Judgment favorable but does not restore Stony Brook Southampton

It may very well be "too expensive to run" but that does not make it any less expensive to close. Where are the numbers?

The amortization of the purchase price will continue. How many millions were spent on renovations of dorms and other facilities? Those costs will also continue even if those buildings are again locked up and allowed to deteriorate. Exactly how much is Stonybrook "saving" by allowing it all to go fallow?

Let's see the numbers and allow some well considered choices - not personal agendas to prevail." Sep 19, 10 12:05 AM

No smooth sailing for Mecox Bay sailing group

"Why should a community that exists now be displaced by one that existed before - decades ago?"

Nobody is asking for anyone to be "displaced" - it's called sharing the resources. Is sharing such an abhorrent concept to you? What's next, a locked gate across the entrance to Bay Lane? I think you'd probably get behind a campaign for that. Keep the local riff-raff at least a half mile away." Sep 19, 10 8:15 PM

Southampton Town Board moves to preserve section of the pine barrens in East Quogue

That's not much of a compromise if you're an ATV/Dirt bike enthusiast (I'm not). Allocating 25 acres or so to those activities would represent a lot more consideration than "off the island". Then we can discuss the liability concerns. " Sep 21, 10 1:03 PM

Yeah, let the little SOB's sail by the cut. When they get washed out to sea White, bay lane res, et al will be vindicated." Sep 21, 10 1:07 PM

Pat Lynch continues lawsuit against town

So, out of dozens of volunteers, the Town's people at the shelter just randomly chose Lynch to discriminate against? She was just a dedicated person who wanted to follow the procedures like everyone else and walk a dog or two? Only she was interested in humane conditions for the dogs?

And now the cabal of insiders has embarked on a message board campaign? Why do I think we're not getting the whole story here?" Sep 21, 10 1:21 PM

Shinnecocks want three casinos on Long Island

Who says it is "more accurate"? What's the source? Location? Facility? Vision?

You're just an alarmist.

The only casino that would work east of the canal would be a small, high stakes, limited access one serving the very high rollers." Oct 1, 10 2:20 PM

I think you're confused. Las Vegas was built by criminal elements. It is only in the relatively recent past that it has been transformed into what some may see as family friendly.

To say that Atlantic City was ever "a lot like us" is totally preposterous" except for it being near the ocean. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun are the closest examples of what a Shinnecock casino may be like. What's your problem with them?" Oct 1, 10 2:29 PM

THIS JUST IN!

Newsday is reporting that the objections to Shinnecock recognition have been disallowed by the court.

Congratulations." Oct 1, 10 2:42 PM

It will be easy to sustain if we deal with reality instead of your own fantastic Armageddon. Forget what "some" alarmists have said and get your "education" from what is realistic for all concerned. There will be no major gambling facility east of Riverhead.

I believe there remains a possibility of a small East End high stakes facility similar to Monte Carlo sometime in the future if the global economy warrants it. Beyond that, Parr Meadows or Calverton are the most likely locations in Suffolk County.

Those areas WILL be developed eventually anyway, they are within the distance to the reservation to make sense and would keep Suffolk in the revenue loop. Transportation is good with Parr Meadows adjoining the expressway; Calverton a little farther off but has the advantage of a rail line on the property.

You might have no need to get a job, thousands do. Another source of revenue can help all here with their tax burden, even if you don't need it. How about leaving your arguments to what is real, not imagined?" Oct 6, 10 12:50 PM
