Gasoline prices are still inflated here, despite new law

Let's get this straight we get study after study looking into zone pricing...maybe 5 - 7 years worth. And now we are told oh by the way our local politicians came up a little short!!! Give us a break. how could they not have known about this before drafting legislation. I f every business operated like this a hot dog would cost $17.50 in montauk!" Dec 10, 08 4:28 PM

number one a boycott isn't going to help you if you live in east hampton. Secondly, theile was on the radio the other day stating that the law as written DOES NOT apply to 95% of all gas stations on the sofo!!! That's my point....they have been looking into to this for at least 5 years and maybe longer!!!!!! You can see how gov't works here. They studied the problem and then drafted legislation that DOES NOT solve the problem. " Dec 17, 08 4:35 PM

Calvin Klein plans to tear down controversial house

Curt Highsmith is delusional, when he says the "final decision are made according to village code" there are numerous examples of crap houses that don't fit the venacular of the village that his board has agreed with. Most boards accross the state have an advisor ( who is usually an architect, historian or both) to advise the (lay) people onthe board as to the appropriateness of individual projects based upon a professinal objective opinion. I n So Village we have Curtiss, an engineer, and a sprinkling of members who frequently have No Opinion regarding individual projects. Pink Houses, "Whimsical houses", Strange architectual features, inadequate protection of neighbors privacy......you guys rock! " Dec 17, 08 4:48 PM

Let's See.....We are in the deepest hole in decades, school's are crumbling, tax base is vanishing, open space is disappearing, no viable place for middle class to live, no policy on illegal aliens invading the town, energy policy that's in chaos...and Ms Pope has put all of her energy since election day into.....what!!!!????

New blog targets architecture in Southampton Village

To SnobBlog,
Your right, Sally's blog is her own opinion and that is all. She has never proclaimed otherwise, and your opinions may differ and that is perfectly acceptable. Dialog can be very productive. You may believe she is a snob, but if you actually gathered factual information or knew her, you would know otherwise. As for your chuckle and attempt at intimidation, I am glad those of and around the ARB are laughing - that's better than seething as Sally may not be their favorite person - nor yours it seems. But I wonder whether they were laughing with you or for you. Anyway, I think the blog is very helpful to our community whether her opinions are shared or not. " Jan 11, 09 12:19 PM

Agents try auctions to move property

just another gimmick in a long list of gimmicks to try to move overpriced units. agree with Hej........if you can't hack the carrying costs anymore list it at the reserve and see what happens. the truth is the agent gets a boatload of press and if it doesn't sell he can blame the economy, the property owner, the weather, etc. It's all about getting your "team's" name in the paper" Feb 2, 09 11:27 AM

Agents try auctions to move property

Shop for homes on eBay

A group of Elliman brokers are now listing two apartments on eBay. The first is a two-bedroom co-op in the East Village, at 327 East 3rd Street, with a listed eBay bid of $350,000. The unit is listed for $425,000 on Elliman's Web site. The second unit is a one-bedroom co-op in Hell's Kitchen, at 438 West 49th Street, with a starting eBay bid of $325,000 and an asking price of $365,000 on Elliman's site. This is not the first time brokers have attempted to sell Manhattan real estate on eBay -- a studio apartment in Lower Manhattan was listed on the auction site for $529,000 in October and failed to sell.

Developers will tweak plans for Canoe Place Inn

everyone who has a plan for someone else's property please list your credit card number and expiration date. We will nedd you all to "chip in" for the $6 million price tag. Get over it, the building is not the same as the canoe place inn of yesteryear. Remember all the naysayers about the king kullen shopping center.....10 years for Dr. Ariola to get a supermarket built???? There is nothing wrong with progress and quite frankly we hold the cards as to the way a project will ultimately look. The Stop & Shop is pleasing in that it is set off the highway. Additionally the design of the exterior is alot better than it could have been. So what's is the problem and why did that take 10 years????

Let the rechlers get rid of an eyesore, create a much higher tax ratable and hopefully build something that could be an anchor at that end of town, but make the design count! No impact on the school population, construction jobs, service jobs and more property tax. No one is going to be able to live here if there are no jobs to be had so lets think about smart growth and making the developers come up with designs that add to our community instead of the typical knee-jerk NO!" May 12, 09 7:59 PM

if you know anything about contruction and renovation, new construction is less expensive than renovation overall. Imagine rewiring, re-insulating, pouring new footings, trying to retro-fit for modern hvac, in addition to the energy efficiency of modern building products. They may be building a catering hall but it will also be a 60 unit residential project. The diference is they may chose not to do it! Surely the new building would be rated alot higher in value for tax purposes. They are not proposing condo's. At what cost should we have something unique and unusable to hampton bays. Imagine what a spur this would be to delapidated properties at this end of town or should we preserve those too? why would anyone even bring up "southampton" or "easthampton"? we are not easthampton so get over it. What exactly are you trying to preserve? " May 12, 09 11:44 PM

Two critically injured in accident on CR39 Monday morning

The town needs to start regulating the cab biz. The drivers themselves seem to make up the fares based on the time of night and the sobriety of the clients they serve. It's true that the taxi was hit by a drunk driver but it's clear there is blame on both drivers. Enterring 7-11 from 39 is permitted only if you are heading east. The cab driver in his haste put the customers saftey second. It's true that the drunk driver could have clipped the taxi had he been merely stopped at a red light. The point is the taxi biz is like the wild west out here in the summer. How many unmarked vehicles are picking up fares at the clubs? Why are the rates different in every cab? Are there any qualifications to be a cab driver??" May 26, 09 11:11 AM
