Code enforcement shuts down soup kitchen at Southampton Tire

I am profoundly and deeply saddened by the comments on this story. Our country was founded by immigrants. "We the People" includes Europeans, like myself, Asians, South Americans, Middle Easterners. Our ancestors all started on the bottom rung if they came to the US without an education or without money.

When did we close the doors to America?

When did we stop feeding the tired and the hungry?

I am truly horrified. My heart goes out to the Whitby's who should fight for what they believe in.

I trust 27EAST.com will cover this story until justice prevails and the soup kitchen is up and running.

When it is let me know and I'll come cook for you all.

Lexi,

Southampton Tire soup kitchen can reopen

What can I do to help get this soup kitchen up and running. I was horrified to hear it was closed.

Here's my post to the previous article about the closing.

Our country has seen some difficult times recently. If anyone reading this comment string is hungry, please put pride aside and seek out a meal that someone has labored over to make sure that YOUR belly is full before you go to bed tonight. Please don't be critical of someone taking a free meal and don't be ashamed in taking one yourself. These are hard times. " Apr 18, 09 9:30 PM

Debate over Southampton farmers market continues

I do think that this is a advertising opportunity for local farmers and small producers of jams, baked goods and even fish and cheese. Staff is hard to come by during the summer -- what about employing local youth and turning this into a community project that teaches entrepreneurship, marketing and ag skills to young people and engages them in regional food production? Protesters demand an end to shark tournament

Every father's day I am deeply saddened (and outraged ) by this tournament weekend in Montauk and only slightly torn because it is a Montauk institution.

I'm absolutely convinced that any ecologically minded fisherman (which most are) would support a catch and release tournament. Killing sharks in 2009 and tossing them into dumpsters to rot should be a crime -- I'm with Matt and Quogue on that. There's a rumor that some of the meat went to a food pantry but it's only a rumor. A new market out at 'The End'

Kudos to the Montauk Farmers Market for donating the fees to the Montauk Food Pantry. The more farmers markets and farm stands that we have on the South Fork the better chance we have to crowd out globally sourced fish and fruits and veggies shipped in from thousands of miles away (and stores that call themselves farmers markets that really are not). Please support your farmers market and local retailers selling locally grown foods! Check out LightHearted Locavore: A Realists Guide to Eating Local on LI and Manhattan. East Hampton Farmers Market faces possible shutdown

Perhaps East Hampton's Board should call Bonnie Cannon, the founder of the Southampton Farmers Market and Town of Southampton Trustee, and find out how hard she fought to have a farmers market in Southampton Village. Or talk to someone over at the Montauk Chamber of Commerce to better understand why local farmers, fishermen and bakers are important to the local Hamptons economy. I hope EH does the right thing and helps everyone solve the problem... Read more on Lighthearted Locavore http://bit.ly/bgqGAY" Jul 22, 10 2:28 PM
