Tea Party Meet the Candidates Night

my previous comment was directed at razza, not you,Ice." Aug 15, 10 7:27 AM

Rush made a point of repeatedly playing it on his nationally syndicated show.He was promoting rascism.
" Aug 15, 10 8:33 PM

I posted facts, which you have been unable to refute.
All you have is spin and talking points.
Weak.
" Aug 15, 10 8:34 PM

Obviously Rush's fans are unable to counter the facts presented, except to say "No,He isn't!"

LOL!!" Aug 15, 10 8:36 PM

Many of the proposed policies have been watered down in an attempt to gain bi-partisan support, which Obama will obviously never get.The only republicans who have supported him were the two from maine and Scott Brown from massachussetts-who won with tea party support but has been abandoned because he did vote for one of Obama's proposals-a vicrim of the RINO label." Aug 15, 10 8:40 PM

I don't waste time I'll never get back listening to him.
We don't rip 'anyone who is against our agenda';that's a strawman argument which is what the right does all the time.
we oppose ignorant, stupid, selfish, lying bullies who use their platform to spread hate and misinformation.

Rush is the defacto leader o the republican party. No republican can contradict or oppose him without having to apologise and kiss his butt afterward on his show." Aug 15, 10 10:13 PM

People can listen to both sides and decide which side is more inflammatory, which appeals to hate. They can fact check both sides as well and use that info in their decision.
Or they can just blindly listen to the commentators of their choice if it fits their personal preferences." Aug 16, 10 7:42 AM

Dick Armey?
Freedomworks?
let people decide for themselves.

naturally,you'll dispute the sources,but that's just part of the agenda,isn't it?" Aug 16, 10 7:55 AM

I'm givin an alternative to the information being spooned here .If your afraid of it,don't read it." Aug 16, 10 1:46 PM

What I posted wasn't my list, either,it was put together by a friend of mine who let me post it here.
But mine is factual." Aug 16, 10 1:54 PM

I don't see you providing anything but opinion and talking poits, neither of which anyone but you take seriously.
If you have sources, post them.I have other sources, too. But you would apparently just make noise than offer proof." Aug 16, 10 7:33 PM

The democrats don't march in lockstep like the republicans do;the tea party movement is just a way to get republicans back in power.Republicans started calling themselves independents when they became embarrassed by republican policies, now they're labeling themselves tea partiers and trying to get their candidates elected. There is little difference between the tea party policies and the republican policies of the past." Aug 16, 10 7:37 PM

what snopes link?" Aug 17, 10 11:39 AM

Keeping fingers crossed when it comes to hurricane preparedness

"Guns and ammo to protect your family and property from the looters and survival food "

"I've rode out a good number of hurricanes over the years and I'm prepared to do it again"

and how many people did you have to shoot?
" Aug 23, 10 10:35 AM

It's okay to stock up on guns and ammo if you're afraid of your neighbors." Aug 23, 10 12:30 PM

After all, they're armed with TRUTH LOL!" Aug 23, 10 1:40 PM

Congressional candidate Cox joins anti-abortion activists in protest at Bishop's office

They want less government-unless your a woman, gay or against infecting education with religion." Aug 28, 10 8:26 PM

The only time abortion is paid for with tax dollars is in cases of rape or incest.

The Hyde Amendment

After Roe v. Wade decriminalized abortion in 1973, Medicaid covered abortion care without restriction. In 1976, Representative Henry Hyde (R-IL) introduced an amendment that later passed to limit federal funding for abortion care. Effective in 1977, this provision, known as the Hyde Amendment, specifies what abortion services are covered under Medicaid.

Over the past two decades, Congress has debated the limited circumstances under which federal funding for abortion should be allowed. For a brief period of time, coverage included cases of rape, incest, life endangerment, and physical health damage to the woman. However, beginning in 1979, the physical health exception was excluded, and in 1981 rape and incest exceptions were also excluded.

In September 1993, Congress rewrote the provision to include Medicaid funding for abortions in cases where the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest. The present version of the Hyde Amendment requires coverage of abortion in cases of rape, incest, and life endangerment.
" Aug 28, 10 9:03 PM

And Obama is president.
enough said." Aug 29, 10 9:25 PM

One of the objects of government is to make the right decisions when the public is against it.
Gay marriage is coming, its a right outlined (but not specifically mentioned) in the Declaration of Independence and could probably beclaimed under the 9th amendment.
Universal healthcare will also become reality as the healthcare industry shoots itself in the foot y finding and takoing advantage of loopholes that will lead the majority farthertoward supporting the creation of a national healthcare system that will cover everybody." Aug 29, 10 9:44 PM

It isn't murder,its a legal medical procedure." Aug 29, 10 9:51 PM

I sell the things you need to be
I'm the smiling face on your tv
I'm the cult of personality
I exploit you, still you love me
I tell you one and one makes three
I'm the cult of personality
Like Joseph Stalin and Gandhi
I'm the cult of personality
The cult of personality
The cult of personality

You gave me fortune
You gave me fame
You gave me power in your god's name
I'm every person you need to be
I'm the cult of personality (I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of)
I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of (I'm the cult of)
I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of, I'm the cult of personality (I'm the cult of)
Ask not what your country can do for you
" Aug 29, 10 10:17 PM

Personal rsponsibility also applies to the father of the child.A woman doesn't get pregnant alone, but she is left that way to face a pregnancy and then told that she should have no choice but to face it alone.
Once the child is born, there are few choices for a woman-healthcare options are limited, there are few facilities for daycare available, employmen opportunities are limited even further. What's left is public assistance, which is under constant attack and threat.
It's easy to to tell someone else to have a baby when youchoose to abandon it after its birth." Aug 30, 10 7:57 AM

Beck is the leader of a cult, and Saturday 100,000 people proved it.That includes the people bused in from the tea party rally taking place the next day.
" Aug 30, 10 8:12 AM

Imagine that a house was on fire, and inside was a petri dish with some human cells and a year old baby. You go in,but you can only save one of them, not both. Which would you save?" Aug 30, 10 8:19 AM

It isn't support of abortion, its support of a woman right to make the choice for themselves. Forcing a woman to carry a fetus to term deprives a woman the opportunity to make a life-changing decision by forcing her to accept a situation she may not be ready for. And,as I stated in another post, she must take his on alone and without the support of society." Aug 30, 10 2:07 PM

Reagan was the one who set us on the economic path we're on now, along with being the one who stepped up our interventionest strategy. He is given credit for the Soviet Union collapsing under its own weight, and is also responsible for setting the course for the collapse of the middle class. He initiated the Southern strategy by choosing to kick off his campaign in Philadelphia,Mississippi where civil rights workers were killed in a deliberate attempt to employ a divisive strategy that targeted blacks. He also wasn't of sound mind for his last 2 years in office,
If we followed Carters' energy policies we'd be a lot less dependent on foeign oil and have had a 30 year head start on the rest of the world in environmentally safer energy." Aug 31, 10 10:10 PM

gee,your a bright one." Aug 31, 10 10:14 PM

Obama is slightly left of center;he only looks far left from the far right." Aug 31, 10 10:18 PM

Becks rally last weekend was an attempt to pull the religious right into the tea party realm. He said there would be no politics, but Palin and a few others blew that away." Aug 31, 10 10:20 PM

Funny, you don't mention the Newsweek poll-
http://www.newsweek.com/2010/08/27/newsweek-poll-democrats-may-not-be-headed-for-midterm-bloodbath.html

Does your poll list the methodology, other than what you posted? The Newsweek poll does.

It's easy to argue using cherrypicked information designed to mislead and misinform" Aug 31, 10 10:33 PM

I'm balancing out the crap your posting.I want peopkle to have other sources than the sided lie fest spouted by a bunch of tea monkeys." Sep 1, 10 6:21 PM

Bush was an idiot. The entire republican party is coming apart at the seams because of him;Ask anyone in the world and they'll tell you he was the biggest idiot and worst president in American history.
.

I don't think the republicans will do nearly as well as you think in ovember because they have no solid policies except to obstruct and oppose,as they have been doing for the last two years.Thry'll go the way of the whigs
The right will lead this country right into corporate fascism. That's exactly where the right is going..It has an extremist agenda promoted by talk radio and Fox news, and it's attracting all the less educated,as evidenced by the postings here." Sep 1, 10 6:33 PM

Glad you liked my post.Did you flag it?
I see you haven't refuted any of it.I'll back up any of those statements.

1- Bush was unable to sreing coherent sentences together
2-Look at what is going on in the republican party over the last 4 years
3-Bush alienated the U.S. from the rest of the world with his foreign policies
4-The republican policies are to oppse or repeal any current progam
5-The republican (Tea) party opposes wall street reform, supports big oil,and wants to create an aristocracy by supporting tax breaks for the elitist upper class
6-The agenda includes, but is not limited to the aforementioned policies
7-Rush Limbaugh,Sean Hannity,Glen Beck,Mark Levin,etc. The merchants of hate." Sep 2, 10 9:37 PM

Eliminate SS
Eliminate the DoE
Eliminate Medicare
repeal the healthcare law.
change the consttution (14th amendment)
these aren't extreme positions?
somebody has been using your teapot as a urinal." Sep 4, 10 7:41 PM

Yes,extremist positions.
If SS is eliminated, the disabled who are unable to work and dependent children
in poor families will have no source of income. It isn't only the elderly who depend on SS insurance.

The DoE asures that educational standards are set for the entirecountry;it regulates services and oversees minimum requirements that can be recognised throughout the entire country.Localising education standards would
not only make standards different between regions and states, but can affect differences within local areas by allowing different standards within grades. This would affect students' ability to attain higher education.
The DoE also regulates free education for the poor and the disabled by setting standards to assure that all children are educated appropriately.Removing these standards would cause the education system to resemble pre Brown vs BoE; some schools would be able to offer better standards, creating inequality.

Again, medicare was developed to help the poor and disabled;forcing a voucher system will limit access to medical treatment for a sector of the population that is already at a disadvantage.

Why do all the proposed policies of the tea party target the poor, the disabled and the elderly?

" Sep 5, 10 7:54 PM

The first stimulus was Bush's proposal.
Healthcare reform has been fought over for the last 100 years;its a long way from a 'government takeover' since it leaves healthcare in the hands of private companies.
The auto bailouts were a success;GM and chrysler survived, thousands kept their jobs and the companies have paid back the loans andare now once again profitable.
The Arizona law is unconstitutional because states cannot dictate natinal immigration policy, asper the constitution.

Yeah.let's put the republicans back in charge, they did such a great job.And we have to look no further than the last 2 years to see how well they cooperate and participate in governing.

" Sep 6, 10 9:07 AM

\My clockmisn't getting clened,I'm showing how stupid and ignorant republicans are.If or too lazy to do any homework for yourself and choose to beleive rw media you have bigger problems thanone lib making a fool out of you. I do enjoy doing it,though. You make i easy.
I said it before, anybody can serch out the facts for themselves and they can compare them wih what's posted here.you got it right, except that much of it sared back in '94 with the contract on America.
The dems took cntrol in '07,and have been facing republican obstructon ever since." Sep 6, 10 5:06 PM

Thespending during the Bush adinistration was all rubber stamped by the republicvan congress; The republicans had the majority in the House, which controls the purse strings.
And I'm not saying the Demshad no hand in it;they did-with an ineffective minority and the habit of trying to work with the majority at the time
Since the Democrats took the majority they havebeen stopped or slowed at every turn-how many bills passed the House but are stuck in limbo in the senate?
The republicans screech thatgovernment doesn't work, and when they're in power, prove it." Sep 6, 10 6:08 PM

Three Republican candidates will battle on Tuesday for right to challenge Bishop in November

The left has moved to the center and the right is moving farther right, the only people who claim democrats have moved left are those who see Mussolini as a radical leftie." Sep 12, 10 7:48 AM

What you just quoted was from the Declaration of Independence, which is the ramework for the constitution;it was written by Thomas Jefferson, not all the founding fathers. The original quote was from the English constitution, which was "life, liberty and property',but it was changed by Jefferson because he wanted it to indicate the pursuit of a utopian society, even though he knew it could never be acheived.
The term "The pursuit of Happiness' was meant to be forward looking,to include liberties such as education, prosperity and freedom, and it was (is) meant to provide all citezens with the opportunity, through government,to find contentment. That does not mean only capitalists;it is possible to be filthy rich and still not find the contentment of true happiness.Your definition of 'happiness' is shallow because it only considers economic contentment, not moral or spiritual contentment.
You should read some of analysys of the declaration anf the constitution.not just the words contained within it to provide talking points" Sep 13, 10 1:52 PM

To expand a bit on the quote used above by dan27,the entire quote in the declaration is "We hold these truths to be self-evident;that all men are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.."

the phrase 'among these' indicates that there are rights not specifically spelled out,yet are just as 'unalienable' as those described in that sentence.Since the constitution is such a topic, try reading the 9th amendment, which states that 'the enumeration in the constitution,of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."
To place the rights of capitalists above the rights of the rest of the people is to promote an aristocracy and create class division;it is to totally deny the very document that one claims to hold so dear." Sep 13, 10 2:11 PM

Altschuler will face Bishop in November

I seriously doubt that the republicans suddenly became the party of fiscal responsibility given their record over the last few years.
But,hey,Tim bishop vs. Randy the Outsourcer." Sep 15, 10 10:18 AM

The republicans, and now,the tea party, proudly campaigns on lowering taxes by cutting social programs such as SS and education; They attack immigrants and support laws that will discriminate; They attack the poor, women, the gay community and minorities and advocate eliminating or defunding the policies and programs that benefi them directly. The right has moved farther to the right, even though for the last 2 years democrats have tried to get them to participate in the legislative process.
Taxes are lower on the middle class than they have been in decades.everybody does better under democrats than republicans, including the top 2%. To return power to the republicans especially inexperienced newcomers will mean more gridlock in congress and more divisiveness as promoted on this board. The republicans are incapable of governing, and they prove it every time they gain power." Sep 15, 10 12:58 PM

Are the present republicans and tea party candidates advocating policies different than the republicans of 2,3 or 10 years ago?" Sep 15, 10 1:58 PM

you can't answer it.Run away!run away!" Sep 15, 10 3:14 PM

Once again-
Are the present republicans and tea party candidates advocating policies different than the republicans of 2,3 or 10 years ago?

" Sep 15, 10 3:29 PM

Yeah, the republicans went along with everything in the last four years.

The 'new' republicans are repeating the same thing the republicans of the last 30 years have been saying. any of us aren't fallingfor it.If you are, more power to you.Same dance, different dancers.More of he same. The right needs a new play book." Sep 15, 10 5:48 PM

Is that the best you can do?
the party of ideas.
more retreads." Sep 15, 10 6:08 PM

I don't have a problem with ending all the Bush tax cuts-he and the republican congress set the expiration,so don't blame Obama for them. The tax hike was pr-determined ten years ago.But just keeping the current rates on the top 2% would be a sufficient start.
Taxes are still the lowest they've been in years.Like I keep saying, the republicans have nothing new to offer.Just a return to the Bush years." Sep 15, 10 6:39 PM

I haven't seen anyone on the right bck up anything with facts.t's all been talking points from the right wing echo chamber.

If your so full of.....facts,answer the question I asked before.

Are the present republicans and tea party candidates advocating policies different than the republicans of 2,3 or 10 years ago?

Tell us how different the poicies they are now advocating are o diffeent than Bush's.

I say their the same tired, old rhetoric.

" Sep 15, 10 6:52 PM

He's correct. For example, many on the right are afraid of making the country better through shared responsibility." Sep 15, 10 7:07 PM

Quoted text-

"On his MSNBC show Countdown, host Keith Olbermann reminded the teabaggers, who just now seem to have figured out what the name means, where the term teabagger came from. Hint: it wasn’t Maddow or Olbermann but the teabaggers themselves who coined the term.

Olbermann said, “It is as useful to remind them anew of how the term originated and with whom. A TV news report aired last March 14 in which a correspondent described the original protest act, ‘take a teabag, put it in an envelope, and mail it to the White House.’ He added, ‘reteaparty.com has a headline Teabag the Fools in D.C. on tax day.’ Thus the verb to teabag was invented by the teabaggers themselves, and the correspondent who put it on TV was a Griff Jenkins of Fox News. Send your complaints to him.”

The teabaggers coined their own name, without realizing what it also means, and then they blamed their critics for their stupidity. By the way, why did it take them so long to figure out what a teabagger is? Why has this outrage on their part flared up recently?

It is as if none of them know how to use Google. (I’ll help you out teabaggers. Google isn’t another sexual term. It is a search engine. Ask one of your grand kids to show you how it works). Olbermann is correct Fox News helped spread the term before MSNBC got a hold of it, but as we know in the teabagger mind, Fox News can do no wrong, so it is a given that they won’t believe Olbermann, or me for that matter. Pretty rascist remark.
the whole quote,for context-

"Riverhead man stabbed to death in front of Hampton Bays Diner
Butts was BLACK, Not Hispanic, Almost all 15 were Black.... I was at the light going to work when It happened.Hispanics had nothing to do with It! show me a Hispanic over 30 that is not working and I bet he is at church or doing his laundry, And the bad Hispanics, all of which are under 30 learned their bad behavior from the Blacks in the USA.When are we going to stop making excuses for these criminals. If i was a hard working person of color I would be even more pissed off that these gang banging rapers were giving me a bad name. When is enough enough. I am sick of pretending these raciest animals are just misunderstood. BS.This time beach girl is right. The dinner has put one over on the town. They have taken advantage of a loop hole in the law. That back room was never intended to be a hip hop club. It was supposed to be a room for party's. When the town tried to shut it down. Mr Valdamas pulled the race card and S.H. buckled to this low class garbage that seems to have taken over our town. Mr Valdamas your sign says Dinner! Not after hours club" May 26, 09 10:27 PM

from the same thread, you claim no racial bias, but choose to name only blacks in your diatribe against black cultual music-

Like i said its not about the color of your skin Its about the lifestyle you lead.It just so happens that the following all have gun charges and felonies 50 cent, snoop,Kanye West,Beanie Sigel,Jay Z,Tupac Shakur,Lil Kim,P Diddy,Dmx,Shyne,Akon,Twisted Black,Chris Brown,TI,Da Brat,Pimp C,Corey Miller,ODB,C-Murder,Mystikal,Slick Rick,Master P,And the list goes on and on.If i was a law abiding AA, I would be the first one to condemn this gangsta rap and all the pain it projects on our community's

The republicans, after regaining congressional dominance after 40 years, used very dirty trick in the book after 1994-Copy ad paste this link to see the damage done by republican control of the budget process since 1994

http://www.ou.edu/special/albertctr/extensions/spring2007/LeLoup.pdf

The republicans profess to be the party of fiscal restraint, but they poved since 1994 they are the party of special interests.Returning them to power will be a return to the republican policies of the past.Historically, everyone does better under the democrats-look it up.
Historically, the republicans have always increased the deficits.Look it up
Now they're being overtaken by a fringe movement of crazies-Palin,Paul,O'Donnel,Angle-people who want to eliminate or change this country into Somalia.Good luck with that. We'll keep the DoE,SS,Medicaid, social programs and cvil rights. The ountry won't roll over for a bunch o fringe radical nutjobs and their supporters." The debt also soared because Obama added the costs of the two wars to the budget that Bush never figured in.

your entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts." Sep 21, 10 8:15 AM

sorry don't beleive blogs, especially from the far right wing Heritage Foundation whch is known far its skewered reasonig.
" Sep 21, 10 1:02 PM

Bush funded the war that way because he couldn' get it through the regular legislative process. He also included the costs of the war in his funding of the GWT.
from Politifact-
"
The Office of Managment and Budget in the White House doesn't separate out spending in Iraq from the global war on terror, and even then it tracks only supplemental spending bills and doesn't include money in other federal budgets"

The other culprit was earmarks, which increased tenfold under republican contrlled congress.Let's take a look at what Politifact said about earmarks and Obama's promise to reduce them-

"The high mark was fiscal 2005, the last fiscal year before Democrats won control, when Congress passed bills with approximately 16,000 earmarks, Ellis said.

The conservative Heritage Foundation included a striking chart on earmarks in its Federal Spending by the Numbers 2010 report. It reported a slightly different number of earmarks, at approximately 14,000 earmarks in 2005. But that was the largest number of earmarks between 1991 and 2010, and a significant increase from 1994, when there were fewer than 2,000.

there were several factors at work. Prior to Republican control, Ellis said, Democrats reserved earmarks for committee chairman and other powerful leaders. Under Republicans, more rank-and-file members of Congress were allowed to insert earmarks into bills. The Republicans allowed Democrats to insert earmarks as well, so Democrats were not so quick to criticize what the Republicans were doing, he said.

Getting back to our rating, Obama said that "When these same Republicans – including Mr. Boehner – were in charge, the number of earmarks and pet projects went up, not down." Earmarks increased dramatically between 1995 and 2006, so we find Obama's statement that earmarks went up, not down, to be correct. But he also singles out Boehner by name, when Boehner didn't take any earmarks and wasn't in leadership for most of those years. So we rate Obama's statement Mostly True."

Thogh I will admit that Obaa has added to the debt, the amount of debt left over from Bus and the republican congress is still debted over;all we know for sure is that it is massive." Sep 21, 10 5:39 PM

wrong.
The cost of the war was spread out, some under the GWT,some in defense appropriations bills, some in the supplemental spending bills, conveniently muddying the waters to hide costs.Bush could never justify what he was spending to the American people if he budgeted it-and three of his last four years the congress couldn't come up with a budget on time, despite the rpublicans all being in goosestep. When he was using supplemental bills the republican bobblehead congress was just rubberstamping the bills right through." NEWSDAY REPORTS JOB GROWTH FOR LONG ISLAND" Sep 28, 10 6:18 PM

Since the republican tea party hates government so much, why should we vote them in.They have done nothing in thelast two years, and when they were in power, they ignored issues like healthcare. It was more important to them to interfere in the personal decisions a family had to make about a woman in a vegetative state,(Terry Schaivo),try to introduce legislation to prevent same sex marriage and pay for 2 wars on the backs of the American people. Now they say they want government out of our lives, but look at their track record.

Saks Fifth Avenue closes Southampton store this past weekend; Water Mill's Citarella also closed

of course you didn't say that this was a right wing hack organisation that gave every democrat a low rating.

http://www.votesmart.org/issue_rating_detail.php?r_id=4234" Oct 6, 10 8:29 AM

We can start with the tea party.I posted the findings of two different news organisations in the forum area about it-one from CBS News and the New York Times, the other from the University of Washington.Neither is flattering to the tea party.

from the NTLC website-

"Our Partners
NTLC and our foundation, The National Tax Limitation Foundation (NTLF), have organized numerous conferences and seminars around the Nation on critical issues, and we have participated as speakers and panelists in meetings sponsored by others. Uhler speaks regularly at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, sponsored by the American Conservative Union (ACU), on whose board he has served for years. NTLC’s operating philosophy has always been to partner with other groups and individuals in the accomplishment of mutual goals"

Checked out their board of directors-
all ultra-conservative support.Sounds like a far right wing group to me.
" Oct 6, 10 10:09 PM

What are you talking about? The closing of Saks in Southampton is the most important issue of this time?" Oct 6, 10 10:12 PM

That's a big steaming pile.
A white supremiscist helped write Aryanzona's immigration law.
Supremascism is all over the right wing.
-The attack on education, particularly the elimination of the Departmnt of Education will limit or eliminate low cost loans for the college bound, limiting opportunity for higher education to the rich who can afford it. If your poor or a minority, you'll have to depend on private loans for college at 15-25% interest. It will leave standards to be determined by individual states, making qualifying for some colleges difficult for some students. They want to eliminate Affirmative Action programs which directly affect minorities.
-The right wants to eliminate SS and medicare, thrusting millions into poverty-many of them seniors;it will also affect single parents, the disabled and children.
-The right wants to privatise everything they can-does a recent fire in Tennesee say anything about privatised services?
-The right wants to repeal the healthcare legislation, yet is now saying it wants to introduce many of the provisions already in there. They refused to participate yet now are trying to sound reasonable.Given their track record,we already know what to expect.they are not trustworthy.
-The right rails against the rescue of GM and Chrysler, yet hundreds of thousands of jobs were saved and for those who did not hear,GM announced today that they are not only solvent, but adding jobs and opening factories.
The right has become extremist in their ideology. The tea party has taken over the republican party and wants to impose a radical agenda on the country.People are waking up to it,though. They see how crazy these people are." Oct 7, 10 10:14 PM

Who is donating to the republicans now?
we don't know because activist conservative judges on the supreme court have allowed donations by big corporations and outside interests and not required disclosure.Rupert Murdoch donated $1m to the republicans.Foxcorp also donated large amounts to republicans;this is beside the fact that Fox has almost every person considering a run for the republican nomination in 2012 on their payroll.Or has nobody noticed?

we need publically funded elections.Get the special interest money out of politics." Oct 7, 10 10:21 PM

Altschuler balks; debate with Bishop canceled

From the above article-

"As for the Hampton Bays debate, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons said its members tried to secure a commitment from Mr. Altschuler’s campaign for several weeks before they were finally denied via a phone message on Friday."

Sounds like Altshuler doesn't want to debate.
As for the Southampton Citizens forum,I can't find anything about them.Bishop is wise to avoid agreeing to a debate hosted by some unknown entity." Oct 10, 10 7:48 PM

Paladino had another gaffe tonight about gays.He even had it written out so he would get it right." Oct 10, 10 11:49 PM

Yes,how many days are in another two years?" Oct 10, 10 11:50 PM

from the AP-
"NEW YORK (AP) - New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino has told Orthodox Jewish leaders that there's "nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual."

"A spokesman for Democratic opponent Andrew Cuomo said Paladino's comments demonstrated "a stunning homophobia and a glaring disregard for basic equality."

"He also said young children shouldn't be exposed to gay culture, and singled out pride parades with a description of marchers wearing "Speedos and grinding against each other."

It's "disgusting" and "a terrible thing," Paladino said Monday on NBC's "Today" show.

You can spin it any way you like,he made the statements and shows a basic contempt for tolerance and equality.

As far as voting with the party, you do realise that the republicans have voted together 99% of the time over the last few years, but that's okay when it comes to voting against veterans, the elderly, education and the economy." Oct 11, 10 10:34 AM

as far as taxes going down, you do realise that taxes are lower than they have been in years, don't you?Apparently not.
If all the spending is stopped you'll be complaining because of the loss of services.Clinton balanced the budget, but it was the republicans who went out of control. The tea party and the republicans have said that they will open investigations on Obama-more wasteful spending being promised by the republicans. If they start investigations, they won't be doing the peoples' business, just wasting taxpayer money like they did when they had thei jihad against Clinton for years and came up with nothing to show for it." Oct 11, 10 10:44 AM

The proposal the dems put forward was the same one that was proposed by republicans-the dream ct.It was the republicans who recanted their support for it because the wind changed. They flip-flopped." Oct 11, 10 7:12 PM

This is a lie-
"Do the liberals want automatic citizenship for those who entered the country illegally? The answer is yes. "
The dems and liberals support a path to citizenship-The Dream Act was originally proposed by Republicans who withdrew thir support when it was re-introduced by the democrats.

This is from the democratic party platform-
"Path for undocumented aliens to earn citizenship
We will extend the promise of citizenship to those still struggling for freedom. Today’s immigration laws do not reflect our values or serve our security, and we will work for real reform. The solution is not to establish a massive new status of second-class workers; that betrays our values and hurts all working people. Undocumented immigrants within our borders who clear a background check, work hard and pay taxes should have a path to earn full participation in America. We will hasten family reunification for parents and children, husbands and wives, and offer more English-language and civic education classes so immigrants can assume all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. As we undertake these steps, we will work with our neighbors to strengthen our security so we are safer from those who would come here to harm us. We are a nation of immigrants, and from Arab-Americans in California to Latinos in Florida, we share the dream of a better life in the country we love.

This is about the dream act-

"•Right-wing foundations funding includes: Bradley, Scaife, Koch, Olin, Earhart, Castle Rock, and JM Foundations"

"A package of pro-growth tax cuts, designed by the NCPA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce ..."

The same Chamber of Commerce now soliciting foreign funds and channeling them to republican candidates.

NCPA Senior Fellow Bruce Bartlett's proposal for an across-the-board tax cut became the centerpiece of Bob Dole's 1996 presidential campaign and the focal point of the recent pro-growth approach to tax cuts. Bartlett's proposal also became the centerpiece of President Bush's tax cut proposal."

"•"The repeal by Congress of the estate tax last year (vetoed by President Clinton) and again by the House of Representatives this year reflects the continued work of the NCPA. At the request of congressional leadership, the NCPA produced a policy backgrounder on the case for abolishing death taxes. A later NCPA study on this issue was released on Capitol Hill, timed to coincide with the Senate debate on the issue. This year, the issue is again before the Congress, with a president who strongly favors repeal."

Reaganomics was a failure.
Revenues increased, but so did deficits. It caused him to raise taxes in his second term.

"Yes, revenues did increase by $474.1 billion dollars during the Reagan 8-year term of office, but each and every year resulted in a budget deficit and by the end of his 8-year term Ronald Reagan had increased the federal debt by almost $1.7 trillion dollars - 3.5 times the amount the revenues increased"

His policies increased the poverty rate-
"The number of Americans below the poverty level increased from 29.272 million in 1980 to 31.745 million in 1988, which means that, as a percentage of the total population, it remained almost stationary, from 12.95% in 1980 to 13% in 1988.[20] The poverty level for people under the age of 18 increased from 11.543 million in 1980 (18.3% of all child population) to 12.455 (19.5%) in 1988.[21] In addition, the situation of low income groups was affected by the reduction of social spending. Inequality also increased. The share of total income going to the 5% highest-income households grew from 16.5% in 1980 to 18.3% in 1988 and the share of the highest fifth increased from 44.1% to 46.3% in same years. In contrast, the share of total income of the lowest fifth fell from 4.2% in 1980 to 3.8% in 1988 and the second poorest fifth from 10.2% to 9.6%.[22]"

"National debt more than tripled from 900 billion dollars to 2.8 trillion dollars during Reagan's tenure"

Voodoo economics.

factcheck.com is skeptical of poll results because polls only reac those with landlines-

Reasons to be Skeptical

We doubt that this study will be the last word on this subject, and we think the results of the Pew study include some good reasons to be somewhat skeptical of polling results in general. For one thing, the study illustrates that cell-only users tend to be very different from the landline sample. In the Pew study, the cell-only users tended to be:

•Young: 46 percent of the cell-only sample was in the 18 to 29 age group, compared with 12 percent for landline users.

•Male: Men made up 61 percent of the cell-only sample but only 48 percent of the landline sample.

•Less White: 19 percent of the cell-only sample was black, versus 11 percent for the landline sample. Asians made up 5 percent of the cell-only sample, versus 1 percent of the landline sample.

•More Hispanic: Hispanics (who can be of any race) were 13 percent of the cell-only sample compared with 6 percent of the landline sample.

and.....

Poll-takers apply various statistical manipulations to their survey results in an attempt to compensate for those who are missed in phone surveys. That task is becoming more difficult as more Americans do without hard-wired phones, giving the wise citizen one more reason not to put too much weight on any particular finding from a telephone poll.

"None of this speaks to the lopsided distribution of the benefits of Reagan-era economic growth. Investors made out during the 1980s, while workers lost out. After seeing their investments lose value during the 1970s, shareholders enjoyed real returns (i.e., adjusted for inflation) in the 1980s that rivaled those of the next decade's stock market bubble and far outdistanced the returns of the 1960s. Real weekly wages for nonsupervisory workers, on the other hand, took a beating, declining even more quickly than they had during the 1970s. Today, the average real earnings of nonsupervisory workers remain far below those of 30 years ago, despite healthy wage gains in the second half of the 1990s expansion, when unemployment rates dropped toward 4%. "

his tax cuts-
"The results never came close to measuring up to the supply-side rhetoric. For starters, the tax cuts busted the federal budget. The federal deficit ballooned from 2.7% of GDP in 1980 to 6% of GDP in 1983, the largest peacetime deficit in history, and was still 5% of GDP in 1986. Tax revenues did pick up, especially after the 1983 payroll tax increase kicked in, reducing the deficit somewhat. Still, tax revenues grew far more slowly over than the 1980s business cycle (2.5% from 1979 to 1989) than they did in the 1990s business cycle (4.1% from 1989 to 2000). "
