OUT OF DEBT!! Tax cuts create more revenue due to increased economic growth. Carry on." Jan 4, 10 7:37 AM
Not sure what planet you're from, but here in the real world trickle down works, and works well. In our area we are blessed with an economy that runs on trickle down. Every single carpenter, electrician, roofer, painter, real estate agent, landscaper , gardener and interior deecorator and those who own these businesses are successful due to trickle down. I experienced strong growth in my business last year, and next year looks better, Who do you think creates jobs and business opportunities? It sure isn't the poor! Thank God for the wealthy residents that we have here, if nor for them we would be in the same mess as a lot of folks are." Jan 5, 10 4:45 PM
And who is it that the small businesses service in our neck of the woods???!! It's the wealthy! Why do you want to clost the gap between rich and poor, isn't it up to those not making a satisfactory living to better themselves? Why bring the successful down, bring the less successfull up! If you are jealous of someone elses financial position, get off your can and work harder, get more education or start your own business. Class envy is one of the pillars of liberalism and liberalism is a failed concept. Unemployment is 10% in part because of the Marxist in Chief's insane deficit. Businesses will start hiring when they feel they will not be penalized by even more confiscatory taxes." Jan 6, 10 8:51 AM
care to rebutt the facts in my post? Eg. our economy runs on trickle down, the wealthy create jobs or unemployment is high because of uncertainty due to BHO's policies?" Jan 6, 10 12:44 PM
nice attitude, read my question please. I asked about OUR LOCAL ECONOMY. We live in a unique area here, want to take a crack at it in that light?" Jan 6, 10 1:24 PM
Then please explain, if you can, the plethora of succesful businesses in our community that exist only because of wealthy, part time residents." Jan 6, 10 3:40 PM
Then enlighten me please, in your opinion, what makes the economy in our area tick. Quality will always rise to the top." Jan 6, 10 8:31 PM
In true liberal fashion you have shown yourself to be a bitter nay sayer with nothing to add to the discussion but the usual talking points and personal insults. Trickle down works, in the real world, thank GOD!" Jan 7, 10 8:40 AM
Again, what makes our LOCAL econmoy tick, if not trickle down from our wealthy part time residents?" Jan 7, 10 9:50 AM
speaking of no comments allowed on certain stories, why no comments allowed on the stories regarding the two felony DWIs with children in the car?
Back on track, the truth will come out in court, it's unfortunate that the gentleman in question's name is being dragged through the mud for possesing what you can grow in your garden." Jan 7, 10 5:36 PM
You can take the gangsta out the hood, but you can't take the hood out the gangsta! " Jan 27, 10 2:59 AM
Mr. Bishop: Since you have failed to represent the majority of your constituents on the East End by blindly following the leftist agenda of the Demokrat Party, you wil not be re-elected to another term in Congress. Time to get out into the real world and get a job where you will be paid for actually doing something instead of feeding at the government trough, Adios!" Feb 4, 10 9:31 AM
One 7-11 is enough thanks.Seems like they built that monstrousity for Outback Steakhouse, remember when Outback had an office in Southampton village? The economic downturn shot that plan to hell and now the developer is stuck with one tenant. That's why it's called 'SPECULATION'! No guarantees. As to the pro-day laborer comment, they are criminals and should be treated as such. Al Capone got locked up for tax evasion, why should these tresspassers be treated differently. No racial comments were used in this statement." Feb 24, 10 11:48 AM
I would rather have our Trustees dealing with applications than the DEC. That's an omnipowerfull governmental agency that answers to no one and has no elected members. Way too much power there" Feb 24, 10 11:51 AM
Bob, when you migrated to the east end, where did you come from and why did you move here? Could it have been for the open space, the good schools, less development, no apartment buildings, economic opportunity or a better quality of life for your kids? By your comments you seem to want to destroy the very reasons most people live here..Don't like the way the zoning is? Perhaps you should lookfor another place to call home." Feb 24, 10 12:07 PM
If you had your way Bob, this would no longer be a "wonderful place." It cracks me up when folks move here becase they love it,then try to change it into the very place they just left! Sorry your kids had to move back up the island to find affordable housing, perhaps they should rent for a while and save up for a down payment like most of us here have done." Feb 25, 10 1:01 PM
