Mattituck woman gets 6-month sentence for DWI accident that killed Hampton Bays boy

This is outrageous...I pass by that road every day. That section of Ponquogue is right in front of the school. There are ALWAYS children there, either riding their bikes or walking to and from school...not to mention other pedestrians. The speed limit is 20 mph. By permitting this woman to walk away with 6 months in a "jail", it's sending the message that driving while drunk is ok. How protected are our children? I also feel for the young boy's parents...I hope they find peace in their faith and family, friends. For that woman, shame on you. Endangering your child and killing someone else, you don't deserve to ever be out of jail...I hope that you spend your life in remorse of your mistakes and educating others not to do the same thing. Mother of drunk driving victim protests sentence

isn't the point here that had she not been drunk, even if the child did swerve into the car, she would've had the reaction to brake? i don't understand how a woman can be intoxicated behind the wheel and the law is mincing words over whether or not the child was riding his bike safely. also, i wrote this elsewhere as well- most people drive 20-30mph on that road...had she been driving that speed she should've been able to brake in time to prevent killing him.

With the increasing number of accidents with drunk mothers behind the wheel, I think the law needs to be stricter in enforcing laws against drunk driving. " Jun 20, 10 11:34 PM
