Candidates participate in final debate

The facts are clear. Tom DeMayo by his own admission supported the fourth justice. He also voted to rotate that justice into an existing schedule. No new court time was added, and Tom DeMayo reduced his bench time to 13 weeks a year for the same salary. That is not dedication to the community, it was an act of self interest. If he wanted to contribute to his community he should have pushed for a night court BEFORE he was an election. The people have wanted a night court for years." Oct 31, 08 11:20 PM

Town Justices upset over criticisms about court schedules

Now we have Tom DeMayo asking us for four more years. That would make 20 years on the bench. It took an election for him to support a night court. If he were sincere about his action, he would have done it 7 years ago. His opponent ran on that issue last year against Burke...hmm. Tom DeMayo voted to rotate that new justice into an existing schedule with no new court time added (including a night court). Now Tom DeMayo only works 13 weeks a year on the bench. When he did that he acted in his self interest and not the interest of the taxpayers of the town of Southampton. How can we trust him to act in our best interests when it is not an election year?" Gasoline prices are still inflated here, despite new law

The State of Florida has passed a law requiring that the price of gasoline not be more than ten cents higher than the lowest price throughout the state. That law was enacted because of the price gouging of gasoline in the Keys. This sounds very familiar to what has been and is happening on the South Fork." Dec 17, 08 12:17 PM

Town employee suspended for racist messages referring to the president-elect

What does this behavior/action say about the culture in our SH Town Hall. These comments were written and sent. I wonder what things are spoken by some employees of the town, where there is no record. How did this person felt so comfortable to say these things? "Things that make you go hmmm..."" Benson Gallery torn down; town concerned about circumstances

With the amount of campaign contributions that the Ferrell Building Corp has given to the Southampton Republican party and their candidates, it will be interesting to see what kind of slap on the wrist they will get given the fact that the entire town is controlled by our local GOP." Town employee suspended for racist messages referring to the president-elect

Hey Mr. Blue...do you really think that Mr. Judy is going to talk to the press? He is being investigated! Bossetta's article was reasonable considering what happened. If you are really concerned about the family send them a fruit basket and stop making it worse for them by posting your comments." Dec 21, 08 9:58 PM

Restaurants will have to list prices for specials

I have been in the situation where the unmarked special was al ot more expensive than anything on the menu. I paid it...I never returned." Dec 24, 08 2:02 PM

Construction worker killed in job site accident in Southampton Village

Commonsense...yes...well said. However, it is necessary to include the fact that these folks are coming here to make money. Let us not forget the Americans who are hiring these folks. It is those who hire them who are making the real money, and we all get to fund the services. I believe that these restaurants, hotels, and construction companies who are benefiting off of this population should be held more accountable. If an undocumented day worker hurts himself the construction company drops him off at the hospital and drives away...we get to pick up the tab.
" Jan 8, 09 12:16 PM

Undertow...you are right...and I do feel for the the family. Your point about construction standards is however in the same vein as what I posted earlier. Business owners need to take more resposibility for their type of labor." Jan 8, 09 2:16 PM

And it is those who are paying the day laborers who must be held accountable. Those contractors (general and sub) are making more money off of the situation than those (day laborers) who are standing out on the streets. I would like all of you who are "against illegals" to also realize that our businesses are a huge part of the situation. How did they pour a wall with no footing or re-bar...OMG! " Jan 10, 09 9:20 AM

Sally Pope introduces her first resolution

Do you really expect that a SH Town council-women could come in change the current economic situation of the area? I agree with your rather humorous points to an extent...she probably should not have started with this, but if you ask me this inane issue beats Kabot’s "No cloth-line" inane legislation for the town." Jan 11, 09 12:13 PM

Pope holds swing vote on Nuzzi proposal

It's too bad that Ms. Kiernan did not feel this way when they renovated her office. How much did that cost us?? Or perhaps the Kabot slate roof. What was that...$50.000?? Did we really need to move the justice court?? With all due respect Ms. Kiernan, what about those stones ?? As for the "Business Alliance" they are an off-shoot of the Southampton GOP , why are they being quoted." Jan 14, 09 7:50 PM

Forum on Suffolk County's homeless sex offender policy draws 300 people

Michael Brewer is a dedicated member of our community. Congratulations for organizing such a forum. He did what the county executive and the town supervisor failed to do, which was to bring important issues such as this to the public. Mr. Brewer…we need you in SH Town Hall." Jan 16, 09 7:57 PM

Pope holds swing vote on Nuzzi proposal

Again, where was this cost-cutting spirit when it came to all of the luxurious upgrades to Kabot’s and Kiernan’s offices? How many “assistants” does Kabot have? Let us remember that under this administration the town asked for and received a fourth justice….who was added to an existing schedule with no new court time added. Now they are going to reduce these boards…this would make the town even more exclusive than it is now. " Jan 16, 09 8:11 PM

Pierson students can earrn cheap college credits

All of the schools in the area offer AP courses and other college credited courses. I hope that the communities will understand the importance of such programs and support the local districts and keep the courses rather than cutting them in these trying economic times. Kudos to our local school districts for offering such opportunities to our students. " Jan 18, 09 9:37 AM

A day of unity and celebration

Here, here...well said rabbit. Now tht the celebrations are over, it is time for unity and hard work. Personally, I am glad to hear that our town hall employees were TOGETHER watching history being made on Tuesday." Jan 22, 09 12:05 PM

$19 million in Southampton Town capital budget unaccounted for

Holy Cow!!! We are going on about a couple of hundred thousand and letting go of good people on our appointed boards, and Kabot loses 19 million. We have seen major improvements to Keirnan's and Kabot's offices in town hall, a new faux slate roof, a 3.5 million dollar TEMPORARY courthouse and none of it went to any kind of public referendum. Why is our Town Supervisor denying that she is hiding anything from the board or the public….hmmm? Smacks of “I am not a crook”. It seems like now is a time for our ethics board to get involved." Jan 24, 09 10:58 AM

How is it that the Town Council Representatives cannot get an accurate accounting of the Towns expenditures? Throne-Hulse had been asking Kabot for this information? If she can't get from Kabot how are the people suppose to get real numbers from the supervisor?" Jan 26, 09 8:24 AM
