Suffolk County consumes record amount of water on Friday, Southampton estates lead the way

I drove past the Remsenburg elementary school yesterday and to my surprise all the sprinklers were on. I have no issues with people watering their lawns, but doing so in the middle of a storm seems a bit excessive! Nobody seems to be complaining about the huge tax base all year round residents benefit from due to the summer residents who use few, if any, of the town or village services. If they want to water their lawns, let them. Maybe we should start with waste that the taxpayers have control over and move on from there." Jul 24, 10 6:46 AM

Officer makes charges of favoritism in Westhampton Beach PBA

"I don't have money to hire a lawyer" ??? What's his salary? I'd imagine he makes about $100,000 per annum." Jul 24, 10 7:01 AM

Westhampton Beach police hearings to begin next month

There are some issues that should cross party lines. These seem to be fairly serious charges (missing handguns and lying to internal affiars) - yet not everyone seems interested in investigating what occurred or why testimony given to SCPD IAB was deemed untrue. If the village has to spend taxpayer dollars to find the truth, so be it. This village has become the joke of the east end, and a good deal of Suffolk per some SCPD officers. Regardless of your political affiliations let's try to find the truth underneath this web of cover ups." Jul 24, 10 10:03 PM

East Hampton Village to put restrictions on landscaping equipment

Essentially reducing a business day by 1/3 will lead to higher prices and more diesel trucks towing huge trailers. Companies will either add more crews to manage their existing accounts, or drop accounts that will be picked up by newly started companies. 7am is early, 8am is reasonable. I'd much rather have people mowing at 8am then to have one more truck on the road x however many landscape companies there are out there. Why does it seem that it's always so hard to find a happy medium nowadays? For once can we let common sense prevail?" Aug 12, 10 7:08 AM

Southampton Town supervisor floats cop consolidation plan

East end cops make huge money - no question. It also costs cops huge money to live here - also no question. Why limit this consolidation to police? Let's consolidate the fire departments and ambulances too - there are too many voters, I mean volunteers, for that to happen. What is the annual budget for a fire department on the east end? How many real structure fires are there annually? Does every department need a ladder truck and 2-10 engines? Isn't it cheaper to share resources than to continuously purchase gold leaf encrusted, shiny new equipment every 10 years? How much money is spent in fuel & insurance for a fire chief to drive one of the districts (2,3,4?) chief cars to a job out of his district that he cant leave during the middle of a workday anyway? I'm not in any way suggesting closing firehouses or making changes that would affect public safety, but how long does it take for a ladder truck to make it from Quogue to East Quogue, or WHB to Eastport? There are hundreds of ways to save money in SHT/EHT without sacrificing our safety or quality of life. It's a shame that nobody will consider them as they are too politically sensitive..." Westhampton Beach Eruv Proposal Moves Forward

I'm still trying to understand this. There is clearly a great divide on this issue. It seems to be primarily based on 1st Amendment and the "Pandora's Box" effect. I have a few questions... Don't most rabbinical authorities allow use of wheelchairs and canes on the Sabbath? If so I'm not sure where the need lies, other than being able to push a stroller or carry keys or a book. Do WHB & LIPA allow signs and other "non-religious" markings on utility poles (either expressly or by turning a blind eye)? Does WHB have a general ordinance related to the hanging of signs, etc.? Final question, and please take this only as a factual question: What happens if WHB passes a law banning all signs (religious and non-religious)?" Nov 1, 10 8:34 AM

Attorney Warns Quogue Village Not To Reject Eruv Application

So the same village that won't allow realtors to place temporary for sale signs curbside is considering allowing another group to permanently attach markers to telephone poles??" Mar 20, 12 10:26 AM

Southampton Town PBA Officer Receives Anonymous Threats

Investigation by an outside agency? How did that work out with WHB PD? The findings of any investigation will be discounted by the town board anyway." Apr 12, 12 8:02 AM
