Congressman Bishop prepares for difficult race but remains hopeful for outcome

Funny thing about those "nutty" "neo-con" tea baggers, a recent national survey identified 4 of 10 as democrats or independents. Be careful about the labeling, it might just tell more about YOU than the group you are trying to delegitimize. The view looks alot different from outside the asylum than inside.

According to projections by the Tax Policy Center, a Washington research organization, about 47 percent will pay no federal income taxes at all for 2009. Either their incomes were too low, or they qualified for enough credits, deductions and exemptions to eliminate their liability. The study finds the result is a tax system that exempts almost half the country from paying for programs that benefit everyone, including national defense, public safety, infrastructure and education. It is a system in which the top 10 percent of earners -- households making an average of $366,400 in 2006 -- paid about 73 percent of the income taxes collected by the federal government. The bottom 40 percent, on average, make a profit from the federal income tax, meaning they get more money in tax credits than they would otherwise owe in taxes. For those people, the government sends them a payment.

OUTSTANDING!! Thank you Tim for fostering the American dream of dependence on government. " Apr 7, 10 8:25 PM

Wow… I think some translation is in order…
- FOX news poll = you mean, Rasmussen poll
- tea-baggers/under-educated group = you mean, group with an opposing opinion
- tea-baggers/large numbers of folks on medicare and social security (the very sort of programs they rail against) = you mean, real people who sometimes may need assistance, but don’t want to be owned by government.
- racist signs = I’ve been to several rallies, I haven’t seen a single one (but, I knew it wouldn’t be long before race was brought up). I would suggest that there may be other agendas here not associated with the TEA Party movement or the use of bad taste in trying to make a political point. They are certainly no worse than what goes on at military funerals by groups affiliated with the democratic party.
- Ever heard of Dick Armey and Freedom Works – No, but I googled them and I like what they are about, thanks for the tip! scrap the tax code, tort reform, welfare reform, lower taxes… in other words, everything that dems hate.
- Bush's tax cuts to the wealthy = a proven method to promote economic growth
- Bill Clintons 5.1 Trillion dollar surplus = never happened, it’ in the numbers. Clintons last budget proposal for FY 2001 had a deficit of 133 billion. There is a very good explanation of this myth here: http://www.craigsteiner.us/articles/16" Apr 9, 10 1:23 PM

"I wrote that IF Bush had been exposed to that level of abuse, he would have run home to Crawford, etc."

He was exposed to much more. No IF's about it. And yes, Bush did run home to Crawford.... after two terms as president." Apr 9, 10 4:59 PM

Facts are fact regardless of the source. I welcome all sources of information as long as they are based on fact. I‘ve found that discussion based on emotion is nothing more than opinion and doesn’t warrant much credence. Emotional “fact” is just plain intellectually lazy. I understand that you are afraid of the TEA Party movement as it goes against the grain of your strongly held beliefs and threatens the foundation of these beliefs. But the vast majority of people from all walks of life and political affiliation are tired of the political nonsense from both sides of the political spectrum. The result is a TEA Party movement that is founded in fiscal responsibility, limited government, and free markets. These values are far from the ignorant, fearful, hate and hypocrisy filled misrepresentations you claim. To the contrary, they espouse liberty and freedom. " Apr 9, 10 10:15 PM

"You are hung up on semantics"... you bet we are....

A close reading of the bill finds several terms to describe the tax Americans will pay if they choose not to purchase qualifying health insurance. These terms include "payment," "assessment," and "individual responsibility." This same tax has also variously been referred to as a "penalty," a "fee," or a "fine." In fact, it's none of those things, It's a tax. The various synonyms used are designed to hide that simple fact. The reason for wanting to do so is clear: since this tax would be assigned to any uninsured American (including those making less than $250,000 per year), it's a pretty apparent violation of BO's promise not to raise "any form" of taxes on working families.

Yet another campaign promise broken." Apr 12, 10 9:40 PM

I'll take free society for $500 Alex. Please, point me to where someone said they don't want to pay taxes, they are saying they have a problem with ADDITIONAL taxes. How is that hypocrisy? And please, the problem is that EACH AND EVERY INDIVIDUAL is NOT sharing in the cost. What hog wash. Under BO and supported by Tim Bishop, government has run amuck, America is broke the deficit has exploded and people are concerned about it. Margaret Thatcher said, the problem with socialism is that eventually you eventually run out of other people’s money. How true. Tax Freedom Day, the day each year where you have paid all the taxes you will owe and you finally begin working for yourself, was on April 9. Adjusted for the budget deficit, it is really on May 15. Five months of the year working, just to break even on paying taxes. The US is on the verge of losing its AAA bond rating because of out of control spending. Without AAA status, the cost of our debt will sky rocket like nothing we've seen and we will NEVER be "free" from debt. And yes, there are many many people who are just as unhappy with the spending under Bush. He many have been a republican by party name, but he was no conservative. " Apr 13, 10 3:28 PM

My point exactly!! BO and Tim to a T. " Apr 13, 10 5:17 PM

Yup, they are runnining scared. They are trying everything in the play book to discredit and marginilize a group of people whose only "crime" is voicing opposition to the beloved BO. The story about infiltators to the Tea Party broke recently, the head genius had this to say... “Do I think every member of the Tea Party is a homophobe, racist or a moron? No, absolutely not,” he said. “Do I think most of them are homophobes, racists or morons? Absolutely…Every time we have someone on camera saying that Barack Obama isn’t an American citizen, we want someone sitting next to him saying, ‘That’s right, he’s an alien from outer space!’”

You'd think if there were so many homophobes and racists within the group they wouldn't need any help. " Apr 13, 10 7:37 PM

A neocon is what you call someone when you begin to lose an argument and your posts turn into emotionally driven rhetoric with no facts. A teabagger is someone who believes in limited government, fiscal responsibility, personal responsibility and the rule of law - things that drive liberals crazy. Some teabaggers have also been known to respond to baseless message board posts by teabagees, usually after said teabaggee makes a reference to racism or some other baseless accusation or conclusion. " Apr 13, 10 8:06 PM

Case in point... someone who knows nothing about me personally other than my perceived affiliation with a group and opposing point of view has made the prejudged determination that I am filled with hate and ignorance. " Apr 14, 10 12:13 PM

Local Tea Party movement holds two rallies on Tax Day

zaz wrote --> "Please first explain how we are supposed to pay for the debt accumulated by GWB, after Clinton handed him a balanced budget? That is still the vast majority of the current debt. Oh and the Congressional Budget Office says that health care will pay for itself, and then some. And thats a fact. ."

Lies, lies, lies.... Clinton NEVER had a balanced budget. The majority of todays debt is a result of Obama and the CBO scoring was based on political inaccuracies. Bad information results in bad scoring. These are facts. " Apr 22, 10 8:38 AM

Ok, change the point as you go.... first you mention debt, now we're on to budget surpus. I can play that too. Don't forget, Clinton had a republican Congress to deal with. Congress puts forward the budget to the President. In 1998 (the year the budget was approved) Clinton's policies were moving to the right because of political pressure surrounding his personal screw ups. He realized he had to get along to get anything done. Republican efforts like Welfare Reform drastically reduced the budget defecit. The bill was a cornerstone of the Republican Contract With America who believed welfare was partly responsible for bringing immigrants to the United States. Gee, you think?" Apr 24, 10 12:25 PM

The Tea Party supports fiscal responsibility. Ron Paul suggested ending overseas engagements to pay for health care, not close all bases. Liberals and conservatives, they all like to spend he has said. And he is correct. I think many wouldn't have as big a problem with health care if there was a believeable budget neutral plan; claims that health care is budget neutral are a joke. Currenty, combined with obligations overseas, health care has bankrupted America and BO and the liberal congress (Bishop included) has exhibited zero fiscal responsibility.

As far as NPR goes, it's a waste of tax payer money. Government has no business subsidizing radio content. " Apr 24, 10 6:09 PM

Comments from Bill Clinton on Iraq in 1998: http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1998/02/17/transcripts/clinton.iraq/

I won't comment on N Korea, only on what Clinton to Bush beleived about Iraq. Here is text from one of Clintons speeches on Iraq and his beleive of the danger they posed.

"Now, let's imagine the future. What if he fails to comply, and we fail to act, or we take some ambiguous third route which gives him yet more opportunities to develop this program of weapons of mass destruction and continue to press for the release of the sanctions and continue to ignore the solemn commitments that he made?

Well, he will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then conclude that he can go right on and do more to rebuild an arsenal of devastating destruction.

And some day, some way, I guarantee you, he'll use the arsenal. And I think every one of you who's really worked on this for any length of time believes that, too."

Many so called republicans will agree that Bush was a spendaholic and in no way a fiscal conservative. The Tea Party is not affiliated with the Republican Party and if anything the GOP is concerned about the Tea Party movement since the introduction of a third party may jeapardize throwing the libs out of congress and the white house in the next elections. According to Sigmund Freud, Projection is a psychological defense mechanism whereby one "projects" one's own undesirable thoughts, motivations, desires, and feelings onto someone else. Projection often means projecting false accusations, information, etc onto an individual for the sole purpose of maintaining a self created illusion. Projection is an especially commonly used defense mechanism in people with certain personality disorders such as Paranoid personality disorder, Narcissistic personality disorder, or Antisocial personality disorder. How is this government intrusion?

FOR ANY --->LAWFUL CONTACT REASONABLE SUSPICION UNLAWFULLY<--- PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).

If Goldman Sachs is found to be in violation of law or regulations, I'm certain the vast majority of Teabaggers and bagees alike will conlude they should be prosecuted or fined. If they broke no law or regulation, so be it. Business ethics is entirely different and if you expected anything different from wall street you're kidding yourself. " Apr 30, 10 12:42 PM

Let's try one more time... How is this government intrusion?

For any LAWFUL CONTACT made by a law enforcement official or agency of this state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state where REASONABLE SUSPICION exists that the person is an alien who is UNLAWFULLY present in the united states, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the person. The person's immigration status shall be verified with the federal government pursuant to 8 united states code section 1373(c)." Apr 30, 10 12:54 PM

Let me solve this.... Mr. Obama.. enforce current immigration law and don't use the illegal immigration issue as a vehicle to secure votes for the next election. To quote politician Rubio who is tryihg to win an election and probably doens't want ot upset the apple cart too much (duuhh): "I hope Congress and the Obama Administration will use the Arizona legislation not as an excuse to try and jam through amnesty legislation, but to finally act on border states’ requests for help with security and fix the things about our immigration system that can be fixed right now – securing the border, reforming the visa and entry process, and cracking down on employers who exploit illegal immigrants.”

Problem solved." May 1, 10 10:28 AM

Law enforcement will use the skills and tools they have developed just as they would with any other crime.... they will ask them quesitons to build the reasonable suspician... law enforcement does this every day with other violations/crimes. Consider this scenario: Question: Where were you born sir? Answer: Long silence. Finally responds, Ummm Tucson. Officer responds and asks another question: Oh, I love t there. What hospital? Again, long pause. I don't know he finally answers (no se). Oh, Ok, the officer responds. Well where do you live now?, the officer asks. Again long pause with no immediate answer, but finally answers - Phoenix. What street? Again long pause with no immediate response... SEE, no racially profiling needed. I know what hospital I was born in... I know what street I live on....

As far as you Goldman Sachs commernts, please don't bore me with your grasping at straws anaolgies of free markets = blah blah blah no substance BS. Yawn...." May 1, 10 6:43 PM

Thank you for providing your socialist-no rule of law values and commentary. It demonstrates just how important elections are. Police make decisions every day without "objective critieria." It's clear that you live in a black-white world where everything has to fit into a nice neat package. Until blonde haired sweedish people start invading us from Mexico and do I dare say slamming airplanes into buildings, it is what it is. Simple interview techniques go a long way with the issues in Arizona and around the country. And don't forget, any questioning of this sort is taking place after a lawful encounter., of which they'd be asking for identification anyway.

I know that you know the tea Party movement is just over a year old. Where the movement is going remains to be seen. I suggest you look outside your black-white prism to see the bigger picture of a relatively new movement and people that don't like the direction their country is going and see complete failure of the federal government at many levels. " May 2, 10 12:08 PM

Blatant misconceptions. The act specifically forbids racial profiling. Period.
" May 3, 10 9:50 AM

Each and every lawful encounter will need to be supported by articulable facts that led to the immigration check - checks and balances, if you will. Obama himself has politically sensationalized the law and has misconceptions (so I'm not surprised that many here and the thousands marching have them as well). You can imagine, if you are a Hispanic American in Arizona ..." the president said last Tuesday, "suddenly, if you don't have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, you're going to be harassed. WRONG. Last time I checked, eating ice cream wasn't illegal.

A final comment on your ascertion about Tea Partiers not having any substance. Up until recently the "party" has been more of a movement by voters than a political party. Voters don't generally have a platform in which to make campaign promises or voice political agenda. So, your conclusions, while accurate, are based on a misrepresentaion of reality. The bumper sticker slogans you referenced is part of politics. Obama got elected with them. Hope, Change we can Believe In. It's when the platform promises are broken the voters get irked. And many of the voters ARE irked. The rest already knew what we'd be getting. Fundamental Transformation as BO put it four days before the election ... you bet.

Finally, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the Tea Party movement that thinks government doesn't have a role in many aspects of society, or issues such as Free Markets. Again, while your conclusions are sound that you can't have Free Markets and government involvement, how you got to the conclusion and the premise for them is false and based on a misrepresentaion of reality. The Free Market concept doesn't mean that there be no government oversight or invovlement. It has more to do with the elimination of a governmental role in ownership and administration of the means of production or distribution of goods and services being provided. Think health care, particularly in the early drafts, and bailouts.

Rally held to support push for federal immigration reform

The term REFORM is code for amnesty. If the federal government would enforce the law already on the books, any discussion of states enacting immigration law will be moot. Law breakers should not be rewarded with green light amnesty and legal status. Number 19 has some good ideas.

Unfortunately for Mr., Ms. and Mrs. Legally In the Country, with Obama's numbers crashing, he will turn this into a political effort to secure votes and will cater to his base and those in the country illegally. Once again, 80% of the population paying the price for 20%. " May 5, 10 4:04 PM

Hot off the Washington Times press: The federal government is now $13 trillion in the red, the Treasury Department reported Wednesday, marking the first time the government has sunk that far into debt and putting a sharp point on the spending debate on Capitol Hill....

...At $13 trillion, that figure has risen by $2.4 trillion in about 500 days since President Obama took office, or an average of $4.9 billion a day. That's almost three times the daily average of $1.7 billion under the previous administration, and led Republicans on Wednesday to place blame squarely at the feet of Mr. Obama and his fellow Democrats.

Here in lies a huge difference with liberals and conservatives... you think Bush started the wars... conservatives tend to think the US was attacked first. I couldn't agree more that Bush was not a fiscal conservative. I never said he was, he wasn't much better than Barry. The Treasury Department numbers have nothing to do any alledged reorganization by Barry. You have to ask yourself, why would Barry do that when it doesn't play favorably on him? Answer is... it doesn't. No politician would if it doesn't work in their favor.

Bone up on your Constitution 101 - particularly Article 2, section 2. (insert rolling of the eyes). The President as commander in chief has the ability to defend the nation or to take military action without involving the Congress directly, An act or war committed against the United States can place the United States into a state of war, if the United States wishes to see the act in that light. Absent a declaration of war, the President can react to acts of war in an expedient fashion as he sees fit." Jun 5, 10 12:03 AM

This is of course, your opinion. I'm anxiously awaiting the formal charges. Although on paper it might appear that the powers of Congress with respect to war are more dominant, the reality is that Presidential power has been more important--in part due to the modern need for quick responses to foreign threats and in part due to the many-headed nature of Congress. Maybe you remember that "police action" in Korea. The Korean War was the first modern example of the U.S. being taken to war without a formal declaration, and this has been repeated in every armed conflict since. Now that I think of it, I'm also anxiously awaiting the charges on all the previous presidents who have waged "war", including the current president. We're now in year 9.5 plus and counting of Bush bashing... yawn....

So now Bush didn't insure the collective judgment of Congress either. Unbelievable. The war powers act requires the president to consult congress, which we all know he did. The only deception was done by Sadaam Hussein who intentionally mislead the world (pick a country, leader or US President - even Clinton) on his weapons capabilities. Everyone legitimately thought Iraq had a bigger weapons capability.

Tea Party Meet the Candidates Night

Partyfirst and Philathome, What proof have you uncovered about tea party members and their position? I don’t want to call into question your politically driven websites or personally drawn assumptions and conclusions, but your analogies in this case don’t make any sense. Not to mention, your links don’t match up to your comments. This leads me to believe that your comments have been pulled from mass produced sources prone to serve a very vicious political agenda.

You cite only partial aspects to stories, such as the proposed Mosque near ground zero, without considering that the Imam of the Mosque has stated that the US is to blame for 9/11. White you may be ok with that, many are not. Your assertions are questionable at best and they reek of desperation, fear and attempts to conceal the larger issues facing this country.

Tea Party Meet the Candidates Night

Phil, Google is a search tool... the politically driven and liberal agenda sites you've cherry picked to draw your conclusions in an attempt to make your point are the problem - but I'm sure you knew that already. Funny, when I google Tea Party I come up with core principles such Rule of Law, Enforcing Immigration, Balancing the Budget (didn’t Clinton do that?), Low Taxes, Minimal Government; all things that you apparently against. Try a different Google perhaps.

I get it. The politicians you cite have values and principles that you don’t agree with and as such you have the need to misrepresent facts to discredit those that threaten your party’s political power. I for one think that both mainstream party’s have, and are, driving this country into the ground. Reid, Pelosi, Bush in many regards, BO, they’re all out of the same mold. BO is the most liberal president this country has ever had, and perhaps not liberal enough for you and partyfirst. That’s a problem when most of the country describes themselves as right of center. This must be very frustrating for you and must make you very angry.

Phil, let's stay focused. Rather than debate "what-if's" of a party that doesn't even have any political power, let's discuss the party with the power: The stunning decline of Barack Obama: 10 key reasons why the Obama presidency is in meltdown

Partyfirst, you don't have to look any further than my postings to see you're wrong (again). Who said I was a tea party member?
The Gadsden flag is a historical American flag with a yellow field depicting a rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike. Positioned below the snake is the legend "DONT TREAD ON ME". The flag was designed by and is named after American general and statesman Christopher Gadsden. It was also used by the United States Marine Corps as an early motto flag." Aug 13, 10 2:02 PM
