a far right wing organisation-
"•A right wing think tank with programs devoted to privatization in the following issue areas: taxes, Social Security and Medicare, health care, criminal justice, environment, education, and welfare."

"•Right-wing foundations funding includes: Bradley, Scaife, Koch, Olin, Earhart, Castle Rock, and JM Foundations"

"A package of pro-growth tax cuts, designed by the NCPA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce ..."

The same Chamber of Commerce now soliciting foreign funds and channeling them to republican candidates.

NCPA Senior Fellow Bruce Bartlett's proposal for an across-the-board tax cut became the centerpiece of Bob Dole's 1996 presidential campaign and the focal point of the recent pro-growth approach to tax cuts. Bartlett's proposal also became the centerpiece of President Bush's tax cut proposal."

"•"The repeal by Congress of the estate tax last year (vetoed by President Clinton) and again by the House of Representatives this year reflects the continued work of the NCPA. At the request of congressional leadership, the NCPA produced a policy backgrounder on the case for abolishing death taxes. A later NCPA study on this issue was released on Capitol Hill, timed to coincide with the Senate debate on the issue. This year, the issue is again before the Congress, with a president who strongly favors repeal."
The right wants the poor and middle class to 'pull itself up by it's bootstraps' yet that doesn't apply to the rich and the children of the rich.Generational wealt and the development of an aristocracy is their goal.

Reaganomics was a failure.
Revenues increased, but so did deficits. It caused him to raise taxes in his second term.

"Yes, revenues did increase by $474.1 billion dollars during the Reagan 8-year term of office, but each and every year resulted in a budget deficit and by the end of his 8-year term Ronald Reagan had increased the federal debt by almost $1.7 trillion dollars - 3.5 times the amount the revenues increased"

His policies increased the poverty rate-
"The number of Americans below the poverty level increased from 29.272 million in 1980 to 31.745 million in 1988, which means that, as a percentage of the total population, it remained almost stationary, from 12.95% in 1980 to 13% in 1988.[20] The poverty level for people under the age of 18 increased from 11.543 million in 1980 (18.3% of all child population) to 12.455 (19.5%) in 1988.[21] In addition, the situation of low income groups was affected by the reduction of social spending. Inequality also increased. The share of total income going to the 5% highest-income households grew from 16.5% in 1980 to 18.3% in 1988 and the share of the highest fifth increased from 44.1% to 46.3% in same years. In contrast, the share of total income of the lowest fifth fell from 4.2% in 1980 to 3.8% in 1988 and the second poorest fifth from 10.2% to 9.6%.[22]"

"National debt more than tripled from 900 billion dollars to 2.8 trillion dollars during Reagan's tenure"

Voodoo economics.

factcheck.com is skeptical of poll results because polls only reac those with landlines-

Reasons to be Skeptical

We doubt that this study will be the last word on this subject, and we think the results of the Pew study include some good reasons to be somewhat skeptical of polling results in general. For one thing, the study illustrates that cell-only users tend to be very different from the landline sample. In the Pew study, the cell-only users tended to be:

•Young: 46 percent of the cell-only sample was in the 18 to 29 age group, compared with 12 percent for landline users.

•Male: Men made up 61 percent of the cell-only sample but only 48 percent of the landline sample.

•Less White: 19 percent of the cell-only sample was black, versus 11 percent for the landline sample. Asians made up 5 percent of the cell-only sample, versus 1 percent of the landline sample.

•More Hispanic: Hispanics (who can be of any race) were 13 percent of the cell-only sample compared with 6 percent of the landline sample.

and.....

Poll-takers apply various statistical manipulations to their survey results in an attempt to compensate for those who are missed in phone surveys. That task is becoming more difficult as more Americans do without hard-wired phones, giving the wise citizen one more reason not to put too much weight on any particular finding from a telephone poll.

The gap between rich and poor has widened considerably.
Paul Krugman described it well.
He said if you could take 1000 people and line them up,using height to indicatie their economic standing, the average worker would be about 8 feet tall. People in extreme poverty would be about 2 feet tall.Do you have any idea how tall the richest wold be on his scale, relative to the average worker?" Oct 15, 10 7:39 AM

"None of this speaks to the lopsided distribution of the benefits of Reagan-era economic growth. Investors made out during the 1980s, while workers lost out. After seeing their investments lose value during the 1970s, shareholders enjoyed real returns (i.e., adjusted for inflation) in the 1980s that rivaled those of the next decade's stock market bubble and far outdistanced the returns of the 1960s. Real weekly wages for nonsupervisory workers, on the other hand, took a beating, declining even more quickly than they had during the 1970s. Today, the average real earnings of nonsupervisory workers remain far below those of 30 years ago, despite healthy wage gains in the second half of the 1990s expansion, when unemployment rates dropped toward 4%. "

his tax cuts-
"The results never came close to measuring up to the supply-side rhetoric. For starters, the tax cuts busted the federal budget. The federal deficit ballooned from 2.7% of GDP in 1980 to 6% of GDP in 1983, the largest peacetime deficit in history, and was still 5% of GDP in 1986. Tax revenues did pick up, especially after the 1983 payroll tax increase kicked in, reducing the deficit somewhat. Still, tax revenues grew far more slowly over than the 1980s business cycle (2.5% from 1979 to 1989) than they did in the 1990s business cycle (4.1% from 1989 to 2000). "

According to the right wing Cato institute, immigrants contribute more to the economy than they take-75% pay taxes just like you or I-

http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=10658#16

the CBO agrees-

http://cbo.gov/ftpdocs/87xx/doc8711/12-6-Immigration.pdf

And the claim that immigrants are taking jobs away from Americans? Well, actually, the Immigration Policy Center says that immigration - either legal or illegal - doesn't cause high unemployment. They point out that if immigrants took jobs away from American citizen, then you'd have the highest unemployment rates where there are the highest numbers of immigrants - but that's not the case. Here's where the Immigration Policy Center explains all this:

http://www.immigrationpolicy.org/just-facts/immigration-reform-and-job-growth

Most of the ianti-immigration nformation comes from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) and the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), both founded by the same person who has ties to some pretty rascist groups.I don't think people want to get 'facts' on immigration from any organisation that is willing to mislead the public with misinformation." Thersw a name for why the right beleives everything their told-Its called the
Dunning-Kruger effect.

"The Dunning–Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which an unskilled person makes poor decisions and reaches erroneous conclusions, but their incompetence denies them the metacognitive ability to realize their mistakes.[1] The unskilled therefore suffer from illusory superiority, rating their own ability as above average, much higher than it actually is, while the highly skilled underrate their abilities, suffering from illusory inferiority. the rights' agenda is smaller government-to that end, they drive a wedge between the eople and the government, claiming to represent the true interests ofte people, but actually cultivate a mistrust of the government allowing them to take power and force their own agenda which supports corporate power and reducing the ability of the people to effect change that is necessary to advnce society.
Government is essential to provide for the common needs of the people.Though they professes to speak for everyone, the people who pursue this agenda use selective issues and policies to isolate and enlarge differences that force separation between them and hinder their ability to effectively participate in the process of government.

taxes are lower than they've been in years.
And debt wasn't a problem for the right until Obama became president." Oct 19, 10 10:31 PM

Taxes are lower than they've been in years.
Lower taxes aren't always in the peoples interest, especially when we have crumbling infrastructure and rising poverty. The right-all of the right-has no social concience ad is only interested in getting paid by having lower taxes." Oct 19, 10 10:35 PM

we're not the ones repeating the mantra-from your previous posts-
"Phil, sure, for clarity, it is the party of HELL NO. More debt and spending isn't the answer. "
"Phil, That says nothing about the "rights agenda" (which would be lower taxes and lower debt). "
"none of which Tim Bishop is interested in with his support of massive debt and taxes. "
"Taxes are sky rocketing"

(no,they're not.)
"Value is more than private freedom. "
"The Democrats have nothing but failed policies to offer. More spending - more debt- more taxes.."

your the one who keeps bringing up taxes and spending. These quotes are just from this thread.
hippocracy much?

There you go-I post something that refutes what you said and you try to back away from it. Bush did not win by 537 electoral votes, since that is what you said he won by-
"Peoplefirst, By Gore's own recount rules Bush won by 537 votes.."
so are you talking about electoral votes or popul;ar votes?I posted the totals for popular vote and it shows that Gore won the popular vote. And since there are only 538 electoral votes up for grabs, somewhere you got it very wrong." Oct 19, 10 10:49 PM

read my post about the right wing agenda-your comment is a perfect example of what I said about creating division between government and the people. The far right wing agenda lives!!!" Oct 19, 10 10:51 PM

actually, the closeness of the race triggered an automatic recount-
"When the initial count was completed on November 18, Franken was trailing Coleman by 215 votes.[4][5] This close margin triggered a mandatory recount"

when th voteere re-counted,Franken was determined to be the winner

But then-

"On January 6, 2009, Coleman's campaign filed an election contest and on April 13, a three-judge panel dismissed Coleman's Notice of Contest and ruled that Franken had won the election by 312 votes
Coleman’s appeal of the panel's decision to the Minnesota Supreme Court was unanimously rejected on June 30,[11] and he conceded the election.[12] Al Franken was sworn in as the junior Senator from Minnesota on July 7, 2009.[13]

so the tax increase is the result of Bush policy.what you want is another tax cut along the same lines, which is what the dems have proposed, minus the tax cut for the top earners. The dems would be glad to give that, but the republicans won't do it without extending the tax cuts for the richest.
Actually, extending the tax cuts will add tom the debt-about 3 trillion dollars-so if they expire, there will less additional debt ccrued.Let them expire. The additional tax revenue can then be applied toward paying down the debt your all unhinged about.

Altschuler balks; debate with Bishop canceled

the right doesn't want to pay taxes. They want a free ride.
Why do they hate the government?I posted some thoughts on it in the other article and called them out on their obsession with taxes.
The right doesn't want to pay for societal necessities-they just want to freeload

" Oct 20, 10 7:37 AM

you don't give a rats ass about children, your only using that argument to support your tax cut argument. If you really cared about kids yo'd support education head start and anti-poverty programs.Instead, the right wants to pay off the debt by attacking social programs and education which will target a narrow portion of the population who need those services more than anyone needs a tax cut. The right isn't serious about reigning in the deficit because they aren't willing to admit that the sacrifices that need to be made will cost.

Nobody likes paying taxes, but if the right is really serious about paying down the debt and sharing sacrifice-something they rant on all the time-let all the tax cuts expire and apply the revenue toward the debt.Everybody sacrifices, everybody contributes." Oct 20, 10 8:12 AM

well, its that the attention span thing. When you depend on one-way media for your talking points it tends to dull the mind." Oct 20, 10 8:14 AM
