Condos in exchange for Canoe Place Inn restoration plan receives mixed reviews

That a tempting offer to find a compliant private STP for a lobster dinner. I thought the average amount of water was 600 gal per day. Of course they will pump the treated water into the bay and it will be flushed into the ocean as the tide goes out. I am no fan of STPs and was curious what your take on it was. I know the town operated STP in Riverhead routinely gets more than it can handle and then it pumps untreated waste right into the Peconic River. Then everyone is surprised when Brown or Red Tides show up. There is as reason low tide smells so bad crossing bridge on 105 over the Peconic River... the STP!

Southampton Village Police sergeant suspended

Whoa, you don't actually think there are many if any cops working in the village qualified to work for Blackwater or Xe as it is now called?

They would be in actual danger if they did work for that type of outfit. Lets be real here aside from the trooper who lost control of his vehicle on black ice and died a couple of years ago, can you recall or show where a Southampton, East Hampton Town or Village officer has died in the line of duty. Police in Suffolk County are fairly safe. On the east end the level of safety rises dramatically. This isn't to say they should be paid well, just to ease up on the they face death every day hype. Statistics would suggest riding a bike is far more dangerous!" Jul 22, 10 3:29 PM

Wainscott community members see disconnect in developer's vision for Plitt Ford property

Laszlo Lowenstein - your point has a huge weak spot, that is that the majority of our fresh produce comes from out side the country. Furthermore the people who cross AZ border don't necessarily stay there or take farm jobs. How do you think your landscaper got here? The majority of the restaurant kitchens here on the east end are staffed by people from Central & South America, think they are all legal? I have worked in many and more often than not they are ILLEGAL! Many are very nice and hard working, but still ILLEGAL!

Just curios do you support Israel securing it's borders with the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon? If so why the double standard in how you see our border issues. Don't try to say terrorists haven't crossed the Mexican border in to the US, because it has already been established that they have. " Jul 23, 10 2:34 AM

The small stores nearby will make it, the Seafood Shop & Breadzilla have a loyal customer base who will still seek their products. The seafood dept. in any supermarket just can't compare to what the Seafood Shop offers in freshness & locally sourced products. While these stores mentioned all would have a bakery, once again the products offered by Breadzilla are of artisan quality which the supermarket bakeries can't touch. The Bagel store could go either way, they do primarily a breakfast business, which I don't see the supermarket competing with. While their lunch business could be affected by a cafe feature in the supermarket. " Jul 23, 10 2:46 AM

The reason I bring up the border question is that the first step in solving our illegal immigration problem is securing the borders. Then dealing with those here illegally in whatever manner is worked out. We can't just create a path to citizenship with the borders open as it will only provide additional incentive for people to enter our country illegally. We have been too lenient in our border enforcement for decades, it is time to clamp down." Jul 23, 10 2:52 AM

Southampton Village Police sergeant suspended

IGA failed because as supermarket it sucks! Blame it on what you will, but a lack of selection and high prices doesn't bring in customers. If you want to see out of date items on the shelves, go to an IGA.Southampton could use another supermarket, wether or not it needs a Tuckahoe Main Street is another question. " Jul 23, 10 6:41 PM

Don't forget all the free land the Shinnecock and other tribe gave to the settlers. I wish there was a pill for ignorance you could be given." Jul 23, 10 6:55 PM

I agree with all you said except the cash having nothing to do with it. Let's be real, it does have a part in this, not that there is anything wrong with that either. The Native American people do deserve various grants and assistance due to the hardships imposed over the last 370+ years in this area. Wealth in the form of land has been passed down from one generation to the next in families of European decent. We must all remember that much of this land was stolen and what was bought was done so without a true understanding by the Native peoples of what they were selling.
What took place in 1859 and considering it was facilitated by the NYS legislature they should now fork over the SUNY Southampton campus to the Shinnecock. A tribal college would be a great idea for the property. " Jul 23, 10 7:09 PM

State rejects towns' offer to settle fishing license case; fall trial expected.

I don't know about East Hampton, but Southampton has been handling this suit "in house" meaning Assistant Town Attorney Joe Lombardo is representing them. This costs the Town virtually nothing more as his salary is already in the budget.
I suggest looking into how your Town is handling this matter, then you can speak from an informed position." Jul 28, 10 11:51 PM

The DEC says that because the initial outcry was about more money leaving the Island to Albany never to be seen again. East Quogue woman files $70 million lawsuit against Suffolk County and Southampton Town

Could you show where in the law it says you "must" go directly home from a shooting range once done? The guns obviously weren't a legal issue as there were no charges related to them and they were returned once the bogus trespassing charge was dropped.

Law enforcement didn't do their job they stepped over the line.
If she broke the law as far as taking photos in a no photo area why was she not charged for that action? The trespass charge if it was to have been for her photo taking actions, was dismissed. What does that tell you about it's legality and validity? 5 days in jail on 50,000 bail for trespassing? After violating her 4th amendment rights against search and seizure.
The guns may not be popular with many people who are condemning her for this incident, but fact is they were legal and being legally and properly transported. You may not agree with her choice to own or operate them, but it is her right. The cash just doesn't make sense though, maybe she doesn't trust banks, which in this day and age isn't entirely unreasonable. Carrying that amount of cash around in unreasonable." Held 5 days in jail on an unsubstantiated charge is a case in and of itself. " Jul 30, 10 7:23 PM

Except people who think like you!" Jul 30, 10 7:24 PM

If the police did their job wouldn't the charge have stuck? It seems they failed by locking an innocent person up for 5 days on a bogus charge. I think they were right to check her out and verify her story, to ascertain whether or not she was in fact a "terrorist" which would be highly unlikely, being that she was stopped on the side of the road in broad daylight taking these pictures. A "terrorist would likely have their guns at the ready not stored in the trunk, following the proper procedure for transport. Besides the terrorists we need to worry about aren't likely going to be using guns to harm us, They like car bombs, IEDs and airplanes.
They should have checked her out verified her identity and right to have those weapons. The if the photos were an issue confiscate the memory card. Then release her as she posed no threat. " Jul 30, 10 7:35 PM

What makes someone a "whack job"? a. owning guns, b. not subscribing to a liberal ideology, c. not agreeing with you, d. all of the above" Jul 30, 10 7:39 PM

Who are you to determine what someone should or should not do with their time. Many people enjoy target shooting, if you don't that is fine. Anyone going to or coming from shooting range may be "carrying an assault rifle and shotgun as well as 500 rounds of ammo. Maybe more than just two weapons as the legal number you may transport is 19 so she was well within the law." Jul 30, 10 7:49 PM

Guess what, all of those shootings were done with pistols. Your logic doesn't hold, because she owns a guns she is going to use it in an illegal manner or to harm someone. The statistics just don't support you phobia. " Jul 30, 10 7:53 PM

They didn't "detain" her, they charged her with trespass, which didn't hold up in court. She was free to leave the jail upon posting $50,000. That isn't detainment, that is a wrongful arrest and malicious prosecution. The knew she wasn't a threat before she was removed the scene. If the photographs she took were so illegal why wasn't she charged with violating that law/policy? " Jul 30, 10 8:00 PM

Even if she were a loose cannon that wouldn't change her equal protection under the constitution. " Jul 30, 10 8:05 PM

How do you propose I speak those dead people? We will see who was right when this case goes to trial, I'm betting there will be a payout considering she was held on a bogus charge." Jul 30, 10 8:37 PM

Get a grip the Airmen were never in danger. " Jul 30, 10 8:46 PM

What law did she break? Why wasn't she charged with this law she broke? Obviously the trespassing didn't occur or it wouldn't have been dismissed.
Please give your opinion on guns, not that it will be supported by any law or facts. Just your ignorance on the matter.
You seem to be interested in laws being upheld. here is a comment you posted:

Sounds like you don't support our Federal immigration law, are certain laws optional when it comes to enforcement?

How thick are you? Her being held in jail for 5 days had nothing to do with the Patriot Act and it's provisions for unconstitutional detainment of American citizens.

Yes, you said from, but interpreted it differently than in was meant in the context used.

I would imagine the "kooks" who have trust funds don't have to play the waiting game, they fly to were there are waves! Being a real surfer isn't determined by one economic status, it is in their love of the activity and their edict in the water.

Two guns is an arsenal? You are so hysterical is is amazing. People like you are the reason the NRA exists.

"You are a potentially dangerous person." This is a benign statement as any human being operating a motor vehicle is "potentially dangerous". Ease up on your support for thought crime and worst case scenario paranoia. " Aug 1, 10 6:42 PM

Yeah in other parts of the world, so your point is what? Kim Jong il wouldn't stand for it, so why should we? This is America still, I think.
If it is as you say and she was detained for her rants, then the allegations in her lawsuit seem to have some factual support. You can't detain some one because you don't agree with their ideology if they haven't broken the law. Think about it, she was charged by the county for breaking a federal law, this makes no sense.
