Trespassing charges dropped against East Quogue woman arrested near ANG base; wrongful arrest lawsuits filed

Yearrounder: "This woman was carrying around an armory in her car."

A rifle and 500 rounds do not an "armory" make. That's just over-the-top silly.

I have not changed the discussion -- or anyone's mind, it seems -- a whit. For those who can actually read, there was no "personal attack," but an attack against the "drivel" which PF posts here.

If you don't understand the difference, then that's probably why you hear of someone with a semi-automatic rifle and 500 rounds of ammunition, and attempt to portray it as "an armory."

That too is drivel, as is your assertion that her Constitutional protections would be dependent on the color of her skin or her ethnicity. Bush and Chaney might have thought as you do, but I do not, and I doubt that the majority of those here you attempt to paint with that brush, do either.

Please, more reason and less hysteria." Nov 20, 09 4:58 PM

YR: "She could have started a war with what was in that car!"

Don't you think, upon more rational reflection, it would have been a short war with only 500 rounds on hand?

You really need to calm down." Nov 20, 09 5:02 PM

PM: "In NYS you can't legally own a true assault rifle......"

"A true assault rifle" has been heavily restricted since 1934, and illegal in NYS for ever longer. And civilians have not been permitted to own a new one since 1986

People blithering about "assault rifles" and "assault weapons" have very little idea what they are talking about. Many of them are functionally no different than some of the rifles (and shotguns) which people LEGALLY hunt with on a daily basis during season.
" Nov 20, 09 5:08 PM

Thank YOU! Something rational.

And despite an earlier Commenter's assertion of her belief about the Second Amendment only pertaining to a militia, the Supreme Court decided that one last year: the Second Amendment, as with every other amendment to the Constitution, is an INDIVIDUAL right, not a collective one!

Judge dismisses juror in Oddone trial

Well, you DO understand that Newsday and News 12 are in common ownership, don't you?

They cater their coverage to those who live in Western Suffolk and Nassau, and they don't cover anything on the East End unless it will titillate their primary readership." Nov 20, 09 5:25 PM

fcmcmann: "Your devotion to murder weapons"

You are nothing less than hysterical, and out of control. Try posting something rational for a change.

Wanna take that as a "personally attack?" Fine! You're the one making these overly emotional comments that have no basis in reason. I think you're one of the ones the Beach Blogger referred to as a "pants-wetter" yesterday. " Nov 21, 09 1:18 AM

Prosecution rests, defense case opens in Oddone trial

Golly, that first sentence WAS garbled, AnonymousSgh; it should have read: "I think the sole issue at trial is whether a case has been made for Oddone 'intentionally' killing the decedent." I'm not sure how that happened, but thank you for recognizing it for what was intended.

In response to your question, I'm not sure why you would think I was "pro-Oddone." I'm not!

I'd like to see justice done here, and not the type of storm-the-jail, death-by-evisceration "justice" some of the anonymous posters with no control of their emotions have been calling for over the past year or so.

Figure out what happened, charge appropriately, and present a good case. My lay opinion is that "intentional" isn't part of it.

As for the tired directive, "get a life," I submit that no one who makes regular comments on this or any other website, can lay claim to any sort of superior "life," so it's probably not a good idea to speak in such vapid clich├ęs.

I hope this clarifies my prior Comment for you, Maryb123. Regret that you felt it was "extremely evil" (atrocious). " Nov 21, 09 8:50 AM

Do some here actually feel they have some special knowledge of, or proprietary interest in, this trail?

Sure sounds like it, so if anyone has any special qualifications, please be sure to post them in your next comment.

I think I have a stalker, an inverted passion at work.

OK, fcmcmann, you want something personal? How 'bout: you're a nitwit!

This topic is about the Southampton Town budget. What did you have to add to that?

My comment which sent you into a tizzy, pertained to the lunatic suggestion by Blue Sky that Anna Throne-Holst's failure to reduce the police part of the budget was a quid pro quo for the arrest (in an entirely unrelated jurisdiction) of Linda Kabot.

Isn't it interesting that you are the only one where so far who has had to have that explained to her!

That fourth Justice, a Pat Heaney deal, was added for the sole purpose of giving former Town Justice Ed Burke a soft place to land because the Spitzer Administration wasn't going to reappoint him to the NY State Court of Claims where he had been a Pataki appointment.

The $68k job didn't seem significant at the time -- now it's very definitely a place where some money could be saved!" Nov 22, 09 12:57 PM

I see no "hatred towards{sic} the police department" on the part of HHS, only a strong criticism of a particular action done under color of authority -- and it has been shown by Ms. Genovese's dismissal, an abuse of that authority.

Your problem, PF, is the irrationality of your arguments, based on your emotions as so many of them are.

For instance, you speak repeatedly of "semi-automatic assault rifles and 500 rounds of ammunition." The woman has stated that the number was "160," and since she was on her way home from the range, this seems credible.

And not only do you reference a non-existent firearm ("semi-automatic assault rifle" -- look it up!) but you do so in the plural despite all reports that she had a single rifle.

But it's clear that you don't care about facts, only about emotion and raising alarms,

You, PF, are a hysteric -- the Beach Blogger refers to you as a "pants-wetter," and it fits.

So -- if you can muster it up for a change -- more reason and less emotion.

Kabot attorney will represent two suspended Westhampton Beach Police officers

Publius often has no idea what he's talking about, but that has never stopped him from lengthy comments in service to his friends on the village board, and attacks upon the Police Chief.

Read the above -- no accusations, nothing solid, but a recitation of unsubstantiated allegations." Nov 23, 09 11:02 AM

Golly, again! No response to any of the substantive points I raised, only your tired old ad hominem "right-wing" accusations -- which of course has nothing to do with anything I addressed.

The "pants-wetters" was a quote, but it still applies -- you seem unable to control yourself.

Your point of view is one thing, your erroneous statement of facts are another. But as I've already pointed out, you seem to care nothing for the facts.

And I see you have your own little claque forming, other like-minded non-rational commenters. Good, you need all the mutual support you can muster.

And, "gee," yourself, YR, what do you fantasize I might find "a little sensitive?" Or is a non sequitur what passes for meaningful discourse with you?

" Nov 23, 09 3:26 PM

You first, YR." Nov 23, 09 3:27 PM

Since you had introduced the subject, I figured you already knew most of that. I was just filling in the number and the proper noun.

Don't look for the Town Board to reverse this... Eddie Burke is a popular guy, and the family has clout.

But if you look at that deal, when they four Town Justice position was created, it not only added another $68k + the cost of benefits to the Justice Court budget, it also provided the three existing Justices -- then Wilson, DeMayo and Kooperstein -- with a 33% raise in salary, reducing their hours/work load and keeping their pay the same.

But no one said anything at the time, of course." Nov 23, 09 11:27 PM

Again, I note that you have failed to respond to any of the substantive points previously raised, instead returning only to blather." Nov 23, 09 11:33 PM

Kabot's day in court is delayed a second time

This is just another in a string of things you "do not understand," SJD -- her driver's license was restored as part of an appeals process as provided for by law.

You -- even YOU -- would be accorded the same (not so) "special treatment" if you were in the system as Ms. Kabot is.

But since you no clue about the law, the assumption might be made that you manage to keep your nose clean and the key away from the ignition when you've been drinking. Good for you." Nov 25, 09 11:26 AM

Oddone trial nears conclusion; defense witness challenged

As I stated (as a lay person) from the start, the prosecution over-reached in the indictment with "intentional." It's clear -- I'll even risk using the word "apparent" and opening myself up to an ad hominem attack by maryb123 -- has not met the standard to sustain such a charge.

And HB4Life may not "need an NYU Law Degree," but some knowledge of the law might be a good idea.

Oddone doesn't escape a conviction, but it won't be for Murder 2.

Hmmmmn... that seem to have been garbled, as I apparently keyed in some secret code which deleted the main text of my response. I'll try again.

>> How do you know he has "no clue"?

That would be self-evident if you read SJD's comments half as closely as you do mine.

Only you, Publius! Only you.

Are you preparing to charge the jury?" Nov 27, 09 4:54 PM

How eloquent you are this afternoon, Madame -- yes, judgement day IS coming, and Mr Oddone will soon know the measure of justice.

But it won't be for "Murder" no matter long you hold your breath and get red in the face. That charge -- the "intentionl" part -- simply isn't there." Nov 28, 09 1:49 PM

Not a lot of thought and reason going on in this Comment thread -- it's all emotion.
