Stratton Clark Walling

Stratt played the lead role in "You Can't Take It With You" in 2004, not 1984. His performance in Qougue was acclaimed as a perfect example of how to perform comedy. He subsequently went on to perform the same role for a theater on the New Jersey coast, earning the lead immediately after showing up for the audition there and delivering the lines of Grampa with his sharp mind and professional skills without help of the script! He will be greatly missed by all his friends in the theater community." Dec 17, 09 9:17 PM

Radu Physical Culture Tries To Rebound From Financial Troubles

Ownership = Responsibility
Failure to pay Salaried Employees = Federal Labor Law Violation
Failure to pay Minimum Wage = Very Uncool
Trainer to the Stars = Stick it to the Locals
No Line of Credit to Pay Workers = Time to Close Shop
There are too many employers who take advantage of our hard working locals. These owners need to be charged for Labor Law violations, and before they get to play the bankruptcy card!
" Nov 13, 10 2:42 PM

Radu, Trainer to the Stars, still owes my medical office asst's son his hard earned summer wages, so this is not just another news item to me. " Nov 14, 10 11:52 AM

I, too, was a member at Radu's Gym. I liked what Radu had created very much. The staff were very dedicated and I even liked Radu, though he was infrequently there when I was. So to now witness how his business has collapsed is disappointing to many, including me. I really hope that he is able to get everything fixed quickly. His business has the potential to provide many jobs to our community. Radu's place always felt very personable and welcoming. " Nov 14, 10 11:32 PM

...and don't forget that Radu welcomed into his gym - at no charge - our local fire and ambulance volunteers! " Nov 15, 10 8:05 AM

Despite Objections, Southampton Town Board Appoints OTB Official To Top Management Post

Remove PostAllen Lawrence Fein
Southampton Town Republicans: What's with the behavior of your "gang of three"? They effeciently blew much of that goodwill feeling that they worked so hard to earn from voters. Looks like an inside patronage job shoved down taxpayer throats. Such an important job, huge pay and benefits, and no open application/vetting process. Even if the new man may be very qualified, what a PR fiasco. Waiting for clarity.
" Dec 1, 10 4:57 PM

I even voted for one of you. Please don't make me regret it." Dec 1, 10 4:58 PM

Miller???? It's Jim Malone. He was such a hard running candidate, attending community events everywhere. Seems so out of character that he would act like this now. Bizarre. Still awaiting clarity. " Dec 2, 10 8:22 AM

On a positive note, benevolent dictatorship is particularly direct and efficient. There will be ample time before the next election for voters to decide if these three are running our town well or not. " Dec 3, 10 12:14 AM

With all the current unemployed experienced people in our community, I hope that our three benevolent dictators chose the best person for such a key position. Since this all occured behind closed doors, we humble voters will never know. On the other hand, when leaders really know what is best for their citizens, much time is saved when no public call for applications is advertised, people don't have to sit patiently through hours of vetting hearings, and the public is spared informative debate. Think of it positively.....the three running our town have acted quickly and on secret to kept things simple for everyone! There is so much more to the chosen man than OTB, and headlines minimize his qualifications by focusing on that small part of his background. " Dec 3, 10 5:51 PM

Me, sarcastic? " Dec 3, 10 10:02 PM

If things don't work out, I will feel quite betrayed by Jim Malone and will get active in all efforts to remove him from elected office. However, I am optimistic that the town will ultimately be very well served by the new person hired. Nevertheless, in our democracy, voters expect different behavior by our Council. This issue should not just go away. The ends don't justify the means. " Dec 6, 10 5:47 PM

Another thought: the Council violated hiring regulations established by the town, according to some. What exactly do our by-laws dictate? Perhaps such regulations are not laws, but recommended guidelines. If there really are laws that have been circumvented by our council, then just find a judge to put a temporary injunction to that odious council resolution where the fellow was hired, and then go back to square one and follow our hiring regulations to be fair to other qualified candidates. " Dec 6, 10 5:59 PM

I will contact Town Hall, and get those actual "laws" on town hiring, if indeed they even exist. It is quite usual for politicians to appoint qualified party-faithful people from their own team. Most like-minded party members would go along with this kind of politics, anyway. Recall that the three leaders behind this whole mess sat "stone-faced" at the meeting last week when they were publicly villified speaker after speaker, so an angry letter campaign does not excite me. These are three intelligent council people, and I find it hard to believe that they would be so stupid as to flagrantly break any law! By the way, I did not read that the Supervisor had made any cautionary motion about the vote being illegal, nor that she had even requested the legal opionion of the town's legal staff. " Dec 6, 10 9:55 PM

This from the article: " Ms. Throne-Holst also said the measure violates a hiring policy that the town has in place for management positions, which, among other things, calls for the creation of a selection committee charged with conducting a search. Sounds like a rather toothless policy! May as well scrap it." Dec 7, 10 12:42 AM

I received the full resolution about "Hiring Policy" #1307, November 14, 2000. It applies to management and professional positions that are classified by Civil Service as exempt, competitive and non-competitive. Being a humble and simple physician, I would have liked to see an elaboration of what positions this applies to, and less of the legal BS. Appreciating the the spirit and intent of this hiring policy, and convinced that the three council people were in violation of this intelligent hiring policy,I I hope that it is not too late for the benevolent dictators to step back and our town back on the right track. I for one am ready to forgive their enthusiasm, but they need to wake up and act like the great leaders we so recentl.y elected to serve our interests with fairness and wisdom." Dec 7, 10 8:46 PM

Oxford And East End Health Care Alliance Fail To Meet Contract Deadline; Go Out of Network

How much have your Oxford monthly bills gone up in the past year? How much has your copay gone up? How much increase if any has Oxford given to physicians lately?? How much of an increase has Oxford asked to be allowed to charge their customers this year? And finally, how many multiple millions of dollars does Oxford pay their biosses? Medicine under capitalism. Not a pretty picture. " Jul 15, 11 6:58 PM

Contractor Claims Southampton Councilman Locked Him In Office After Worker Broke Into Home

The reports are quite unsympathetic to Jim. For a contractor to just show up at someone's workplace, unexpected, and accompanied by a second person, is really not appropriate. Such behavior is intended to intimidate people, and Jim's mental state at the time he was being recorded without his permission, seems to me to be consistent with him feeling very uncomfortable with being cornered by two men, one of them a total stranger. This tape is really not a fair way to judge people. When my buttons are pressed, I too have said many things best not recorded and published in all the newspapers and online. Thankfully, the meeting between these 3 men did not degenerate into a physical fight. Nevertheless, Jim needs to get all this stuff dealt with quickly so he can focus on his responsibilities for the community. Re: Paying one's bills in Southampton with children of college age on a part time job for the Town: Get real......give the guy some slack! And I would imagine that most Town Council Members put in way more time than the 5 - 6 hours that they are officially paid for, including Jim Malone. Coming to meetings prepared takes hours. He certainly needs to do a better job returning phone calls from what I read. Did everyone note that Southampton Town showed a budget surplus this year while Jim has been serving? He may appear to be distant and not connected to the average citizen, but he also appears to be competent!" Jan 12, 12 3:43 PM

I do not understand why you are already counting hm gone, when there is nothing on record proving that he has failed to serve our Town of Southampton in a reasonable manner. You can't just kick someone off a Town Board because of alleged problems somewhere else. You'll sound like a lynch mob. On the other hand, it may be a good time for Jim Malone to take a week or two, personal time off, and reflect on all this and get his public image repaired. He got my vote last time, but he sure is testing the loyalty of his supporters!" Jan 15, 12 12:41 PM

UPDATE: Altschuler Concedes Race To Bishop

Now that Randy Altschuler has spent millions of dollars in his second losing election to Tim Bishop, he has become quite well known and should be a welcome presence on any town board or other public position, given his intelligence and strong leadership skills. Trying to start off his political career in a congressional election was, in my opinion, too ambitious. I hope that he quickly gets elected here in the East End of LI... or even gets some appointment, to be able to start serving our community in an official capacity..... and I am a Democrat." Nov 7, 12 2:38 PM

You make a good point about where Randy lives. My point is that he strikes me as someone keen and prepared to work in politics. I have met him and like him, apart from the millions of dollars spent on obnoxious ads. We need capable individuals like him in leadership positions here in Suffolk. Most of the qualified people around here have careers that they are unable to get away from; if Randy has the time and interest to serve, he should get elected or appointed in my opinion. I feel one of the main reasons that he keeps losing elections, is that he does not have enough of a track record here in Suffolk." Nov 7, 12 3:27 PM

Well, I like Dennis Suskind, too. I am 60 and accept that those willing to stick their necks out and serve the community in politics, are unable to meet all our hopes. No leader is without issues. The task.of attending countless hours of meetings is generally a thankless one. However, I don't wekome all activists with open arms. For example, many from tha Party are severely lacking redeeming qualities!" Nov 7, 12 4:33 PM

Tea Party." Nov 7, 12 4:34 PM

Randy is clearly well known, as he received just about 9000 fewer votes than Tim Bishop, who is indeed very well known. Over 118,000 of our neighbors gave their support to this newcomer from the GOP, almost half the cast vote. In my opinion, that is indeed proof that he ought to stick around Suffolk and work to improve our community." Nov 7, 12 7:46 PM

Southampton Village Approves Dog Park On Windmill Lane

This dog park will be right next door to my office. Apart from the extra noise and cars, My wheaten, Max and I welcome this project and would like to get involved. Dog parks are wonderful for dogs and owners. Owners are expected to clean up after their dog of course, and badly behaved dogs are banned. Dogs will require that their shots be up to date.
