Turmoil continues in Tuckahoe; commissioner will decide fate of school board

Those of us parents who know the history of the math and the other problems of the older grades, HAVE to speak out. Mr. Grimaldi is absolutely correct in every area of his statements and criticisms. There has been silence for too long. I was at a board meeting back in June 2009 when the problem of the math became known. I wanted to know what was going on and Mrs. Grindle and Mrs. Riccardi did a presentation on the math and the problems that we were having right in front of Mrs. Rozzi and the rest of the board and the public. It was a teacher who asked Mrs. Grindle how the math was being taught in Tuckahoe and Mrs. Grindle explained it perfectly right in front of everyone. There really is no secret or any lie. It is all on tape since they tapes their meetings anyway. And never once did Mrs. Rozzi say that any of this information was incorrect. We parents of the older children know it and thank you Mrs. Grindle for fighting the powers that be to correct it." Feb 11, 10 2:42 PM

There really is no lying going on because everything is on tape. What one thing has to do with the other is, all this trouble seems to have started after Mrs. Rozzi resigned. However the repeated shouts of she was fired or was forced to resign has created all these problems. Again not knowing all the details you don't need to be a genius to put 2 and 2 together and see from all these postings that obviously there was a big problem in the older grades. When your child has trouble in school no matter what grade they are in it still is a problem for both your child and you. To fix the math problem parents had to pay out of pocket to get their child tutored in an area that they were suppose to have learned. And it had to be done while the children were learning a new math that they had trouble with because they had not learned the first math well enough. When your child struggles and is upset and feels stupid it is unbearable for them and you. They are miserable and feel like failures. No child or family should be subject to that especially when the principal new what was going on and never told anyone. That's truly the crime. These kids have been effected educationally and emotionally. We need to fix the math and the other areas that need fixing and move forward. But we can't be afraid to speak about it and try to work it out together because one day everyone's child will be in the older grades." Feb 11, 10 6:52 PM

We need to shift focus from personalities and bring the discussion back to the education and the programs at the school. These are really the things that affect our children not these personalities. But it seems like these postings are just like the few board meeting I've been to, as soon as the topic changes from the yelling at the board or each other and we begin the to have a real discussion about our programs people get up an walk out. The personality's are not the issue, it's the classes and what our children are learning that is most important. We need to focus on what really matters to our children and what will impact them as they go forward in their education and leave the personalities out. Otherwise we are not going to get anywhere...and neither will our children." Feb 12, 10 8:09 AM

Yet again when the conversation is about well thought out, intelligent, pragmatic, honest questions and issues nobody wants to have the discussion and it deteriorates to accusations and insults. The discussion of the quality of education and the question of more board members are two different issues but both can be discussed without the conversation getting nasty. We need real solutions to real problems that face our district and name calling does not change that or help it." Feb 12, 10 11:32 AM

One more time, the anger, the venom, the sheer hatred spewed from the comments written here, make it impossible to carry on any intelligent, unemotional conversation about any and/or all issues. The palpable spite and prejudice that comes through these words, clouds any and all efforts to go forward. It is too bad. It would appear that Mrs. Grindle has it right. My last words to her are, thank you and keep up the good work, MANY of us know how hard you work for our district and although you do not hear it enough, we appreciate it very much. Don't Stop. Have a nice vacation all....good-bye" Feb 12, 10 3:10 PM

Tuckahoe Parents Concerned Over Future Of District

We are ONE community. We are the doctors and nurses, teachers and custodians, dentists and plumbers, electricians and lawyers, landscape artists and landscapers, tile and brick layers, administrators and local business owners, bankers and tellers, stay at home parents and traveling sales men and women etc., etc., etc., who ALL care and contribute to this town we ALL call OUR collective home. We are Southampton and if we want a better educational institution for our children than we should all come together and work together toward that end, instead of trying to tear each other down, which benefits no one and hurts the children most of all. Dear Obbservant, Enough with the name calling, we, the Tuckahoe parents ARE NOT yahoos as you so frequently like to call us. We are hard working community members who support our town, volunteer in our schools, coach and cheer on our teams, and take our children to art and music lessons. We are Brownie leaders, Den mothers, scout masters and religion teachers. We spend hours helping our kids with homework and support every effort that has been made over the years to correct and enhance our children's education. If you speak from personal experience with Tuckahoe then say so and if so what was or is your problem. I have had many children go through this district and I know that we have hard working teachers and good leadership now which was fought for by past boards who dedicated themselves completely to making this school better. As for the board now, these individuals are committed to good education but may have some tunnel vision when it comes to SH. Ripping children out of the high school they attend, is never a good idea educationally, socially or psychologically. However, name calling and ranting about us "yahoos" certainly is not appropriate or appreicated either and does little to help the situation. We need calm and constructive dialogue that allows us to work collectively to create an atmosphere that is condusive for positive outcomes. You are invited to be a part of that. " Oct 12, 13 8:51 PM

UPDATE: Southampton Voters Overwhelmingly Defeat Merger Proposal In Straw Vote Tuesday

Well Tuckahoe board it is now time for you to grow some back bone or remove yourselves from this decision making process. You each have personal connections to this situation that make you completely un-objective when coming up with solutions. We will not allow you to destroy our elementary school and middle school for the high school. You tuition the high school students...find somewhere else to go OR stand up and finally put an end to the fiscal rape that has been done by Southampton and demand a fair and reasonable tuition rate......its way past time" Oct 29, 13 9:30 PM

Southampton Students Protest Failed Merger Vote

Southampton COMPLETELY redlined Tuckahoe leaving all the high tax properties within Southampton's boarders. Look at the how the district maps are drawn, they ABSOLUTELY make no sense, homes right down the block or those that are on the water down by the bay that are much closer to Tuckahoe are in Southampton school district's boarders instead, same on our southern boarder near Hill Street....EXTREMELY INEQUITABLE

Tuckahoe Officials Uncertain About Future Of School District

Can't believe I actually agree with you Obbservant but I do. That board meeting was the biggest waste of time, truly insulting to us as the taxpayers who hand over our hard earned money for them to take care of and use wisely. A COMPLELETE DISAPPOINTMENT. It really is time for new people up there. These are the same people for the past 30 years ENOUGH ALREADY. and stop begging Southampton to take us. They don't understand how we have subsidized their district for all these years and helped to keep their taxes down and how OUR taxes supported their jaunts to the golf courses in our district. Our problem is even some of our own community members can't see past SH as the only possibility and sounded last night they were kissing the behinds of our board, commending them for a job well done, are you kidding me....pathetic and disgusting. Sheer incompetence all the way around. and the sad part of it all, is that we all new going in this is what we would hear,, well we get what we deserve " Nov 5, 13 9:01 PM

shortsighted, sneaky and stupid" Nov 5, 13 9:11 PM

Dodger, I did some digging after reading your comments and came away with some very interesting information about our board members, none of it good. Back a number of years ago there was a lot of the same talk that I have recently heard again, these guys have NO business being on board. Also a while ago there was a board member who did try very hard to clean up the mess academically and financially and got a lot of grief for it,, but it is to that board member's credit that at least the kids got the right academics that they were suppose to. I was also at those meetings where she got yelled at for trying to reign in spending and the teachers wore black tee shirts crying poverty. The district can't have it both ways
You either want someone to take a stand and say no to more spending or you don't. All the students including my own who graduated after the academics got straightened out are much better off as well as those that are still there. We need more people willing to stand up and take the heat for doing what needs to be done, but after watching all the craziness, who would want to put themselves out there, not to many people. After re-reading all the old articles, it also appears that the newest current board member probably got the seat from illegal manipulation of the votes, not a surprise after reading everything I have on all these men. But why doesn't anybody care, like I said we are handing over our VERY hard earned money to these people who seemingly use to for their own advantage, there should be outrage not a-- kissing. unless of course these complementary community members are getting something out of it....you never know. Again we get what we deserve unless we are willing to take a stand or in my case, send the kids to OLH/Mercy, at least my family will be happy" Nov 6, 13 7:49 PM

Well well well, these posts are getting more interesting, Local 39, It is you that appears to be on a "high horse". You seem to think you are so much more educated than others based upon your excellence at spelling but you show just how uneducated you are by not being able to tolerate opinions that are different than yours. You are right SH is not a "blue ribbon" school so should we all just accept mediocrity as a the norm and not try for to reach for something better? And by the way, I do go to the BIG church and confess my sins, maybe I'll see you there. As for you Progressnow, time and time again you have referred to Obbservant as a past board member, with some "personal axe to grind". I know the three women who served as board members. All of them, in my opinion, gave their best to the school to improve it in many ways, NONE of them would speak about the school the way Obbservant does, so maybe it is you with a personal axe to grind. Which leads me to you Obbservant. You write about honesty and transparency however you let others believe that you could be a past board member, which you know you are not. To obtain the leadership that you so desire for the Tuckahoe school and the community, there is no place like home to start. Be the example that you so desire yourself, and state the truth, these women have worked hard to make changes and don't need others to think your toxic comments are theirs. I would think that they could state their opinions themselves and in their own names" Nov 9, 13 11:50 AM

Housing Proposal Would See Last Tract Of Undeveloped Land In Tuckahoe Built On

Tuckahoe Superintendent Chris Dyer Up For Position In Iowa

Llam there are actually two long standing board members and the other with no new opinion only arrogance They get what they deserve and if no one else wants to run what does that say about the school" Apr 23, 15 11:16 PM

Southampton Town, Suffolk County To Try Out Yellow Light Plan To Ease Traffic

This is absolutely a terrible idea. There is an entire community of people who live south and north of these lights and depend upon them to get to work and get their children to school. What about the school buses that pick up the students in these areas and need to traverse these roads both east and west and now will not be se to??!! Very very poor planning from "politicans" who think they know better There is also a school district that located right by the Magee street light, what are they suppose to do?? And the biggest kick of all is the proposed Tuckahoe shopping center is located just a few feet from this traffic light Shoppers are now going to have to maneuver around a inking mom turning light.... That's rather amusing. And finally what about the cost of the officers standing there directing traffic. Again a very very poorly laid out plan don't do it!!!" May 11, 15 5:02 PM

Parents Challenge Westhampton Beach School Board To Create More Special Needs Programs

Ambrosini has been bad news for years. The administration knows it and so does the board. While Westhampton may enjoy the reputation of being the "best" east end school they must simultaneous share the title of worst school when it comes to educating special Ed students " May 12, 15 6:13 PM

Start going to board meetings call the appropriate state Ed authorities get petitions signed if applicable get all your ducks in a row with IEP info state law info and whatever other pertinent info you need and FIGHT. Make noise there might even be a special education advocate who could help you. Be strong be prepared grow some tough skin and don't give up! Good luck" May 13, 15 5:40 PM

Southampton Town To Test Blinking Light System To Reduce Traffic

As usual politicians telling us local residents what's best for us. There are whole full time local communities that live north and south of CR39 and use these streets to drive to schools, the village, and work these are our local streets why do we have to capitulate to the trade parade and others who don't live here. I agree the traffic is herendous but find an alternative to it sthe LIRR shuttle idea has been around for a while good idea. Or some type of by-pass either way the traffic problem isn't going away. Inconviencing the locals is not the answer" Mar 3, 16 2:50 PM

Shinnecock Man Killed While Crossing County Road 39 On Foot Friday Night

Very sorry for the loss of Mr. Eleazer and the many other pedestrians who have lost their lives on this strip of highway. When is the town going to do something about all the deadly accidents that happen right around this part of the highway. We need street lights and a closer watch of motorists speeding butt now our poorly informed supervisor wants to take away the stop light there during the busiest time of the morning, not a good idea. We need things that slow down traffic not speed it up. " Apr 9, 16 6:31 PM

Engineers To Collect Traffic Data In Southampton Town This Week In Preparation For County Road 39 Blinking Light Program

Terrible idea. You are holding a community who north and south of the highest hostage to the traffic. These are our local streets it is our tax dollars that take dare of these streets. With all the deadly accidents that happen in this road, you want to help people speed through. The lights allow for people to cross and for cars to slow down. Slow down the development everywhere. And how are people living in those new condos at the corner of Tuckahoe lane suppose to traverse the roads. People need to go to work and school. You are crippling us. Bad idea " Apr 13, 16 4:57 PM

Southampton Town Board To Discuss Proposed Tuckahoe Road Rerouting Idea At August Work Session

If we really want to make our voices heard we should organize as a group. Get the word out with ads, word of mouth to neighbors, churches, work places. Possibly get petitions signed outside of Stop n Shop, CVS, Rite Aid etc. and work with the Tuckahoe advisory committee. Contact school board and get as many people as possible to attend this meeting and recommend an evening session as well so all citizens can be heard if we really want to stop it we have to do something about it" Jul 14, 16 3:30 PM

Details Of Tuckahoe Road Reroute Proposal Emerge Amid Community Outcry At Work Session

Again an entire year round population whose hard earned monies, pay the taxes for this road, are held hostage to the"summer people". First it was no turning at this traffic light and now it's no use of the road. When will enough be enough. If we don't band together in tangible ways, to let our voices be heard, we will loose. Definitely an evening town board meeting and maybe getting together ourselves to plan other things we could do to get this information out. Not everyone reads the paper and knows and AGAIN the communities that live north and south of the gold course need to know and get involved. As do we all!!" Aug 4, 16 5:14 PM
