UPDATE: East Hampton Town Officials Denounce Violence In Charlottesville

Blacks who were never slaves are fighting whites who were never Nazis over a Confederate statue erected by southern Democrats because now Democrats can't stand their own history anymore......yet somehow it's Trumps fault!" Aug 22, 17 1:07 PM

I watched the fighting in Charlottesville and could not tell who was who. After getting facts, learned one group had permit to organize, the other did not. Police allowed the group without permit to go unchecked. There is no such thing as peaceful provoking or peaceful instigating. The mayor should be removed from office for not allowing police to arrest counter protesters.

Libs want to limit who gets a permit to organize. They can’t. United States allows groups to organize by scheduling events so they don’t all happen at the same time. Group A was scheduled and legally permitted to demonstrate, and Group B was not.

Municipalities have mayors. States have governors. Charlottesville handled this poorly." Aug 24, 17 2:51 PM

Immigrants are either legal or illegal and there is no grey area because if they entered the country illegally and without documentation, with children without documentation, their status does not change no matter how long they remain in country. Many in the illegal community were en-powered by community activists’ to get out and speak out, and as a result they’ve lived quite comfortably, meaning they were not afraid to make demands in the same manner that legal citizens do. Everyone must have noticed that. An illegal immigrant that entered the country without documentation may never be able to become a legal citizen, however, they may never be deported unless they’ve committed a crime.

Drug Overdoses Claim Two Lives

Stop buying these kids cellphones. Kids use them to get into trouble, send inappropriate photos of themselves that end up on the internet and to buy drugs. Better to give them more responsibility at home (ongoing chores) to make them grow up and gain a sense of accomplishment. " Sep 19, 17 4:13 PM

Princess Diner Workers Were Sexually Harassed, Threatened With Deportation, Advocacy Group Says

I say give the owners their day in court before throwing the towel in on all these allegations. It's up to a judge and jury. On the subject of St. Rosalie's I say, "Wake up and smell the Taco!" BTW... they're not the only Catholic church on the east end. " Sep 27, 17 5:29 PM

Hampton Bays Moe's Closes Its Doors

A problem with Hampton Bays is that it's beginning to look like the kind of place you go to spend your last years of life... with commercial pharmacies (Rite Aid, and soon Walgreens) and multiple walk-in medical clinics peppering the main street in the hamlet. It's a huge turnoff to visitors. I wonder if the town planners or chamber of commerce see this? I'd plan pharmacies and clinics further West, in the area of Moe's and work to attract more interesting, small businesses on the main drag to serve both Tourist' and locals alike. We could use a sit down Bakery, and where can you buy homemade Chocolates in handsome boxes in this vicinity? Hand cut fries. Hot dogs. Pancakes? Load up the village with small, independent businesses and attract more families and young people to the Bays, including businesses that stay open at night! " Sep 29, 17 12:59 PM

When you exit the highway in Hampton Bays, the first thing you should see is signage directing drivers to a FREE municipal parking lot, and with one goal in mind: to attract every car that passes through to stop and stay a while. But there is no municipal parking lot. The area where the new park was created behind Main street business’ would have made an ideal municipal lot where you could park, then walk out onto Main street. Tourist need places to visit or they’ll go elsewhere. During peak summer weekends, those two historic houses should be offering free house tours (by donation). Otherwise, I’d park a colorful Food Truck and picnic table out in front of them both and serve Lobster BLT’s… that would turn some heads. I’d offer weekend ghost tours by lantern through Good Ground Cemetery, and encouraging all business’ to stay open until 9 pm. If people put their heads together, I’m sure there are lots of ideas to get people to sit and stay a while, both day and night. " Oct 3, 17 5:09 PM

Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman To Leave Independence Party, Join Democrats

"What's wrong with calling it workers housing or workforce housing?"

I prefer to call it "migrant housing," and since most of this work is out east, all towns (and taxpayers) should help with this crisis. But I won't be voting for Tommy John because he doesn't understand what the folks in Hamptons Bays are dealing with. " Oct 31, 17 2:38 PM

Democrats Sweep In Southampton Town Elections

Southampton Town Police Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa Settles Discrimination Lawsuit

A lot of qualified people that do a good job don't get promoted, especially when there are several candidates to choose from. I agree that this should have gone to trial as somebody else pointed out. We will never know the specifics. " Nov 29, 17 4:36 PM

Southampton Town Board Member Won't Attend Work Sessions Until School Ends

"I'm sure that you, as I, while working in corporate America or those running their own business for decades, were rewarded with a lot more than $60,000 a year for the time put in. Full time efforts demand full time pay."

You cannot compare the salaries being paid in NYC and Wall Street to the salaries paid on the east end or in Sag Harbor. I don't see why TomJohn thinks he's worth a Manhattan salary for being a teacher. He sounds like a bum. " Jan 10, 18 12:49 PM

Many Merchants Taken By Surprise By New Fee For Disposable Bags

They should have banned the bags a long time ago since people got in the habit of going shopping without bringing anything to put the stuff in, so now it seems like a burden. " Jan 13, 18 12:51 AM

Women's March Draws A Crowd In Sag Harbor On Saturday

If I wrote about my feelings toward Facebook my post would be removed, and that isn’t Freedom of Speech, but censorship. When people are asked to put their name on something, they probably won’t due to fear of retaliation and we won’t hear the other side of the argument. Learn to share the forum rather than to control the forum.

I don’t agree with the women’s march because I don’t believe half of these women (maybe more) know what they’re marching for, or the consequences on a national level. There’s an old saying, “Be careful what you wish for.”

Hampton Bays School District Files $10.6 Million Notice Of Claim Against Town Over Illegal Rentals

I'm trying to follow this and if I'm not mistaken, this appears to be the issue.

A one bedroom hotel room that was meant to accommodate from 1-2 people for a short-term stay, is now being used to accommodate as many as 2-3 families all using the same address for residential year-round occupancy, including multiple school aged children, whose families non-disclosed income qualifies them for financial education relief and free lunch, placing a tremendous burden on the tax payers of Hampton Bays and the school.

The Town of Southampton that wishes to assist its high end community businesses with conveniently located living arrangements for its labor force has turned a blind eye to the illegal use of these hotel/motel units, in hopes of containing its labor force within the hamlet and may be taking steps and/or changing laws to make the units appear to be legal.

The department of code enforcement is not enforcing policies pertaining to the illegal use of the hotels/motels and the impact on the septic systems, community resources, etc. and instead, are targeting legitimate rental homes for smaller offenses, such as renting without a permit or renting outside of a permitted time frame, and causing much controversy and bickering until somebody files a lawsuit.

I may wrong, but it’s what I’ve gathered to be the facts concerning this situation.

New Owners Of Former Hampton Bays Diner Plan To Maintain Building As An Eatery

I never saw a Five Guys burger joint with an empty parking lot. Inexpensive and quick turnaround, plus the young people like these kinds of places. I wouldn't mind something on this idea, whether it be a chain or independant eatery. There are plenty of sit down restaurants around. " Feb 6, 18 1:25 PM

Southampton School Officials Nix Columbus Day In Favor Of Indigenous Peoples' Day On School Calendars

"Dr. Dyno said more than 58 municipalities across the United States have designated the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, as have universities like Syracuse University and many SUNY schools."

I think it's ridiculous when people believe they have to follow suit and do as the Romans... and I think it's sad when adults allow children in classrooms to dictate these kinds of changes. The question should be on a ballot the community to vote on. I agree with the Tutt's and applaud those that voted against changing the name. For me, it will always be Columbus Day. " Feb 14, 18 1:06 PM

I think they should make deals with these children. They get the holiday re-named only if they agree to the terms: We change the laws pertaining to cellphones and place age restrictions on who can own and use a cell phone. Children would be banned until they grow up and can vote. Then we raise the age requirement on voting, and, in order to vote you have to have good credit, have paid off at least 2 loans and not be living home with mom or dad. Agreed? " Feb 16, 18 7:42 PM

I'm not surprised, either way, but teachers shouldn't be bringing politics into the classroom, and if they're caught doing it, should be suspended. " Feb 18, 18 3:31 PM

East Hampton Vigil Will Honor Lives Lost In Parkland, Florida

I'd like to see a vigil honoring the police officers killed in the line of duty, by gunfire, vehicle or assault. Check out the available data to view their names, photos and details. It's astounding how many there are. They even include the police dogs. I'd like to see a vigil for the soldiers coming home from Iraq and Afganistran, whose 15 minutes of fame ends up a 30 second blurb on the evening news, and then they're forgotten. State Senate Democrats Fail To Force Vote On Gun Safety Legislation

I've read statistics that within 1 year in the U.S., some 6,000 people died in car crashes as a result of cell phones and drunk driving and I’ll bet everyone on this forum has witnessed people driving while talking on cellphones and personally know people that drink excessively that still get behind the wheel of a car or boat.
I don't support putting armed guards in the schools, nor do I support altering or restricting the 2nd amendment. " Mar 5, 18 10:09 AM

Southampton Town Leaders Accuse Zeldin Of Making 'Misleading' Comments About Hampton Bays During White House Visit

"The day after she was one of three Republican senators to vote against her party's proposal to repeal chunks of the Affordable Care Act, Susan Collins of Maine posted a press release that said: "Democrats made a big mistake when they passed the ACA without a single Republican vote. I don't want to see Republicans make the same mistake."

Susan Collins should change her party to Democrat. That's what she really is. " Mar 8, 18 12:02 PM

Some months ago I found a website with shocking information. I believed the story I had read and told family and friends about it. One of them did some research and couldn’t find anything to support what I had told them, and asked me for proof. So I did my own research and couldn’t find anything to support it, either. Then I went back onto the original site (which was difficult to find the second time around), and studied it closely. The website was owned by a Ukranian guy, who wrote satire. But, man, was I fooled, and embarrassed. I now take what I hear now with a grain of salt. I guess that’s what they mean when they talk about fake news. " Mar 8, 18 11:35 PM

East End Schools Plan For March 14 Walkout

The school administration must put on their big boy pants and deal with these issues with courage. Instead, they cowardly cater to student’s political agendas. If students gets hurt as a result of the walk out rally, it will come back to haunt the administration for not taking action to prevent it. " Mar 9, 18 10:55 AM

Southampton Town Leaders Accuse Zeldin Of Making 'Misleading' Comments About Hampton Bays During White House Visit

What is mental illness anymore? Practically everything falls under this category. Probably 1 in 3 people have had an episode of depression at one time or another, a loss of a pet, spouse, divorce, and they get over it. But doctors were handing out anti-depressant drugs like candy, (a form of Government control), so now everybody has a record. This is not what our founding fathers intended, and therefore, I do not support it. " Mar 9, 18 11:13 AM
