Oh great! Mike Hartley's back toting The Independent again. The only thing that paper is good for is packing up dishes and lining bird cages. Again I ask, why do you bother reading and commenting here if you don't like what they report?" Jun 10, 09 2:17 PM
No Mike Hartley, neither I nor any of my family members work for 27east and I can assure you that I am most certainly not Beth Young. However, your posts make it pretty clear that you work for The Independent. I'd hide behind an alias too if I worked for that rag. " Jun 10, 09 8:40 PM
What a victory for the village of Sag Harbor! This is great news.
PS to tenny2745: Pipe down killjoy, because you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Not only are the Village of Sag Harbor's roads are some of the best maintained in the area, they hardly constitute a 'roadway system.'
The roads throughout the Hamptons are under the jurisdiction of Southampton Town, East Hampton Town, Suffolk County or the State of NY. " Jun 30, 09 3:19 PM
This kid deserves a big head, he added dedication to his talent and now he's got a lot to show for it. Way to go Mike!" Jun 30, 09 3:24 PM
I guess this issue is, MrRight, that Kabot was part of the previous administration, so she help create what she's now claiming to have inherited, it doesn't float.
Furthermore, the war in Iraq has made us no safer than before it started. It's just killed a lot of people and put us in tremendous amount of debt, you Republicans just don't seem to get that.
" Jul 16, 09 2:24 PM
What better way to have proved innocence by blowing into a breath analyzer or submitting to a blood alcohol test. Linda choose to do neither, obviously because she wouldn't have passed these tests.
She should done the honorable thing, like Steve Brautigam, and admitted her wrong doing. Instead, she's actually wants us to believe she's innocent? Dishonest and exactly why she should no longer be supervisor.
" Sep 10, 09 12:27 PM
I'm not sure what you are saying Sam? Kabot is pleading not guilty but she's not saying she is innocent. So you are saying, Kabot is not innocent of drinking and driving that night, right? You can't defend this, sorry.
I'm not a Kabot hater, I'm a drinking and driving hater. And if the Supervisor of the Town of Southampton cannot use better judgment before hoping in a car after she boozed it up at a party, how can we trust her judgment in the decisions she makes in her job?" Sep 10, 09 1:09 PM
Why not simply contact the organizer of the race and say, 'Hey you probably didn't realize but this race runs through private roads so next year come see us first and we can get the insurance stuff straightened out.'? Instead, they register a complaint about a charity fundraiser? Disgusting. This is a small town, how un-neighborly. If you want to make a point to the village about taking your streets over, use another avenue besides picking on an autism fundraiser. " Sep 24, 09 8:17 AM
I am well aware, everyone has a right not to blow into a breathalyzer. However, for the life of me, I cannot think of one reason why someone who is innocent of drinking and driving wouldn't choose to blow.
Could someone please tell me why Linda Kabot would want to spend the night in jail, loose her license for a year, deal with what will amount to be an expensive lawyer bill, add a court expense to a township, and get a lot of negative media coverage on an election year instead of simply blowing into a breathalyzer at the spot, proving her innocence and then going after the 'harassing officers' afterwards?
The only thing that makes sense to me is that she was worried she wasn't going to pass the test. Let's be honest, the only reason is that you know the chances of the charge being dropped is higher if you refuse to blow.
So please, let's stop diverting this issue. Forget the set up, forget this ridiculous letter or the conspiracy that somehow ATH has set up with the Westhampton Beach Village police and let's call a spade a spade.

Give a rest lady, we get your point and it's a stupid one." Oct 7, 09 10:48 AM
If I was a teacher, I'd protest too.
The Board hired Dr. Gratto, ignoring parents, ignoring teachers, ignoring an well-liked and qualified existing administrator, ignoring his abhorrent work history and after not negotiating with the teachers union for two years, they have the audacity to give Gratto a raise? A big raise at that? It's BS. " Oct 21, 09 10:00 AM
Well, when your town's supervisor gets charged with DWI and just realizes (after years in office) that $20 million has been misappropriated, there is room for speculation about everything she does." Oct 28, 09 2:47 PM
Sam, I'm not trying to start a back and forth with you, so apologies for it seeming that way.
To argue speculation doesn't hold weight is valid, so in fairness, you must then agree that Linda Kabot insistence on pursuing the 'speculation' that Anna Throne-Holst was called the night of her DWI arrest shouldn't be brought up in court, right? I don't know what is more speculative than an anonymous letter. " Oct 28, 09 3:00 PM
Bubba, sorry Bobba, I'm not sure if you are aware of this but Linda WAS part of prior administrations. Further, if President Obama was blaming others for mistakes made after being a major part of the presidential office for 12 years, I would equally have issue with it.
Good point courtesy! Editor, where do the candidate interviews take place? Do you go to Town Hall or do the candidates come to your office? Are they interviewed during normal business hours? If so, how did Linda get to your office? Who drove her? Husband, cab, co-worker? You have an office staff that greets people, someone must know." Oct 29, 09 9:33 AM
Comment after comment, same thing. If you are so unhappy with the reporting done by this newspaper and website, why do you come here daily to comment and read it?
Do you work for Newsday? Are you a disgruntled ex-employee? What's your point, something else is better? Shut up and take your negativity elsewhere." Nov 19, 09 9:12 AM
There are so many more businesses that support the community in Sag Harbor, I can't help but wonder why this drivel would be featured on the home page of the website? Editor?
Canio's services a very, very small slice of the community. They don't participate in the local Chamber meetings and they do little if anything for the children of Sag Harbor compared to the likes of the library, Bay Street and more. Disconnect further evident if you ever read the Maryann's column which seems like a continued advertisement for their own interests." Nov 30, 09 9:04 AM
That's a valid point MaryB, thank you. I guess this could be considered a way of reaching out to the community.
I guess I considered events sponsored in a retail outlet, especially ones they are asking the community to help pay for, aren't really things that their business is doing for their community. If Bookhampton has a book signing and reading, is that considered something they are doing for their community? I consider it just a means of driving people to their store.
Either way, this article seems like a blatant advertisement and I don't see why it's worthy of being featured." Nov 30, 09 12:04 PM
For crying out loud, for someone who is so engrossed in this case, I find it hard to believe that you would actually contact family members and quote a subject line without bothering to actually read the copy of the email. Which, from what I could tell, didn't differ from the first email." Dec 14, 09 2:12 PM
The 'very long fingers' thing is kind of creepy..." Jan 15, 10 4:32 PM
You are right, Mrs. Sea. That was inconsiderate, my apologies to the family of the missing man." Jan 15, 10 4:57 PM
The Cigar Bar has increasingly attracted a more surly crowd. It's unfortunate, only a couple of years ago it was 'the place' to go in The Hamptons. (PS, this was looong after the Bryon days. Nice guy but not a crowd pleaser.) Maybe losing their license is in order to clean up the crowd.
But I don't think underage drinking is so much the problem there.
The police always seem to walk through Cigar Bar and find fault but never Superica. I can personally attest seeing my 18 year old babysitter drinking a 'perfect' at the bar, and then coming in the next week and seeing another 17 year old I know drinking at the bar, that they serve underage drinkers, especially early in the evening before the bouncer gets there.
Maybe the crowd at Superica is whiter, maybe there aren't as many fights, maybe the owner is nicer, maybe the police like Mexican food, who knows. But it seems that they target Cigar Bar (again, I agree the fights are bad and the license should be taken away) for a lot and turn a blind eye to what's happening next door. " Jan 27, 10 3:11 PM
Uhmm, I pulled the bartender aside and told him the 18 year old was underage. Funny, he responded, 'yeah, that happens a lot here before the bouncer get here, thanks.'
When I returned the next week and they were serving YET ANOTHER underage kid (same bartender), I stopped going there, my husband and I didn't even stay that night. Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge.
Furthermore, I didn't say, nor whine, that it was unfair that the Cigar Bar got caught. To clarify it for you, I noted that the Cigar Bar always seems under attack, but there is blatant and known underage drinking that goes on next door and no one does anything about it." Jan 27, 10 4:27 PM
Isn't the definition of negotiating making an offer, receiving a counteroffer and then meeting somewhere in the middle? Kochanasz is right, there is no spirit of mutuality here.
Gratto was a mistake from the get go and it's atrocious that the he got a raise and teachers are STILL working without a contract. " Mar 10, 10 4:50 PM
Honest, hardworking person? Are you kidding? All this guy has ever done run around scamming people to invest in his businesses, which are poorly managed and don't make profits; i.e. Hamptons Telephone.
And apparently we are now learning, once he finds a sucker to help him out, he steals money, software, passwords, domain names and a VW bus? Come on. Honest??
" May 14, 10 1:19 PM
Thank you Debbie!" Jun 30, 10 3:25 PM
You are disconnected Peter Sabbath.
It is absolutely absurd that someone who writes a green blog has a Nespresso machine. This coffee maker not only wastes a plastic/metal capsule for every cup of coffee that is made it also seals the used grounds in the capsule so the grounds can't be composted. Same goes for the Keurig in the picture. How about a french press? A system that uses a metal filter, uses less energy, makes great espresso and coffee, and is great for small batches.
If you want to have a machine like that, go ahead, but don't try to pretend it's green buddy, cause it's not.

NOTE TO MR MORELLI: I think it's pretty safe to say that she does a good job of damaging her own reputation. Why doesn't this woman stop wasting tax payer money?
