Obama adding the costs of the wars Bush started and never added to the budget had nothing to do with increasing the debt?
What about the republican congress rubber-stamping Bush's budgets without debate?
Obama has re-organised how the national debt is figured out so it includes all the spending that wasn't included in the budgets in the past.

Who are we at war with? What country? When did congress declare this war,and with whom, since ccording to the constitution.only the congress has the power to declare war?Why haven't we caught the son of Bush's friend and financier? Is it possible to be at war with a tactic-Terror?" Jun 4, 10 9:28 PM

He can act in the event of an imminent threat and take pre-emptive action, but there were no imminent threats from either country that Bush took action against. The attack on Iraq was based on lies and the attack on Afghanistan was the first time in history that the U.S. ever initiated an attack on another country without provocation.
Bush overstepped his authority." Jun 5, 10 6:59 AM

by the way, rticle 2 section 2 says he is the commander in cheif of the armd forces, not that he can declare war or commit troops.
Check article 1,section 8,which grants sole authority to declare war to congress;war was never declared on eithr Iraq or Afghanistan" Jun 5, 10 7:09 AM

No,its not my opinion, its directly from the constitution, which I have right in front of me right now.Anybody with the aptitude to work a keyboard can look it up themselves.
If the founding fathers were so worried about tyranny so as to revolt, why would they allow so much power to the executive, such as giving him the sole power to declare war?Couldn't that lead to the same kind of tyranny that they just revolted against?
And if the Founding fathers were so intent on giving the president such power, why did they outline the powers of the congress in Article 1 and the powers o the president in Article 2,with no mention of the president having the singular power to declare war?
" Jun 5, 10 8:00 PM

You would have to know the difference between pre-emptive war and preventive war to understand the presidential justification for entry into Korea.
It was at the height of the Joe McCarthy era and the red care, far of the involvement of the Soviet Union and Red China at the time pompted Truman to react, with the approval of the U.N.,to intervene and stem the spread of communism." Jun 5, 10 8:09 PM

you seem to forget about Dennis Kucinich and Bernie Sanders (an admitted socialist)
Very doubtful they will be thrown out,all the right has is fringe elements that seem to be self-destructing.I'm looking forward to their re-election,and the addition of more democratic seats in the house and senate this November." Jun 5, 10 8:13 PM

This is from the War Powers Act of 1973,delineating the power to declare war-
"SEC. 2. (a)
It is the purpose of this joint resolution to fulfill the intent of the framers of the Constitution of the United States and insure that the collective judgement of both the Congress and the President will apply to the introduction of United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicate by the circumstances, and to the continued use of such forces in hostilities or in such situations.
SEC. 2. (b)
Under article I, section 8, of the Constitution, it is specifically provided that the Congress shall have the power to make all laws necessary and proper for carrying into execution, not only its own powers but also all other powers vested by the Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.
SEC. 2. (c)
The constitutional powers of the President as Commander-in-Chief to introduce United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, are exercised only pursuant to (1) a declaration of war, (2) specific statutory authorization, or (3) a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces."

Bush used deception to involve us in Iraq,he was justified and supported in his aggression against Afghanistan, but abandoned that war in favor of escalating the war in Iraq.
" Jun 5, 10 8:21 PM

I never said that, and you know it,as does everybody else here who reads this forum.,Don't make stuff up just to support your argument because yoiu don't like Obama for whatever the reason is this week." Jun 5, 10 9:26 PM

Of course you resort to personal attacks because you can't come up with a valid argument.Typical behavior,I've seen it a thousand times before." Jun 5, 10 9:30 PM

Again,no response to the topic, another personal attack. If you got nothin',why should anybody here read what you post?I gave intelligent answers based on facts that anybody can check out with a little effort, which seems beyond some posters here who are only interested in hate and misinformation. If all you have is shallow attacks and talking points, good luck getting respect from anybody here who is willing to take the initiative and research what either of us say.Its about time more people become willing to call out some of the right wing blowhards and bullies around here." Jun 6, 10 7:49 AM

"So now Bush didn't insure the collective judgment of Congress either."

No he didn't.He never met the requirements of congress to justify the invasion of Iraq;he never proved there were WMD's,he never established a connection between Saddam Hussein and al Quaida,he never proved there was a meeting between al Quaida and Iraqi officials,he lied about Iraq trying to obtain yellowcake uranium from Niger, then outed a covert CIA agent to avenge the fidings of that proof. All the statements in his SOTU address in 2003 were based on estimates and conjecture from the findings of UNSCOM who were unable to find the WMD's, which, after seven years still haven't been found because Saddam Hussein was for the most part complying with the terms of the first Gulf war. Of course Hussein was posturing,he needed to in order to
keep Iran from becoming the leading power in the region, which they did when Bush attacked Iraq. The U.N. weapons inspectors never found the weapons, neither did we,and Bush forced the weapons inspectors out of Iraq when he made it clear an attack was inevitable." Jun 6, 10 7:33 PM

II won't "give it a rest"

Maybe some of you should learn to converse and debate an issue without making personal attacks.

There is a lot of rhetoric about government, yet when even those who cry about government's size and structure won't pursue an issue they, in fact, do more to promote the corruption and status quo than to fight it. Its a lazy mans' way to feed their own self-importance, just crawling on your belly like a snake on a flag and not participating in improving the process.Attacking and ridiculing others with different view points only further isolates your own position." Jun 6, 10 7:52 PM

If I made an attack that you took personally,I apologisefor using rhetoric similar to your own." Jun 7, 10 8:31 AM

That wasn't an apology." Jun 7, 10 6:49 PM

Shinnecocks expect final word on recognition Tuesday

Congratulations to the Shinnecock Nation for finally getting the recognition they deserve.
Its ironic that a native American tribe that was one of the first to welcome white European settlers to our shores had to wait 400 years for the descendants of those settlers to recognise the legitimacy of their existence.
I hope this helps them improve the conditions for their people and and though it can't make up for the injustices of the past, will promote healing that is so long overdue between our people." Jun 16, 10 7:16 AM

Your obviously contemptous of the constitution.
Either that,or ou have no idea what your talking about.
I'll go with #2" Jul 6, 10 11:45 AM

It isn't rocket science, there's a lot to agree about;but we need to get past the partisan sh*t first. We also need to strip the issue and come to terms with the fact that we all will have to make concessions and compromises;what you posted makes sense;theres a lot to it all and part of it will be things like continuing to teach english language skills but allowing some of the teaching to be done in Spanish, since concepts that are already difficult to understand would only become more complicated if taught in a language one hasn't yet mastered. There are lots of issues to address, but I do agree that a path to citizenship is necessary. At least that will assure a handle on the illegals already here, and casts a shadow of suspicion on those who don't honestly want to become a citizen.
The employment problem is much more complicated;Job creation in some new fields need to funded and encouraged;renewable and alternate energy systems, etc. We will still be dependent on oil because our transportation system is based on it,but, again, developing mass transit systems and utilising existing rail systems can help eliminate some traffic congestion, thus reducing some oil consumption. Many years ago,I remember freight being delivered by rail and distributed by smaller, local trucking companies.
These are all ideas that need to bediscussed and debated,I don't have all the answers, but if we can reach at least some common ground (like we did on this topic) it leaves room for discussion instead of bickering, which doesn't do any of us any good.

Andre Bauer of South Carolina said that about the poor.

"Republican Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer of the bible-thumping state of South Carolina revealed his very special version of compassionate conservatism during a recent speech to his constituents, when he compared poor people on welfare to stray cats and dogs. Providing hungry people with an “ample food supply,” says Bauer only encourages the great unwashed of our society to breed more poor wretches whom the state is forced to feed. "" Jul 10, 10 8:23 PM

I would need to see proof of "families on welfare for generations".The suggestion that we limit people from 'breeding' sounds more than a little like neutering the poor because they are undesirable and need to be either controlled or eliminated, which is a dangerous suggestion." Jul 11, 10 7:30 AM

I understand what your saying;I didn't mean to come across in a negative way, there are more than a few on these forums who have extreme positions to my right;I am not afraid of being called a 'lefty' or a 'liberal',as defined by JFK.

Wal street and corporate America have driven the working class down since Reagans' time at least;wages have been flat for years, even Greenspan when he addressed the fed at one point appeared proud of the fact that wages are suppressed because of fear created by corporate entities. All news and advertising is geared toward benefitting business, creating an aristocracy and an impovershed class while squeezing the middle class out of existence.
Clinton had the workfare program to employ welfare recipients, but it was ended;we need someting like that again to employ people, maybe working in community service jobs-working at the dump, senior citizen centers, etc.
A big part of the immigration problem in this area is that the illegals are taking some jobs from the construction industry that pay well enough to help modestly support a family;skilled trades are safe but ewntering their fields is tough.
I support apath to citizenship, but we must require strict adherence and maybe have benchmarks. We'll never be able to just ship them all out no matter how angry people are;there are too many and the logistics are too complicated." Jul 11, 10 8:11 PM

Interesting that this surfaced today-

"Late on a Saturday night two weeks ago, an unemployed carpenter packed his mother's Toyota Tundra with guns and set off for San Francisco with a plan to kill progressives.

When California Highway Patrol officers stopped him on an interstate in Oakland for driving erratically, Byron Williams, wearing body armor, fired at police with a 9mm handgun, a shotgun and a .308-caliber rifle with armor-piercing bullets, Oakland police say. Shot and captured after injuring two officers, Williams, on parole for bank robbery, told investigators that he wanted "to start a revolution" by "killing people of importance at the Tides Foundation and the ACLU," according to a police affidavit. His mother, Janice, told the San Francisco Chronicle that her son had been watching television news and was upset by "the way Congress was railroading through all these left-wing agenda items"

There is excessive spending in Washington.
We could start by cutting the defense budget-there's no need to spend more than the next 20 countries combined on defense while the people of this country are struggling, losing their homes and unemployed.
Start by cutting defense and reirecting that money toward infrastructure, education and healthcare, all of which have problems of their own. These are issues that will benefit everyone for the long term;when you make a bullet,it is used once and gone forever.Invest back into improving the country and stop wasting our damn money on being the worlds police force.
With the savings,we could even releive some of the tax burden on the middle class." Aug 1, 10 7:14 AM

Tea Party Meet the Candidates Night

The tea party is long on rhetoric and short on details.
How are they going to cut taxes further? What progrms are they going to change, cut or de-fund?
Don't try the terror suspects? What about the 4th,5th,6th and 8th amendments?
As far as the democrats are concerned, they've been opposed and stalled by the republicans through filibustering for the last 2 years. How many republicans actually voted for bills that were designed to try to improve the present conditions? (actually two-the senators from Maine have crossed party lines several times, and been villified for it)
The Tea Party has presented itself as an alternative, but the proposals they've made are wek and they suffer the stigmatism of the most vocal radicalism this country has seen in its history. " Aug 12, 10 7:38 AM

I googled "Tea Party Platform" and got this-

" Aug 12, 10 8:08 PM

I didn't know google was a viscious wing of the mass media.Anybody can look at any story about the tea party and find ridiculous positons.Attacking the media and villifying liberals has been done before, and the world rejected it.
Anybody can google the Tea party and see the positions they advocate;Rand Paul wants to give businesses the right to discriminate,Michelle Bachman wants to spend the next few years litigating against the democrats at he expense of the country,Sharon Angle only wants the media to talk about issues she chooses-this is not what America wants.
Candidates who call themselves Tea Partiers have expessed positions, shall we say, a bit out of the mainstream. Bachman,Palin,Angle,Paul-all of them have shown interest in policies that would actually diminish the well-being of the country.
The a party is a ruse to get the republicans back in power;a fringe element supporting republican policies and trying to benefit from the movement of change." Aug 13, 10 7:44 AM

I don't consider a party with policies that neither address provide solutions that would benefit anybody except themselves a viable choice to lead this country;.
The tea party is a far right fringe group;if you beleive that the republicans are acting like the democrats it shows how out of touch the tea party is." Aug 13, 10 10:41 PM

I didn't cherry pick anything;I invite anyone on this board to do their own search of the tea party and to explore the policies they advocate so they can reach their own conclusions.Anyone willing to do their own research can decide what is truth and what is promotional propaganda for themselves.

make your case for all the policies you advocate in your post; be specific and clear, cite what the policies the tea party are proposing and provide links to those policies.Otherwise its just spin and propaganda to deceive and take advantage of those who only only willing to accept hearsay as evidenc.. How would you like your crow cooked?

1. “Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?”
2. “Right. So you go into Darfur and you go into South Africa, you get rid of the white government there. You put sanctions on them. You stand behind Nelson Mandela — who was bankrolled by communists for a time, had the support of certain communist leaders. You go to Ethiopia. You do the same thing.”
3. “Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”
4. “The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”
5. “They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?”
6. [To an African American female caller]: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”
7.” I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They’re interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there’s a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn’t deserve.”
8. Limbaugh’s many attacks on Obama.
-‘halfrican American’
-‘affirmative action candidate.’
-‘Barack the Magic Negro’
9. “We need segregated buses… This is Obama’s America.”
10. “Obama’s entire economic program is reparations/”

my label stands corrected. We'll trade one 'ugly' for another.

My point is that it shows a contempt,a very real-and disgusting-dislike for people without consideration for its affect. It is no only inflammatory,it breeds divisiveness." Aug 15, 10 7:24 AM

that's the same thing Limbaugh does.
congratulations. You just proved your just like him." Aug 15, 10 7:25 AM

my previous comment was directed at razza, not you,Ice." Aug 15, 10 7:27 AM

Rush made a point of repeatedly playing it on his nationally syndicated show.He was promoting rascism.
" Aug 15, 10 8:33 PM

I posted facts, which you have been unable to refute.
All you have is spin and talking points.
" Aug 15, 10 8:34 PM

Obviously Rush's fans are unable to counter the facts presented, except to say "No,He isn't!"

LOL!!" Aug 15, 10 8:36 PM

Many of the proposed policies have been watered down in an attempt to gain bi-partisan support, which Obama will obviously never get.The only republicans who have supported him were the two from maine and Scott Brown from massachussetts-who won with tea party support but has been abandoned because he did vote for one of Obama's proposals-a vicrim of the RINO label." Aug 15, 10 8:40 PM

I don't waste time I'll never get back listening to him.
We don't rip 'anyone who is against our agenda';that's a strawman argument which is what the right does all the time.
we oppose ignorant, stupid, selfish, lying bullies who use their platform to spread hate and misinformation.

Rush is the defacto leader o the republican party. No republican can contradict or oppose him without having to apologise and kiss his butt afterward on his show." Aug 15, 10 10:13 PM

People can listen to both sides and decide which side is more inflammatory, which appeals to hate. They can fact check both sides as well and use that info in their decision.
Or they can just blindly listen to the commentators of their choice if it fits their personal preferences." Aug 16, 10 7:42 AM

Dick Armey?
let people decide for themselves.

naturally,you'll dispute the sources,but that's just part of the agenda,isn't it?" Aug 16, 10 7:55 AM

I'm givin an alternative to the information being spooned here .If your afraid of it,don't read it." Aug 16, 10 1:46 PM

What I posted wasn't my list, either,it was put together by a friend of mine who let me post it here.
But mine is factual." Aug 16, 10 1:54 PM

I don't see you providing anything but opinion and talking poits, neither of which anyone but you take seriously.
If you have sources, post them.I have other sources, too. But you would apparently just make noise than offer proof." Aug 16, 10 7:33 PM

The democrats don't march in lockstep like the republicans do;the tea party movement is just a way to get republicans back in power.Republicans started calling themselves independents when they became embarrassed by republican policies, now they're labeling themselves tea partiers and trying to get their candidates elected. There is little difference between the tea party policies and the republican policies of the past." Aug 16, 10 7:37 PM

what snopes link?" Aug 17, 10 11:39 AM

Keeping fingers crossed when it comes to hurricane preparedness

"Guns and ammo to protect your family and property from the looters and survival food "

"I've rode out a good number of hurricanes over the years and I'm prepared to do it again"

and how many people did you have to shoot?
" Aug 23, 10 10:35 AM

It's okay to stock up on guns and ammo if you're afraid of your neighbors." Aug 23, 10 12:30 PM

After all, they're armed with TRUTH LOL!" Aug 23, 10 1:40 PM
