East Hampton School Board Formally Opposes Betsy DeVos For U.S. Secretary of Education

All of the above!!!!!!! The Republican Party from the top down have sold us out. They are the ones who let The Infantile Loud Mouth get this far. The End. " Feb 14, 17 8:14 AM

Former East Hampton Student's Overdose Heightens Community Concern About Drug Use

I am a former lifetime resident of Southampton. My children attended school there in the 1960's/1970's. They were among the first wave of kids affected by the use of illegal drugs. Unfortunately the school officials at the time chose to ignore the problem. That was very sad. I hope all the people in all the villages stand up and recognize that it takes cooperation to fight this problem. Most of all DO NOT blame one or two children and their families. Work together to get
help. AND get yourself educated to the the problem of Addiction. " Feb 23, 17 7:24 AM

More Registered Democrats Than Republicans In Southampton Town For The First Time

Then please tell me why did y'all vote in the same congress? No big change there." Feb 23, 17 7:27 AM

Clean waters? You are the problem. Urban sophistication in the farm lands? What a snobbish attitude! You have no idea of how to live with a farming island. Just how do you think the locals managed to live and support this once lovely community? We and our parents, grandparents for over 200 years managed very well. Enough so that you newbies, who have no idea how to manage the waters, decided you wanted to move out to our paradise. And quickly mismanaged everything you touched. You bring nothing helpful to our homeland. " Feb 23, 17 7:45 AM

notice to HB Proud, Gillnetter, Turkey Bridge etc.
In response to your previous posts I can tell you that the recent village and town boards have not had many, if any, locals serving on them. In fact the last time I saw any really local entering and winning a seat was back in the 1970's. One of the reasons I am posting this is in the statements a few months (A year?) ago I noticed a comment from someone on the Beach, on the Bridgehampton side of Mecox Bay, complaining about the locals need to dredge out the Bay. He didn't seem to understand that those folks whose parents and grandparents etc. have seen the need to clean out the bays along the ocean side of the island for the past 300 years! It saves the houses along the shore from getting their basements from being flooded." Feb 23, 17 6:15 PM

State Poised To Strip Local Authority Over Uber; East Hampton Official Warns Of 'Chaos In Montauk'

I resent that assumption! I like cash. And I don't get paid off the books! And I am legal. And
I am able to prove it back to 1640 in Southampton!" Mar 30, 17 4:46 PM

Southampton Town Trustees Open Mecox Cut With Only A Short Window

Icecreamman asks what's going on here? Newbies that's what. Some ** individual plunks down his cash, buys a house on the oceanfront, and now wants to rule the place. My grandfather's construction company with the big buldozer was called to go down to Mecox Bay to open the cut at least once a year. I got to watch it once in a while if I promised to stay out of the way.
The problem comes about when the new folks do not bother to learn what is the normal run of things in the new place they call home for a few months. So I'll tell YOU Newbies out there....... If you persist in forcing your desires there in Mecox pretty soon you will have SMELLS in your basement or SMELLS on the shore front of your property and your neighbors will HATE you." Zeldin Supports Principles Of GOP Health Care Plan

Drain North Sea? I wonder if Mr. Snerdlely has even been there? It's impossible to drain that lovely spot. Besides the newbie is uneducated as to what would help our country. I don't see any constructive action here." Apr 3, 17 10:50 AM

UPDATE: Hampton Bays Taxpayers Reject $9.9 Million Library Referendum

I wonder what you feel is more important than a Library? A couple of days out fishing on a party boat? Out to dinner once or twice a week? Buying a few lottery tickets? Stopping off someplace to shoot the breeze with friends and a beer or two as well? And how much would the proposed library affect your taxes? " Apr 12, 17 10:06 AM

Ah yes that beer was important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And how many more than one did you all have?" Apr 12, 17 10:08 AM

One Kings Lane To Open In Former Rogers Memorial Library Building In Southampton

I can remember every wall in the first (main) floor and the basement. I was never allowed to the second floor.... although my mother used to spend some afternoons up there with the resident who was also the librarian; Mom loved to sit up in the turret during her teenage years of the nineteen twenties. Fond memories of that Library. I cannot speak to the legal matters taken when the Semergins helped to spur the drive for a new Larger Library, but, I do know in selling the old Library building to The Parrish the board expected them to REMAIN on Jobs Lane IN the Village. For the locals, those who were born in the village, it is difficult to see the changes being made in our hometown but one realizes that time does move on. I just hope the new owner will not change the exterior of our lovely old building on the corner. I hope Mr. Sobel will honor that wish from the locals. " Apr 20, 17 7:33 AM

In Southampton, Proposed Code Change Over Police Commissioner Post Sparks Disagreement

How do you know? How far back in history do you go? Do you know the Supervisors, Cameron, Halsey? The men who were born in Southampton studied and knew how the East End worked... like when to dredge Mecox Bay so it wouldn't pollute the area? And the summer people talked to the locals and followed their advice.

The Parent-Coach Conundrum In High School Sports Stresses All Sides, Educators Say

Sad to see all this muddle. I went to SHS and played under our master, Marge Auster. She was tough on the field and rightly so. I was never aware of any parent trying to second guess the coach. Don't think Marge would have stood for interference with her job. Of course she had winning teams for years. Time were different then." Apr 27, 17 11:11 AM

The Parent-Coach Conundrum In High School Sports Stresses All Sides, Educators Say

What do you mean? Sarcasm will get you no where. Maybe you're just jealous that you or your family weren't in Southampton during the many years of building the lovely village by the sea.
Sorry, but I am only saying there were many years when the parents let the teachers teach and the coaches coached." Apr 27, 17 12:00 PM

Increased Property Assessments A Cause Of Concern For Some, Especially In Flanders And Southampton Village

From what I read here most of the comments seem to come from non-locals. I mean folks whose family is living and working 24/7/365 here on the East End. Some of the comments would be valued if all the writers had those qualifications.
When SH was founded in 1640 the Founders stipulated that anyone desiring to settle here MUST have a useful trade, prove he had enough financial backing to last three years and he and his family signed that they would live here for those three years. It's in the history books that I read in the Rogers Memorial Library. So how many now owning a house here can live up to those standards? The developers who just want to build, sell, and move on? The local worker cannot compete with those willing to buy into what is called the locals area, paying high prices to buy and tear down! Then build a house no local could maintain etc. Such is the problem Mrs. Deutschmann finds herself ... through absolutely no fault of her own! No one out there who wants to stay in the home they have lived in for over 30 years thinks it will happen to them. No one believes that Diane's problem can happen to them.
I wonder how many of the newbies who have lived in their home for over ten years are in a position that, maybe, they will have to sell and move on?" May 20, 17 9:05 AM

James M. Brown Of Southampton Dies May 18

A truly local man, born in Bridgehampton, lived and worked his whole life there, raised a fine upstanding family and all you can do is 2 lines?

Community Reacts To Southampton Village Board Candidate Using Slur In Call To Police

I almost think she is a plant from the Real Estate purveyors in the area. that is how it starts, going into a rundown area and try to build it up and then move on. That person should NOT be allowed to be on the Board. Her motives are obvious and selfish. She didn't see color? What a stupid remark!
" May 27, 17 12:53 PM

All you want is to change the neighborhood to suit you and your friends. You are no friend to the folks that live there and have lived there for more than 50 years. In the past history of Southampton like 350 years ago you would have been run out of town on a stick. My ancestors would have you leave our favored spot on the Atlantic Ocean. You bring no good vibes to Southampton. So there!" May 27, 17 12:57 PM

Maybe she has none... or at least any that would come to her rescue! She does not belong on any Board in Southampton Village or Town.
