East Hampton Town to hold deer summit after wildlife group protests

I've lived here all my life (50 yrs)and have only heard of one occasion of someone being shot accidentally during hunting season. Now, I would guess there have been more, I don't follow the news that much, but trust me, more people are hit walking across the street than are accidentally shot. So hearing someone say something as idiotic as your "fear of being shot", makes me seeth. This place has a rich heritage of hunting and fishing. For me and many others, getting sustenance directly from the land, whether by hunting, fishing, or farming makes me/us feel more connected to this earth than sitting at a desk somewhere to pick up shrink-wrapped meat, that someone else slaughtered, on the way home. And trust me, that heritage is likely to disappear soon enough. Tthose shots were ringing out long before most of the people that complain ever came out here. That heritage will likely die out soon enough and the culture that contained it. If you move to a place where people hunt with guns, you're going to hear guns." Jan 7, 10 2:32 PM

at least roadkill is free of steroids and antibiotics and not wrapped in (one time use) Styrofoam and cellophane!..." Jan 10, 10 10:54 AM

East Hampton Building Inspector suspended after Sag Harbor altercation

I know Mr. Preiato personally and also happen to have seen that, like many people that carry badges, when he opens his wallet, his badge is on one side and his license is on the other. And, of course, that doesn't shed any light whether he "flashed his badge" or was merely identifying himself to the police.
From what I have heard "on the street", I agree it seems like a mountain is being made out of a molehill. With respect to all those involved, many (or most) of us might react the way Mr. Preiato did when it comes to defending ones offspring, police included." Jan 28, 10 9:42 PM

Myriad views on deer control in East Hampton Town

Did I forget to mention the killing of plants!? Because we do that too Caroline, ahh, but we don't know if they feel pain and thankfully we don't have the means to find out nor the ability to relate to what a plant's life means to the plant. And thank God for that because if we were able to find that they feel pain as well, what would that leave... rocks & dirt! But then we might find that they..........................................................................................I'm going to bed" Mar 15, 10 10:05 PM

Health care reform bill gets mixed reviews on East End

Can any tell me why, if I can google earth and see my own house, we didn't know with certainty that Saddam had WMD? Do we really think we can defeat terrorism by chasing handfuls of terrorists around their own country when they don't even have a united front with which to wage war? (Seems much of the killing and damage they do to our military men is via IED's) And as I recall, this "war" as it is now so freely called was never declared. (We just sort of snuck in the back door with that one) And how come, after all these years, we still haven't found Osama Bin Laden? Now bear in mind if you will, didn't Bush project that this war would cost something like 87 million? Any body have the current tally? Billions guys, probably trillions by the time we're done!!! You mean to tell me that we couldn't have paid for health care and secure our borders with that kind of money!? I hear all the rhetoric about Obama's health care bill bankrupting us, why are we so willing to spend money on death and destruction in another country, but so many are in an uproar about spending it on the health of the people of the United States of America? On another note, something like 120,000 innocent civilian Iraqi's have been killed during this "liberation". That's 40 times the number of people that died in the twin towers. This whole "war" has been a mess from the beginning, and the man responsible for it has quietly rode into the sunset! Yee Ha" Apr 1, 10 11:33 PM
