Southampton Village mayor foresees legal battle over proposed Tuckahoe commercial mall

I have read Supervisor Throne-Holst's viewpoint in today's Southampton Press and what I take away is that she simply does not get it. The Supervisor asserts that "just saying NO" to this proposal would, leave the community vulnerable to "another car dealership or the like." This is an old political ploy - a bait and switch, if you will (the very same tactic also used by the developers' lawyer at the Tuckahoe CAC meeting a few weeks back) - and completely irrelevant to this discussion.

Mr. Morrow is proposing a monstrous strip-mall in an area not zoned for that use and with NO benefit to this community and that is the issue. If the car lot comes next, so be it, we will fight that too, but let's not try to blur the focus.

Ms. Throne-Holst vows, "Rest assured, unless I have the community's clear support . . . I will not vote in favor of it." Ms. Supervisor, were you briefed on the Tuckahoe CAC meeting where the entire community in attendance and the entire CAC said, "we don't want this"? Have you read the comments on this site? Have you read the many letters to the editor in the SH Press written by people who vehemently oppose this mini-mall? I know you've received a number of emails opposing this project. Have you listened to village shop owners? Are you listening to the Mayor?

One thing is abundantly clear, you do not "have the community's clear support" and what we want is for you to "just say no." Anything less is simply unacceptable.

This project never should have been allowed to come this far in the first place and the fact that all five board members voted unanimously to move forward with consideration only means that the entire process is suspect.

Tuckahoe School District seeks stability in extending superintendent's contract

“The strife and dislocation that arose both within the school district community and the community at large could not have been anticipated when the six-month waiver was sought (and approved),” Are you kidding me? The "strife and dislocation" were well known beforehand, Mr. Seaman, and to attempt to say otherwise is disingenuous at best. " Jun 24, 10 11:42 AM

Energy-producing windmill would be the only one in East Hampton

Given the amount of money and resources available in East Hampton it is fairly unbelievable that this windmill would be the first. We have to make it easier for residents to install energy producing alternatives to gas and oil - personally, I think these windmills are beautiful." Jun 25, 10 1:48 PM

Observant, I believe your comments are out of order. Every time someone brings up an issue of importance to them, there are ten or 15 waiting in the wings to tell them to "stop bellyaching"

Mr. Seaman's responses are a clear misrepresentation of what actually happened.

Your comments are also an unfortunate misrepresentation of the truth. Tuckahoe's state test scores are far from "shameful". What is to be gained by saying so? I would assert that you are perpetuating the very same practices you claim to disdain.

You want to put an end to small town politics, stop advocating for sweeping everything under the rug and then try using your real name on these boards. Everyone here knows who I am.

Past is prologue." Jun 26, 10 9:16 AM

Southampton Village mayor foresees legal battle over proposed Tuckahoe commercial mall

Observant, wasn't it you who on another article said, "Let's keep our eye on the ball - striving for . . . not petty, laughable small town politics for people with too much time on their hands! "

You need to follow your own advice. Additionally, as already pointed out by others, Supervisor Throne-Holst is NOT a democrat, but and independent. The only person who did not take a donation from Morrow was the only democrat on the board, Ms. Fleming.

Perhaps if you spent more time reviewing the facts and less time "bellyaching" about Democrats then your input would be taken seriously." Jun 28, 10 5:37 PM

Southampton Town PDD process upside down, critics say

Nature is absolutely correct. "Wow, we really like having this grocery store" is not a "public benefit" in terms of the language of a PDD." Jul 1, 10 7:51 PM

Ridiculous, please don't try to make this about "big government" telling people what to do. The property owners bought that land knowing exactly what it was zoned for. If they want to build there in accordance with that zoning that is, of course, their right. The "government" in this case and so many others has not stood in the way, in fact, it has historically been all to willing to allow developers to whatever they like. It is the people of this district that are fighting this mini-mall and we are trying to convince the "government" to stick to the rules. " Jul 1, 10 8:01 PM

Southampton Town planner defends Tuckahoe planned development district

The individuals on the Planning Department are either a) completely out of touch with the people in this community b) in the pockets of the developers c) cozy/friendly with the developers AND in their pockets) a bunch of ___ or e) all of the above

In the end, if this plan is allowed to move forward, the responsibility will fall directly in the lap of the supervisor" Jul 8, 10 9:22 AM

I just read the entire article in the Southampton Press and Mr. Murphee is clearly nothing more than a shill for big development. His comments show a complete and arrogant lack of understanding regarding what this district "needs". He clearly sees his role as one of approval and not denial and his remarks are evidence of a government gone bad." Jul 8, 10 10:25 AM

The planning board members are appointed by the Town Board. To assert that they have no say is simply nonsense. They were put there for a reason and that is to bolster opinions of the board." Jul 8, 10 11:48 AM

If Mr. Murphree had no say, then why is he making such public statements concerning a PDD that, as you insist, has nothing to do with him? These positions are all interrelated and all work together to ensure developers are well taken care of.

Mr Murphree is CLEARLY speaking on behalf of Robert Morrow and NOT the residents of this district whom he accuses of misunderstanding this scope of this development. No, we understand clearly what is going down. Whether or not this project has grown or not throughout the process is completely irrelevant. We do not want it." Jul 8, 10 1:30 PM

I agree that Mr. Murphy most likely represents the feelings of the Town Board, most of whom seem to be ignoring public opinion and siding with the money." Jul 8, 10 2:28 PM

A couple of posters have pointed out some egregious conflicts of interest of which most of us, including myself, are probably unaware. As Nature pointed out, Mr. Murphree predates Ms. Holst so his former decisions do not automatically become hers. However, as the current Supervisor I believe it is her responsibility to clean house.

Ms.Throne-Holst started off on the wrong foot by taking advantage of the lapse of some campaign finance disclosure rules and some of her recent statements have left many wondering on who's side she stands. Well, here is a perfect opportunity for her to stand not only with the community over big developers, but to put an end to clear ethical conflicts and reform PDD language and usage.

Many believe that the Tuckahoe Main Street PDD approval is a foregone conclusion, but I believe the community does still have some power as long as they demand to be heard." Jul 9, 10 10:00 AM

34 East Montauk Hwy is right next to Mr. Morrows Hampton Bays King Kullen mini-mall and appears to be home to a number of physicians. A quick search of the New York Secretary of State business records turned up this: http://appext9.dos.state.ny.us/corp_public/CORPSEARCH.ENTITY_INFORMATION?p_nameid=3977092&p_corpid=3425858&p_entity_name=southampton%20venture%2C%20llc&p_name_type=A&p_search_type=BEGINS&p_srch_results_page=0

The names of the folks behind the LLC can be found on the certificate, a copy of which can only be requested by mail. Suffice it to say, the splash ad was most likely paid for by the developers. " Jul 9, 10 10:32 AM
