Southampton Village replaces Crown Victorias with Chargers

Courtesy: "Ford has annouced that they are planning on not making the crown vics anymore. Dodge has stepped up to the plate with the charger. Maybe if you all did a little research you would find that most police departments are moving over to the dodge chargers."

I DID do some research on this, and find that while the Dodge Charger is garnering more of the law enforcement patrol market, Ford is NOT dropping the Crown Vic.

"And FYI Frank, sitting inside the chargers actually is smaller and tighter than the crown vics."

If you're making a brief for switching out from the Crown Vics, I don't get it.

If all Southampton Village is getting is two years (as others have noted as well) out of a police patrol vehicle, then before new cars are acquired, the department should invest in some driver retraining." Sep 28, 09 1:21 PM

Attorney: Linda Kabot will be vindicated

It seems that you have issues with your local police department, Sam -- anything you need to share with us?

But what sort of directions do YOU need to ask in Westhampton Beach? I'm not even from there, and I figured my way around a long time ago." Sep 28, 09 2:38 PM

East Hampton couple returns woman's missing wallet ... and $2,400

Okay, as I noted in a Comment to the original story, the return of the wallet and its contents would be the story, and now that it's actually happened, all we get is a "tease" of a story to be told in this coming edition??

Has The Press management been retinking its entire internet strategy?" Sep 28, 09 5:15 PM

Residents outraged over proposed windmill plan

There's something V-E-R-Y wrong here when a group of neighbors are out to drive a stake in the heart of this guy's ecologically and environmentally sound alternative energy plan for the flimsiest of reasons!

A neighbor is worried about upsetting some birds?!?

I think Dom Seddio's strategy should be to offer any surplus energy he realizes from his windmill project to the neighbors at below-LIPA rates. (Otherwise, by law, LIPA would have to purchase it from Seddio!) That way his neighbors might come around very quickly.

I'd love to have a working windmill in my neighborhood!

Former Southampton Village Police officer's lawsuit against village dismissed

Without proper context, RonDo, your recitation of the above is meaningless -- I'm sure it have meaning for you, but what does it have to do with Brian Platt's case?" Sep 30, 09 9:46 AM

Linda Kabot's DWI case expected to be moved to Riverhead Town Court

"The Press has filed a Freedom of Information Act request for a copy of the arrest video with the Westhampton Village Police Department and Suffolk County District Attorney Tom Spota’s office. Both requests were denied."

This continues to be shameful grandstanding for the readership. Mr. Shaw. The Press has no right to such EVIDENCE before a trial, and you know it, so stop puffing up your First Amendment rights.

They exist, but not in this instance.

"One more point-last glass of wine at 9:15pm and arrested around midnight. That's a few missing hours unaccounted for."

That's just idiotic! Is it beyond your comprehension that someone can socialize for three hours without drinking an alcoholic beverage?" Oct 1, 09 1:53 AM

Former Amagansett doctor sentenced to three years in prison

"What would happen were we to allow recreational users of narcotics to buy drugs at will?"

Admirably Libertarian, HHS -- but in this instance, dangerously unrealistic. With the imposition of enormous costs on the healthcare system (never mind the criminal justice system which would not derive that much benefit from de-criminalization of "recreational drugs") due to substance abuse, your policy would further bankrupt the country. Additionally, the moral deterioration would be incalculable.

Club members offer $1 million for Oddone bail; trial nears start

What so many of the pseudonymous responders here are ignoring is that, as unsavory a character as Mr. Oddone appears to be, and as terrible is the act as he is accused of committing, he still deserves a defense.

I haven't seen anyone here who actually knows the accused, make any comment, just a number of website visitors beating their chests and forming a cyber-mob calling for Oddone's head on a pike.

This is still the American Criminal Justice System, and if some people who actually DO know the defendant, wish to fund something beyond a court-appointed legal defense, why would you condemn them?

Have any of you actually thought about what you are saying here? Some of you are coming off like punks, secure behind the anonymity of your nicknames.

Cut it out. Stop the posturing, and let the process take its course." Oct 2, 09 9:24 AM

Southampton Town deputy supervisor confronts, shoves PBA president over comments about budget

Actor Gary Cooper's wife, a Southampton gal, was named "Rocky." That's a silly point to attempt to make." Oct 3, 09 12:24 PM

Yes, Mr Aube certainly should accept some layoffs within the WELL-paid police department. He's essentially a union representative whose sole purpose is to further the interests of that union.

And public posturing is always part of that representation.

What it comes down to after all the "He said/I was there" stuff, is should the Southampton Town Police Department be exempt from the economic hardships the rest of us are having to deal with?" Oct 3, 09 12:36 PM

Westhampton Beach Police remain mum on ongoing internal investigation of incident

On what basis are you asserting that this involves "an 'incident'" rather than one or more personnel? I just re-read the article, and I don't see anything definitively indicating one or the other. Or do you have special knowledge?

Is that Tucker guy hoping to help Linda Kabot by coming out with this now? As Noaj Way picked up on right away, old Bill Keahon must think Christas came early this year! " Oct 3, 09 5:12 PM

Southampton Town deputy supervisor confronts, shoves PBA president over comments about budget

Speak for yourself! It's a schlepp from the Northwest end of Town to Soutampton Village, and I find the Annex in Hampton Bays very useful -- and resdeint-friendly." Oct 3, 09 5:18 PM

Westhampton Beach Police remain mum on ongoing internal investigation of incident

Well, so what if it is? WHB PD isn't doing the investigation, Suffolk County PD Internal Affairs is doing it, and why would they be telling "T.J." anything about their investigations?

And it "T.J." is the "Speer" as you say, isn't he the same police officer who the Beach blogger exposed for being sound asleep in the middle of the morning on Dune Road while on duty a year ago?!?" Oct 4, 09 1:47 AM

Thiele leaves Republicans, joins Independence Party

For you to term the charge "a total fabrication," Fidelis, is more dishonest than the way you are suggesting that the original question way posed.

Alex Gregor's poor work ethic (I'm being polite here) with the Highway Department is a matter of record, and far from "the myth" you are attempting to portray it as.

Look, Mr. Gregor is a very personable fellow, but look at his track record -- and better yet, talk to anyone who was on the Highway job at the same (short) time he was. He wants a job on the public teet -- it's a family trait." Oct 4, 09 11:59 AM

Thank you for openly articulating exactly what the local Democrats are all about, fcmcmann. You've got George Guldi and his many indictments, "No-Show" Alex Gregor who'll run for any public office he can get enough signatures for (better he had some actual experience to qualify for one of those jobs), and what looks to be the entire East Hampton Town Democratic apparat.

Are these really the people you embrace? Do you really mean "anyone?"

I remember a time no so long ago when -- especially to the west of us -- it was always the Republicans who were under indictment.

Is it any wonder that more and more people are abandoning their major party registrations and going independent, Independence and Integrity?" Oct 4, 09 12:13 PM

Club members offer $1 million for Oddone bail; trial nears start

Yes, hopefully he WILL get what he deserves. Step one is that he's getting a defense funded by some people who DO know him.

There willl be a trial, and a jury of his peers will determine what he "deserves," not a bunch of anonymous poseurs without most of the facts.

Let me ask you, Razza5350, would you care to be "judged" by a group of people who only know what a newspaper has reported?" Oct 4, 09 12:28 PM

Westhampton Beach Police remain mum on ongoing internal investigation of incident

Glad you highlighted that paragraph, Publius. It seems to undercut Trustee Tucker's contention that it was he, not Chief Dean, who started the process. If it was a member of the Village Board, then the SCPD report would be going directly to them, not the Chief, and they wouldn't have to ask for it, now, would they?

" Oct 5, 09 9:41 AM

Gee, concerned citizen, how 'bout you first?

Sauce for the goose, doncha know?!" Oct 5, 09 7:30 PM

PUBLIUS: "Chief Dean needs to make peace with the Trustees, it is evident that the old ways of doing things (or more accurately NOT doing things) will no longer be acceptable."

Several months back the Beach blogger outed you as a local "gadfly" named Palmer, and one who is fully in the Village Board's pocket, so everything you post here should be assessed with that in mind. You have become the "Baghdad Bob" of Westhampton.

I had gotten the impression that you'd been around Westhampton Beach for a number of years, but for you to spout off about "the old ways" reveals you to be either a liar or a dupe! Which is it?

Shane Daniels beaten near half-to-death was "the old ways" -- on-duty cops shacking up with their gal pals was "the old ways" -- cops forcing themselves sexually on young women was the old ways -- cops working a second job while on duty was "the old ways."

From the looks of it, Chief Dean is doing the very job he is being paid to do, so instead of making peace with the Trustees, the Trustees need to get out of the way and let him administer his Department." Oct 6, 09 12:28 AM

It's not too soon at all -- read Trustee Tucker's own statements, and watch the videotape of the meeting. Or don't, and shut up.

Your collective comments on this matter reveal that you HAVE already determined "who is right and who is wrong," sir, so stop the crud.

In answer to the question posed, if the SCPD report is being delivered to the Chief, then it's obvious that the Chief is the one who initiated the investigation, and that would make Trustee Tucker a liar. (And, having watched the video of that meeting, it makes Trustee Joan Levan a liar as well.)

It's silly on their part to lie about it like that. Is it part of their contention that Chief Dean is not only overpaid, but is not competent to to the job?

Publius or Palmer, I don't care -- you've become a windbag on this subject, and as an apologist for the Trustees, less then credible. You truly are the Baghdad Bob of Westhampton with your attempts at "spin." For you to work this hard and this persistently at it, must mean that you are aware of just how badly your Trustee cohorts are coming off in this matter.

If they'd just shut up and not lied, there would have been no issue.

" Oct 6, 09 8:21 PM

Publius/Palmer - you really are a gas bag, aren't you? You're going down for the count on the internal affairs matter, so now you're scrambling back to the comp time issue of last Spring, and don't look now, but that's a loser, too.

Elsewhere I spoke to your lack of credibility. Here you prove the accusation by stating "The Chief is just trying to keep a lid on it, but not correcting root causes." Again, I ask you, are you a liar, or just uninformed? The Beach blogger seems to have documented that he fired one of the worst officers and forced another one into early retirement -- and that's probably the cause of the friction with the Trustees now, since that "old ways" cop, as you allude to, is now on the Village Board! (Can that really be the best Westhampton has to offer???)

"Lets keep it civil?" How about let's keep it truthful.
" Oct 6, 09 8:43 PM

Gas bag! What do you call going to SCPD for an internal investigation if not "addressing the issue."

You're incredible in the truest sense of the word, in the same way that Baghdad Bob was incredible! I don't understand what horse you have in this race?

Oh, and mine? Truth, Justice and what used to be the American Way.. " Oct 6, 09 8:48 PM

Kabot DWI case moved to Riverhead Town Justice Court

This is an invention -- a lengthy and detailed one -- of a very disturbed mind." Oct 6, 09 8:55 PM

Yet another extraordinary invention, but even less credible that the one by HighHatsize!

Here's where your fanciful scenario falls apart:

"There was only one snag: Kabot was in Westhampton, out the jurisdiction of Town Police."

In order to get from her sister's pace in the Moriches to her home in Quogue, the Supervisor had to twice enter Southampton Town PD jurisdiction: from Brookhaven Town to Westhampton Beach, and again from Westhampton Beach a short way into Quogue Village.

Oh, and the last time I looked, duly sworn police officers have arrest powers throughout the state if they see a crime being committed -- and DWI is a crime!" Oct 6, 09 9:03 PM

What a bunch of knee-jerk bunny-huggers!

I'm not much into the blood sports but in various areas of this Town -- including mine -- it's become an "them vs. us" situation.

Or perhaps DagDavid, PBR. HighHatSize et al, in the alternative, would support the release of some natural predators (cougars and wolves) into the affflicated areas of Shelter Island, Sag Harbor/North Haven, Southampton Village. Quogue, Westhampton Beach and Wildwood Lake!" Oct 11, 09 12:39 AM
