Paladino had another gaffe tonight about gays.He even had it written out so he would get it right." Oct 10, 10 11:49 PM

Yes,how many days are in another two years?" Oct 10, 10 11:50 PM

from the AP-
"NEW YORK (AP) - New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino has told Orthodox Jewish leaders that there's "nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual."

"A spokesman for Democratic opponent Andrew Cuomo said Paladino's comments demonstrated "a stunning homophobia and a glaring disregard for basic equality."

"He also said young children shouldn't be exposed to gay culture, and singled out pride parades with a description of marchers wearing "Speedos and grinding against each other."

It's "disgusting" and "a terrible thing," Paladino said Monday on NBC's "Today" show.

You can spin it any way you like,he made the statements and shows a basic contempt for tolerance and equality.

As far as voting with the party, you do realise that the republicans have voted together 99% of the time over the last few years, but that's okay when it comes to voting against veterans, the elderly, education and the economy." Oct 11, 10 10:34 AM

as far as taxes going down, you do realise that taxes are lower than they have been in years, don't you?Apparently not.
If all the spending is stopped you'll be complaining because of the loss of services.Clinton balanced the budget, but it was the republicans who went out of control. The tea party and the republicans have said that they will open investigations on Obama-more wasteful spending being promised by the republicans. If they start investigations, they won't be doing the peoples' business, just wasting taxpayer money like they did when they had thei jihad against Clinton for years and came up with nothing to show for it." For over a hundred years healthcare has been debated;we now have a basic framework to build on to effect changes. The riht argues that healthcare is not a right, but that's the overwhelming opinion throughout the world.
Our for-profit system drives up costs because stockholders and ceo's need to be satisfied at the expense of the public. The public good ha to come first." Oct 11, 10 12:40 PM

what info can you tell us about citizens forum?
It's obscure organisation, appearing at the conveinience of the republicans.A fair debate would be fine, why tilt the feild toward a small special interest group?" Oct 11, 10 12:45 PM

I know 2 families who have kids in college who are now able to put their kids back on their health insurance. They were unable to afford insurance du to their status as full-time students.
My wife's co-pays have come down for some of the services she needs. The new healthcare law has also helped with prescriptions and servies we need for a disabled relative.Meds and certain doctor visits are covered." Oct 11, 10 6:02 PM

The dems have been trying to pass comprehensive immigration reform.Guess which party is opposing it?" Oct 11, 10 6:37 PM

Especially the brown ones.right?Since that's who the immigration issue centers around.
" Oct 11, 10 7:06 PM

you hate brown people." Oct 11, 10 7:07 PM

The proposal the dems put forward was the same one that was proposed by republicans-the dream ct.It was the republicans who recanted their support for it because the wind changed. They flip-flopped." Oct 11, 10 7:12 PM

No,but you are.Every body knows Sarah Palin was a last-ditch effort to win over woman voters, but al she did was prove her incompetence. She even quit being governor of Alaska and now works for Faux news as one of their talking (empty) heads." Oct 11, 10 9:16 PM

This is a lie-
"Do the liberals want automatic citizenship for those who entered the country illegally? The answer is yes. "
The dems and liberals support a path to citizenship-The Dream Act was originally proposed by Republicans who withdrew thir support when it was re-introduced by the democrats.

This is from the democratic party platform-
"Path for undocumented aliens to earn citizenship
We will extend the promise of citizenship to those still struggling for freedom. Today’s immigration laws do not reflect our values or serve our security, and we will work for real reform. The solution is not to establish a massive new status of second-class workers; that betrays our values and hurts all working people. Undocumented immigrants within our borders who clear a background check, work hard and pay taxes should have a path to earn full participation in America. We will hasten family reunification for parents and children, husbands and wives, and offer more English-language and civic education classes so immigrants can assume all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. As we undertake these steps, we will work with our neighbors to strengthen our security so we are safer from those who would come here to harm us. We are a nation of immigrants, and from Arab-Americans in California to Latinos in Florida, we share the dream of a better life in the country we love.

This is about the dream act-

This compares each platform on immigration-

Let everyone read those and decide for themselves about immigration.
You don't speak for everybody, you only speak for the extremists." Oct 12, 10 8:03 PM

Show us where Obama said that.I want a full quote and a link.
The myth of equality the right is trying to sell will diminish low cost government student loans, remove protections for minorities and women and lower the availability of advanced education from all but those who have enough income to afford it outright. Those policies will strengthen the ability and opportunity to discriminate in college admissions based on race." Oct 12, 10 8:08 PM

Nancy Pelosi is smart-a LOT smarter than Sarah palin.
The healthcare bill was posted online before it was voted on,everyone knows this.
Once again, you distort facts and expect everyone to take your word for it.

More lies to support a far right wing agenda and an extremist takeover." Oct 12, 10 8:10 PM

Its called cherrypicking. They take a topic, distort it to fit an agenda, then scream it at the top of their lungs. They count on the effect if more they shout, the more people think that they speak for everybody. The tea party is an extremist wing of the republican party, out to re-make America in its own image. It's dangerous." Oct 12, 10 8:57 PM

A new low.You have a lot of nerve to question someones patriotism. They did it to John Kerry,a decorated war veteran and they did it to Max Cleland, who lost 3 limbs in Viet Nam.
But it isn't surprising to see the right use this tactic." Oct 12, 10 9:08 PM

The democratic platform includes a path to citizenship
If youu repeat a lie often enough, the weak minded will begin to beleive it.
But most of us here won't." Oct 12, 10 9:11 PM

Saks Fifth Avenue closes Southampton store this past weekend; Water Mill's Citarella also closed

It is far right wing.
If you examine the republican platform closely you can see the supremisism in the platform.
-eliminating free education and limiting access to government education loans and grants to the poor.
-eliminating social security and medicare which will create a poor working class, especially among minorities and the elderly
-Eliminating access to affordable healthcare
-Destroyin the environment by reducing and eliminating protections for our most sensiive natural resources
-Privatising services to generate profits at the cost of the welfare of the majority " Oct 12, 10 10:25 PM

Let's see.
It was stated that he voted with nancy pelosi 97% of the time.
That would indicate that he vod against her occasionally.

There you go,driving a wedge with inflammatory, divisive rhetoric.
"One of us"
The same kind of stsement that was being made about Obama when the right began all the garbage abut him being a Muslim and not being an American.
When all else fails, resort to ignorance.
I'm sure you'll find support among some here." Oct 13, 10 7:27 AM

You really have a problem when someone stands up to you.
Once again,I'll let the other posters here decide who has more divisive rhetoric, myself or those on the right who puke out talking pointstaken from Hannity,Limbaugh,Levin,Coulter,Beck or any of the merchants of hate that so effectively leads you willingly by the nose.
Attack me all you want,it only reinforces the truth in what I stated.I've been at this a very long time, and I have yet to see anyone on the right effectively refute what I post. But keep trying,I'll be back later to make you look foolish and hateful some mor.

"•Right-wing foundations funding includes: Bradley, Scaife, Koch, Olin, Earhart, Castle Rock, and JM Foundations"

"A package of pro-growth tax cuts, designed by the NCPA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce ..."

The same Chamber of Commerce now soliciting foreign funds and channeling them to republican candidates.

NCPA Senior Fellow Bruce Bartlett's proposal for an across-the-board tax cut became the centerpiece of Bob Dole's 1996 presidential campaign and the focal point of the recent pro-growth approach to tax cuts. Bartlett's proposal also became the centerpiece of President Bush's tax cut proposal."

"•"The repeal by Congress of the estate tax last year (vetoed by President Clinton) and again by the House of Representatives this year reflects the continued work of the NCPA. At the request of congressional leadership, the NCPA produced a policy backgrounder on the case for abolishing death taxes. A later NCPA study on this issue was released on Capitol Hill, timed to coincide with the Senate debate on the issue. This year, the issue is again before the Congress, with a president who strongly favors repeal."
The right wants the poor and middle class to 'pull itself up by it's bootstraps' yet that doesn't apply to the rich and the children of the rich.Generational wealt and the development of an aristocracy is their goal.

Reaganomics was a failure.
Revenues increased, but so did deficits. It caused him to raise taxes in his second term.

"Yes, revenues did increase by $474.1 billion dollars during the Reagan 8-year term of office, but each and every year resulted in a budget deficit and by the end of his 8-year term Ronald Reagan had increased the federal debt by almost $1.7 trillion dollars - 3.5 times the amount the revenues increased"

His policies increased the poverty rate-
"The number of Americans below the poverty level increased from 29.272 million in 1980 to 31.745 million in 1988, which means that, as a percentage of the total population, it remained almost stationary, from 12.95% in 1980 to 13% in 1988.[20] The poverty level for people under the age of 18 increased from 11.543 million in 1980 (18.3% of all child population) to 12.455 (19.5%) in 1988.[21] In addition, the situation of low income groups was affected by the reduction of social spending. Inequality also increased. The share of total income going to the 5% highest-income households grew from 16.5% in 1980 to 18.3% in 1988 and the share of the highest fifth increased from 44.1% to 46.3% in same years. In contrast, the share of total income of the lowest fifth fell from 4.2% in 1980 to 3.8% in 1988 and the second poorest fifth from 10.2% to 9.6%.[22]"

"National debt more than tripled from 900 billion dollars to 2.8 trillion dollars during Reagan's tenure"

Voodoo economics.

factcheck.com is skeptical of poll results because polls only reac those with landlines-

Reasons to be Skeptical

We doubt that this study will be the last word on this subject, and we think the results of the Pew study include some good reasons to be somewhat skeptical of polling results in general. For one thing, the study illustrates that cell-only users tend to be very different from the landline sample. In the Pew study, the cell-only users tended to be:

•Young: 46 percent of the cell-only sample was in the 18 to 29 age group, compared with 12 percent for landline users.

•Male: Men made up 61 percent of the cell-only sample but only 48 percent of the landline sample.

•Less White: 19 percent of the cell-only sample was black, versus 11 percent for the landline sample. Asians made up 5 percent of the cell-only sample, versus 1 percent of the landline sample.

•More Hispanic: Hispanics (who can be of any race) were 13 percent of the cell-only sample compared with 6 percent of the landline sample.

Poll-takers apply various statistical manipulations to their survey results in an attempt to compensate for those who are missed in phone surveys. That task is becoming more difficult as more Americans do without hard-wired phones, giving the wise citizen one more reason not to put too much weight on any particular finding from a telephone poll.

Paul Krugman described it well.
He said if you could take 1000 people and line them up,using height to indicatie their economic standing, the average worker would be about 8 feet tall. "None of this speaks to the lopsided distribution of the benefits of Reagan-era economic growth. Investors made out during the 1980s, while workers lost out. After seeing their investments lose value during the 1970s, shareholders enjoyed real returns (i.e., adjusted for inflation) in the 1980s that rivaled those of the next decade's stock market bubble and far outdistanced the returns of the 1960s. Real weekly wages for nonsupervisory workers, on the other hand, took a beating, declining even more quickly than they had during the 1970s. Today, the average real earnings of nonsupervisory workers remain far below those of 30 years ago, despite healthy wage gains in the second half of the 1990s expansion, when unemployment rates dropped toward 4%. "

his tax cuts-
"The results never came close to measuring up to the supply-side rhetoric. For starters, the tax cuts busted the federal budget. The federal deficit ballooned from 2.7% of GDP in 1980 to 6% of GDP in 1983, the largest peacetime deficit in history, and was still 5% of GDP in 1986. Tax revenues did pick up, especially after the 1983 payroll tax increase kicked in, reducing the deficit somewhat. Still, tax revenues grew far more slowly over than the 1980s business cycle (2.5% from 1979 to 1989) than they did in the 1990s business cycle (4.1% from 1989 to 2000). "

the CBO agrees-

And the claim that immigrants are taking jobs away from Americans? Well, actually, the Immigration Policy Center says that immigration - either legal or illegal - doesn't cause high unemployment. They point out that if immigrants took jobs away from American citizen, then you'd have the highest unemployment rates where there are the highest numbers of immigrants - but that's not the case. Here's where the Immigration Policy Center explains all this:

Most of the ianti-immigration nformation comes from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), both founded by the same person who has ties to some pretty rascist groups.I don't think people want to get 'facts' on immigration from any organisation that is willing to mislead the public with misinformation." Thersw a name for why the right beleives everything their told-Its called the
Dunning-Kruger effect.

"The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which an unskilled person makes poor decisions and reaches erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to realize their mistakes.[1] The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their own ability as above average, much higher than it actually is, while the highly skilled underrate their abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority. the key is cognitive bias-
"A cognitive bias is the human tendency to make systematic errors in certain circumstances based on cognitive factors rather than evidence. Such biases can result from information-processing shortcuts called heuristics. They include errors in statistical judgment, social attribution, and memory. Cognitive biases are a common outcome of human thought, and often drastically skew the reliability of anecdotal and legal evidence. It is a phenomenon studied in cognitive science and social psychology."

Not all the stimulus money has been spent yet.

I have no problem if some of my comments were removed;the mods have that right according to the terms of use I agreed to.The rules are basically the same on any message board.
I 'liked' your comments by mistake;but anyone here who has read mine know the difference between you and I,and they also know who posts closer to the truth, and who provides others with away to verify what they post.

Still waiting for a link to those specific policies you the republicans have; I don't expect to get anything because its going to be the same Bush-era song and dance recycled. The republicans don't have any new ideas, just the word NO.
" Oct 19, 10 7:39 AM

yeah, we know how consvatives feel about minorities, gays, or religions other than their own.
That's why its appropriate to call conservatives out on their bigotry.
They deserve it." Oct 19, 10 7:42 AM

Raucous Meeting Focuses On Fights At Southampton High School

The school and parents need to work together on this;some problems will persist (fighting over boyfriends and girlfriends) but the persistent problems need to be addressed.
Last year I was approached about participating in a 'bullying' task force, which would have been a group of parents, teachers and administrators meeting and discussing options to address the bullying problem. That idea should be expanded to cover all school violence. I'd be willing to work with the school in whatever capacity to help it get started, but we'll need the support of the entie community." Oct 19, 10 6:36 PM

""I support efforts ... more to repeal Obamacare and will fight to repeal the Medicare Advantage cuts supported by Nancy Pelosi and Tim Bishop."

The republicans want to repeal 'Obamacare' (a label created on rw radio) and replace it with all the parts of 'Obamacare' that are now law. They wouldn't participate in its creation, but want to keep the best parts of it now that the democrats have done all the heavy lifting.
The medicare advantage cuts were to reduce subsidies to insurance companies that offered supplemental insurance. The money went back to seniors in the form of checks to cover prescription drugs, and they did not lose any benfits.

Everybody supports 'environmentally responsible' oil drilling,as long as it isn't in environmentally sensitive places like parts of Alaska or in national wildlife refuges or parks.
As far as nuclear power is concerned, look up the problems from the Shoreham nuclear power plant from the seventies, and exactly whet would we do with the spent nuclear fuel?
There is no such thing as clean coal, another myth propagated by the energy industry. Coal is one of the worst pollutant contributors there is." Oct 19, 10 7:10 PM

Many here will attest to the fact that we never had a problem communicating with Tim Bishop.
We can understand your problem communicating with him, thoug." Oct 19, 10 7:12 PM

Got a link to those policies?I've yet to see anyone link to a set of republican proposals that detail their plan.Probably because they either don't have one or are just recycling the Bush policies.
It's easy to throw stones when your candidate won't address wat his policies are exactly and in detail." Oct 19, 10 7:16 PM

Look up how the republican congress ran the house when they were in charge-shutting out democrats, holding votes open beyond the time limit to twist arms, not allowing democrats to submit amendments to bills-under delay it was run like a one party system. And Boehner was groomed by DeLay,even though DeLay didn't like him.We can't count on the republicans doing anything different-Boehner said so himself. Most of the people running for congress on the republican side aren't 'outsiders'-some have been in government longer than Bishop,in state legislatures or they ran for office before (like O'Donnel-she ran for the senate 3 times before) The assertion that the republicans and the tea party are running 'outsiders' is another myth being propagated just to get the pulicans back in power." Oct 19, 10 7:24 PM

we'll see what happens.I doubt the democrats will lose either the house or the senate.People are looking at the republican party and realising its full of loons." Oct 19, 10 7:26 PM

Raucous Meeting Focuses On Fights At Southampton High School

The school has had changes in administration at least 4-5 times in the last several years-pincipals,assistant principals, directors of Pupil services (the third in 4 years) and the suprintendant. There is no continuity in the administration and it is affecting discipline throughout the district as well as te morale of students, faculty and staff. It is developing into a major problem.
The scholl is responsible for informing the police of any threat to the students or faculty. That is a major failure in its obligation to the community;haven't they ever heard of Columbine?" Oct 19, 10 9:04 PM
