You have correctly observed that in liberal "newspeak" not taking your earnings is now "spending".
Another phrase that appeared around the same time in discussions regarding taxes is "you won't even feel it.". " Dec 6, 11 12:02 PM
It's perfectly reasonable to put rules into place to protect all graves. It's a matter of human dignity.
However, why is this so complicated? There are plenty of jurisdictions that have had protections in place for decades, and they've worked out the "bugs" over a long period of practical experience.
Just find a model that works to protect grave sites, allow archealogical access if warranted, permits development to continue after any human remains are relocated, and duplicate it. Not every policy has to be reinvented from scratch by every small locality." Jan 5, 12 12:56 PM
When the minorty Democrats left the state of Wisconson in order to prevent voting on legislation from taking place, were they "obstructionists"?
I seem to recall the left cheering them on." Jan 7, 12 3:56 PM

Yes she can. She, and the rest of self appointed adjudocators of Racism® only have one card to play. What do you expect? A logical, intellectually honest debate?" Jan 7, 12 4:00 PM
In this country, the people express their political will by electing representatives. If they are displeased, they can vote those same representative out.
The people of Wisconson elected the governer, and elected enough Republicans for them to be the majority party in the State senate.
In the recall vote in August, the people rejected Democrats in 6 out of 8 elections, allowing the Republicans to keep the majority. According to you, this reaffirmation of the "people's will" should also be discarded.
It's actually frightening that you believe the Democrats have the right to override legitimate democracy because they are the sole arbiter of what the "people's will" is.

Nothing illustrates the need for a new supermarket in the area than this:
Waldbaums uses the same weekly sales flyer for every store west of WHB.
The WHB flyer is different, and not becuase the prices are lower." Jan 9, 12 3:38 PM
Stop & Shop, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes are the only supermarkets on the island that seem to have an interest in catering to the customer.
It's hard to believe that there are no Whole Foods or TJ's on the affluent east end, and precious few Stop and Shop's." Jan 9, 12 3:42 PM
Old Riverhead Road is about as industrial an area as exists in WHB. In this case, that area should have been zoned retail, as well as industrial.
I can't imagine anywhere else in town where the presence of a full sized supermarket wouldn't create all kinds of traffic problems.
Are you concerned that the sound a shopping carts banging around will drown out the jet engines and railroad noise?" Jan 10, 12 9:04 PM
If a cell tower's "radiation" is a concern, they better move into a hut, because the emission from a household microwave, computers, tv, CFL lights, and other devices commmon to a modern existance emit far, far more electromagnetic radiation than a cell tower." Jan 13, 12 5:05 PM
Hey Maxwell: I think the property your home sits on would make a nice community garden.
Please don't interfere with the bulldozers knocking down your house. Stop being so selfish and whining about your need for "shelter". Think about the community's needs for a change, instead of clamoring on about "private property".

Sorry progressnow, but we're still a democracy, and the only "poll" that matters is the one that takes place a the voting booth. The people gave you a taste of what they thought of your hard left politics in November 2010, and it's obvious you have no idea what's about to happen to you this November." Mar 28, 12 2:07 PM
I look forward to shoving these words right down your throat.
By the way, any comment on the head of Obama's job council, major doner, and good buddy Immelt? Has anyone outsourced more jobs than he has?
No, of course not, you're outrage is quite selective and self serving, isn't it?" Mar 28, 12 3:00 PM
Go ahead, take your time looking for a MoveOn.org or Huffington Post approved retort to how the man who is likely the single largest outsourcer in American history is at the heart of the Obama administration, particularly in light of how offensive you find outsourcing. " Mar 28, 12 3:21 PM

The fact that insurance companies didn't oppose the bill, and their stocks nearly doubled in value after it's (barely) passage seems to be lost on the liberal geniouses here." Mar 28, 12 4:01 PM
Wow, the last time I heard a stream of counciousness speech like that the guy giving it was missing a bunch of teeth, smelled like he bathed in Jack Daniels, wore a sign about how the "end was near".
Careful with that brain, you're stuffing so many distorted talking points into it you break the thing for good. " Mar 28, 12 4:08 PM
If you'd stick to a single, coherent subject, a rebuttal would be forthcoming.
For instance, care to offer an explanation of why GE's Immelt, a close ally of the administration and put in a majory advisory position to the president, is immune from criticism for enaging in the same behaviour (though to an exponentially greater degree) you've attacked Altschuler for? None of the other liberals here seem up to the challenge." Mar 28, 12 4:24 PM
I don't like outsourcing of our high skilled jobs to foreign countries. The economic reality is that no single company can stay in business if forced to compete with other companies that are allowed to access cheap labor. On a macroeconomic level, in a free market, it's actually not a bad thing for low skilled tasks to be sent to low wage markets, freeing up your own workforce to engage in more value added work.
Simple printing press operation will either be automated or sent to low skill low wage countries, for instance. Those jobs aren't going to be any more salvageable than whale oil processors are.
Jet engine and wind turbine manufacturing however, having high margins, are exactly the type of work that is nearly as profitable here as it is if the work is offshored. GE, in pursuing that tiny bit of extra profit is sending those jobs away.
Now, in light of this, doesn't it become obvious that the cries of anguish about Altshuler's outsourcing and silence about a presidential advisor's far more damaging and unnecessary outsourcing are about political opportunism and not really about outsourcing at all?" Mar 28, 12 4:36 PM
By the way, I don't normally put this degree of effort into a post becuase it's unlikely anyone here is ever going to give any ground regardless of the merit of the argument, and, ultimately, outside of the very few people who read and post here, no one cares, and we're not going to have any impact on anything.
Anyone who thinks they're making any sort of difference here is fooling themselves. This is just an outlet for catharsis, as evidenced by the overall "quality" of the discourse." Mar 28, 12 4:43 PM
The issue of whether or not your criticism of Altschuler is sincere or not is at the core of the issue. It's pretty clear you're a partisan phony who doesn't actually give a damn about the issue you're bleating about." Mar 29, 12 11:54 AM
I find your reference to "gigolos" offensive. Please find a more gender neutral term to describe them." Mar 29, 12 5:13 PM
Thank you, I'm much less offended now." Mar 29, 12 6:12 PM
You'll never see a comparison to auto insurance made in court (notice their was no reference in the SCOTUS oral arguments).
It's an entirely different thing, legally. A) Driving is a priveledge, not a right. B) Auto insurance requirements are for the protection of others, not you. C) Under our Constitution, states have the right to force you to buy things within their state (IE, gun locks) but the federal government's authority to do so only comes into play if the "commerce" crosses state lines. Over the years the federal government has been trying to breech this limit by suggesting, for instance, that if a doctor gives you an aspirin made outside of that state, ALL of your interactions with that doctor are subject to federal jurisdiction. Quite a slippery slope if you think people should be able to decide their laws locally." Mar 29, 12 6:19 PM
The vast majority of bullying has nothing to do with racism or bigotry, but simply kids who don't fit in.
For decades so called "progressive" activists and teachers didn't give a crap about the countless children suffering this abuse at the hands of other children and teachers. It's only since they turned it into an LGBT issue that they've taken up this cause. Straight white or asian kids need not apply." Mar 31, 12 11:29 AM

I love that childish "unarmed" mantra.
Care to guess how many people are murdered by thugs just as "unarmed" as Trayvon Martin was?
Martin had no wounds other than the gunshot. Zimmerman's head was split open. No matter what Zimmerman was doing, if he didn't assault Martin, and there's no evidence he did, Martin had no right to bash Zimmermands head into the ground." May 1, 12 8:56 PM
How can you speak with any authority as to what happened? You weren't there, and the witnesses who were contradict your assertions.
People like you are willing to toss justice out of the window to satisy your politically correct bloodlust.
Admit it phil, you'd just LOVE to see Zimmerman beaten to death, wouldn't you? Maybe his whole filthy "racist" family should be killed in the name of justice as well, eh phil?" May 1, 12 9:01 PM

You're an idiot." May 1, 12 9:03 PM
It's not a "non-sequitr" to point put you're one of the hypocrites that has rushed in to condemn the accused because of their skin color.
It's you, the very one who sees racism everywhere and throws out the accusation regularly, who is racist." May 1, 12 9:07 PM
I'm willing to allow the justice process to work, you see no need for that in your certainty of Zimmermans guilt, and your manipulative, deceptive framing of the situation "he was only armend with a bag of skittles"." May 1, 12 9:23 PM
What? I never said thart. YOU, on the other hand, always assume a racial motivation when the "victim" is a minority.
Do you suppose that those incredibly disproportionate murders of white men, women, and children by blacks were motivated by racial hatred? Naaah. Can't be. You'd never even consider that to be a possibility because on evil "whites" can be racist, right?" May 1, 12 9:27 PM
Construction USED to be a viable middle class trade, until leftists like progressnow joined with corrupt contractors to promote and enjoy the benefits of lower cost illegal alien labor, largely as a result of off not paying the employers ot employees share of employment taxes.

They have the right to be prosecuted and deported." May 6, 12 3:00 PM
Ice, hard leftits like peoplefirst and philathome who advocate for unlimited, uncontrolled immigration, anyone who can jump the border should be allowed to stay, are simply part of the "bring America down" movement.

How many years of school spending exceeding the rate of inflation will it take to "fix" the problem." May 16, 12 2:16 PM
Then how is it possible that per student spending is higher than it's ever been, in real terms?
You really are an intellectually dishonest person." May 16, 12 2:18 PM
No, you're getting screwed. There are school districts elsewhere in the country that charge far less in property taxes and produce much better academic results.
I guess demanding value for money from educational service providers would take too much effort on your part.
It's much easier to just keep throwing more money at the problem, and not demanding better results.
You must not think your children are worth it." May 16, 12 2:22 PM
It's called an "analogy".
Double standard doesn't believe you should question the amount of taxpayer dollars going towards teacher pay or you "have an irrational hatred towards teachers".
Education is no different from the the government buying any other good or service, therefore, what is so offensive about demanding value for the money? These are the highest paid public school teachers in the country, and yet the results achieved are middle of the pack. Do you consider that a good deal?
If you do, then you should have no issue with the government wasting your money elsewhere.

Other news sources have reported that he's an illegal immigrant.
It will cost millions to prosecute and incarcerate this killer, and yet bleeding heart pro-illegal immigration liberals have no problem with these resources being wasted on someone who shouldn't have been in the country to begin with.
No, they want to raise your taxes (you evil capitalists), but keep those borders wide open.
" May 17, 12 1:08 PM
First of all, I never mentioned any particular administration.
Secondly, my association of pro-illegal immigrant views with liberals is absolutely accurate.
Just who is pushing for government largesse for illegal immigrants? Which idealogical side wants blanket amnesty, taxpayer subsidized in state tuition rates, drivers licenses, and now, the right to practice law by people who have no legal right to be here?" May 17, 12 8:09 PM
Can't, or won't?
It's simple. You employ illegals you go to jail.
After a few years of that, any that haven't self-deported and are identified should be turned over to INS and sent back to their home countries.
Who knows, if those corrupt countries south of the border can no longer foist their poor onto the US, they might actually come under pressure to improve the living conditions for their own citizens." May 17, 12 8:12 PM
It's becuause of people like you who tolerate mass illegal immigration and the lawlessness it encourages that this woman is dead.
Your selfish desire to feel good about yourself contributed far more to this than any "bigotry" you'd like to project." May 17, 12 8:14 PM
You choose not to report immigration status, even when it's made available to you by authorities.
What are you trying to do? Mask the ever increasing problem of illegal immigrants committing crimes?
Are you blind to the epidemic of unlicensed, uninsured drivers on our roads? Are you oblivious to MS13 and it's affiliate, murderous gangs destroying neighborhoods to the west of us?
Where's your journalistic integrity?" May 17, 12 8:22 PM
Do you oppose taxpayer funded benefits going to illegal immigrants?" May 17, 12 8:36 PM
"As for issuing drivers' licenses,it would be a way to document and monitor immigrants thus being a way to know who is here.".
So after identifying an illegal immigrant (NOT "IMMIGRANT", as you like to conflate legal immigrants with illegal aliens) why not deport them?
Guess what, we have a way to track immigrants already, by way of legal immigration. There's a path to citizenship already, through the legal immigration process." May 17, 12 8:40 PM

Plenty of legal citizens run around atacking people with machete's on Long Island." May 17, 12 8:41 PM
Q: Does the IRS pay billions in tax refunds to workers who are in the U.S. illegally?
A: Yes. The Treasury Department’s Inspector General determined that $4.2 billion was paid in 2010, up from less than $1 billion in 2005. Leading Democrats are resisting a bill that would stop future payments.
" May 17, 12 8:45 PM
Give me a break. DO you think the guys being picked up at 7/11 are paying taxes?
No, they are simply filing returns for refundable tax credits.
Stop assuming people are idiots. You are transparent." May 17, 12 8:56 PM
Yes, I speculate that illegal immigrants working as cash day laborers don't pay taxes on their income.
Are you suggesting they may be paying taxes on that income?" May 17, 12 9:29 PM
This is an evil act of pure racism and hatred, right philathome?
How dare anyone expect that a single family home being rented to multiple families with lots of children be assessed taxes at a higher rate.
This is clearly an attack on hardworking immigrants who are entitled to government largesse at the expense of the other families in Springs.
Selfish and greedy Anglos are to blame for this outrage.
Si Se Pueda!" May 22, 12 6:21 PM
Only an idiot, devoid of critical thinking wouldn't despise a system that ranks 26th in the world for results, but ranks 1 in spending.
Tell me philathome, which country spends more per child, per year on education, than the US?
Yet, the fault lies everywhere but with the unionized, nearly impossible to fire, nearly impossible to evaluate teachers.
Our public education system is as efficient, and quality focused as GM employees were in the 1970's and 80's, and for exactly the same reasons. No accountability." May 22, 12 6:33 PM
