Hampton Bays woman drowns in pool during party

People, this is a tragic story and you are posting sarcastic remarks. Somebody lost a life. Please think before you post. There's a grieving family that may or may not see this. It is all very sad." Aug 14, 10 1:32 PM

East Quogue community notes, October 7

Jo Ann will be deeply missed. She cared very much for East Quogue and the people who live here. I don't think Main street will ever be the same. " Oct 7, 10 4:43 PM

Holidays Are Especially Difficult For Homeless

This mother may have been irresponsible for many of the reasons in previous comments. However these three children have done nothing to deserve any of this. These children are innocent victims. I don't like my taxes being used as handouts. But if society has to step in and help, so be it. These children need the basics of necessities, number 1 being shelter. Hopefully they will get the education and guidance they need to become self reliant, with a decent future. Perhaps someday they will return the favor to someone else in need. " Dec 31, 10 8:17 AM

Police Still Searching For Burglars Who Forced Their Way Into Eastport Home

I think the authorities release certain info but not all. This way when they are questioning potential suspects, the suspect may reveal facts that were never made public and incriminate him or herself.
But I can't see this as a random break in. If burglars are going to start targeting this type of neighborhood. Then a lot more of us should start questioning our safety and vulnerability. There are many vacant homes in much nicer areas that would make a better target.
I think these folks had some shady dealings in the past with these intruders and it came back to haunt them," Jan 13, 11 4:39 PM

Group Pushing For Religious Boundary Files Suit Against Southampton Town, Westhampton Beach And Quogue

If you want to carry or push something to your place of worship? Then carry or push it.
You need symbolic Boundaries? Put them on a map and learn how to read one.
I hope a young teenager doesn't find one of these an attractive nuisance and perhaps damages one. Will he be tried for a hate crime?
And whats next? Demanding businesses to shut down certain days if they fall within these boundaries?
As a non orthodox taxpayer, the only religious boundary that anyone has to observe is the actual parcel of property your house of religion sits on. I'm sure there is a survey of it. Now leave the rest of us alone please.

Rechlers Say Southampton Town Board Supports Plan For Canoe Place Inn

40 condos would probably mean a minimum of 80 people. Everyone one of them will be flushing a toilet several times a day. Not to mention the other things that go along with day to day life, such as washing laundry, or maintaining lush landscaping with fertilizers etc. I thought we had zoning laws to prevent this potential environmental disaster from happening. Once its gone its gone forever. " Jan 24, 11 2:22 PM

Attorney Asks For $70 Million Judgment Against Southampton Town

Maybe she was taking pictures of an obsolete helicopter. Or she could have been taking pictures of the entrance to a military base. Recording the comings and goings of personel or anything else that could have been benificial to a homegrown terrorist. They rightfully detained her and felt they needed to investigate further. Thank God it wasn't ignored. Never forget 9/11. Never forget" Feb 9, 11 4:53 PM

East Hampton Town Investigates Illegal Clearing In Springs Nature Preserve

If its wet lands, the DEC is also going to get involved. A homeowner in my neighborhood had to replant everything that they took out. The DEC supervised the whole replanting. There were many many items that were replanted, half of them I don't think were there to begin with, but the DEC forced them to do it. It was 10's of thousands of dollars. And if anything planted dies, these people are responsible to replace it for the next ten years until it is well established. And I don't feel sorry for them at all" Feb 28, 11 1:37 PM

Developers Submit New Canoe Place Inn Application

Why would anyone allow 40 condos to be built on the edge of the canal? Thats a lot of people. these people need to flush toilets, wash laundry, have their beautiful grounds maintained with fertilizers.
This is all on the edge of the canal?
This is going to bring an improved quality of life?
This is an environmental disaster in the making. This town board is contributing to the destruction of our quality of life. Allowing bigger and bigger projects to be built on smaller and smaller pieces of property. Its shameful
Once its gone its gone, it can't be reversed.

If someone was putting in an application for building a new marina, I would not be happy either. This article is not about existing marinas and what they are doing to our waterways. " Mar 16, 11 2:28 PM

Comedy Central Airs Parody About Proposed Eruv In Westhampton Beach

Why is it, that if a segment of society doesn't get their way, they start throwing around the racist card?" Mar 26, 11 10:28 AM

We don't need Eruv symbols on telephone poles
We don't need catholic rosaries on the poles either
Please don't allow the Methodist church to hang their symbols up.
No Muslim, Protestant, Shinto, or anything else.

$43 Million Tear-Down Approved In Sagaponack

Be thankful a local builder won the contract. Not some out of towner. We need the jobs. I am sure that most of the doors, windows, plumbing, lighting, etc. will be donated to some sort of charity. He may get tax write offs but people may benefit from it.
This project will employ so many people it is staggering. Not just locally, but across the nation. furniture, carpeting, cabinetry, trees and shrubs. it really goes on and on. These types of homes are not built with cheap imports from the home depot
" Apr 28, 11 1:17 PM

The big ticket items for your $430,000 homes will all be manufactured over seas doing nothing for the overall economy of the USA
Your 100 $430,000 homes will be putting hundreds of kids into the local school district, increasing everyone's property taxes.

State Closes Shellfishing In Western Shinnecock Bay After Toxin Is Detected

Don't forget lawn chemicals. Nobody uses native plantings with these waterfront estates. There is sod and ornamental plantings covering very sandy soil. Requiring tons of fertilization. High nitrogen keeps your grass green. " May 16, 11 3:50 PM

Westhampton Beach Shop Owner Working To Save Fountain

This village is lucky to have such a nice store. One of the few that has managed to keep open year after year. Now all of a sudden a fountain that has been there for 19 years is a problem? What kind of joke is this?
It sounds like the people in Village Hall are inventing things to justify their existence.
If they tried to encourage business instead of harassing it, maybe the place wouldn't be such a ghost town in the winter. When I was young, Main Street thrived year round. Now in the winter, there's little more than a handful of real estate stores offering the same properties.
Between high rents and a village that pulls garbage like this, why would anybody want to try and make a go of it? Its a shame " Jun 6, 11 9:14 AM

East Quogue Couple Fears That Twice-Convicted DWI Driver Won't Face Jail Time

I would never condone drinking and driving. And thank God this isn't more awful than it could have been.
Let the courts handle it. Not the press.
I don't see how a judge could possibly let this get by with such a minimal sentence after reading this article. Which leads me to believe that there is more to this story.

Developers Ready To Submit Application For Canoe Place Inn Project

40 townhomes on top of the shinnecock canal. Sickening. " Oct 14, 11 7:58 AM

Put the condos at the Canoe Place Inn please. I can't believe you would want the canal to be residentially privatized with condos.
You have been here for 22 years? I have been here for 50 and this town keeps taking away what made it a desirable place to live. The canal property was zoned waterfront resort business, meaning for business that the public can enjoy on the water. Once its gone it will be gone forever. Its a crying shame that this town board can take zoning laws and change them to suit their moods when they want to. This should have had a referendum to put it on a ballot in November and let the actual public rule. " Oct 17, 11 8:04 AM

Southampton Town Leaf Pickup Program May Strain Waste Management Department

The leaf program never worked fine. its allways been piles of leaves rotting for months all over the place. East Quogue has allways been one of the last for service. if it gets finished befor the snow great, if not its a nasty mess til the spring.
Self haul will require ne extra man hours. I have self hauled for years. I don't want to look at it in front of my house. You pull up at the place. Somebody gets up off his butt and says put the leaves over there. Then he returns to his chair while you, the self hauler, manually dumps them in a pile with out the assuistance of the emplyee on duty.Eventually when they get around to it a machine comes around and moves the pile of leaves around.Belive me, the town employees are not stressed out over this. its been going on for years. The only thing changing for the town is how the leaves make it to their final destination, not the man hours.
Maybe the highway department will save some overtime with this. Think about it people. Try to be a part of the solution. " Oct 22, 11 12:53 PM

Windsurfer Rescued By Bay Constables In Peconic Bay Says Equipment Failed

You people love to find something to fault in every article published. You know what happened here? Somebody needed help and trained professionals went and rescued him. The volunteers did a tremendous job.
This man never would have gone out if he thought he couldn't handle the conditions. Give him a break, and while your at it why don't you bunch of negative whiners give us all a break.
Please try to look at the brighter side here. A human being needed help and the system worked Thankfully there was no tragedy. And if you ever find yourself in need, its nice to know that these same volunteers will do their very best to help you for whatever reason you got into your particular situation.
